Puerto Rico--El Yunque Rainforest & Luquillo Beach
A busy day awaits us in El Yunque, where we hiked on trails through this beautiful, lush and tropical rainforest of Puerto Rico. We climbed up the Mount Britton and Yokahu Observation Towers, and visited the breathtaking waterfalls of La Mina, Juan Diego and La Coca Falls. We ended our busy day at Luquillo Beach where we could soak up some sun, swim and just relax.
Puerto Rican STREET FOOD at Kiosko Luquillo + El Yunque Rainforest | Luquillo, Puerto Rico
On my third day in San Juan, Puerto Rico in partnership with the Intercontinental San Juan, I headed to explore the El Yunque Rainforest and to eat Puerto Rican street food at Kiosko Luquillo!

We started the day by driving 45 minutes east to visit the El Yunque Rainforest. We saw the Coca Waterfall, Yokahu Tower and the Damas Pool. Each one gives you a completely different experience that are well worth it. If you see a coconut vender, definitely stop and have some coconuts in El Yunque Rainforest!
Next we drove down to the town of Luquillo and visited the Kiosko Luquillo which is a strip of small restaurants next to Luquillo beach, one of the prettiest beaches in Puerto Rico.
We tried a bunch of Puerto Rican street food, like Alcapurrias, Coconut Candy, Blue Crab Empanada, Rellenos de Papa, Carrucho Ceviche and we finished the day off with a 32 oz mojito!
My personal favorite was the Carrucho Ceviche, it was super refreshing and way less filling compared to all the fried foods. I recommend you try all these Puerto Rican street foods and visit El Yunque rainforest when you visit Puerto Rico!
Big thanks to my friends at the Intercontinental San Juan:

El Yunque Rainforest Tour, Puerto Rico
Holly Firfer takes us on an off-the-beaten-path tour of El Yunque Rainforest in Puerto Rico.
Driving in Puerto Rico from Fajardo to El Yunque National Forest
We begin today's adventure from our home-base in Fajardo. Fajardo is a small city in Puerto Rico located in the east region of the island. Fajardo is the hub of the majority of recreational boating in Puerto Rico and a popular launching port to Culebra, Vieques, and the American and British Virgin Islands. It is also the home to the largest Marina in the Caribbean, called Puerto del Rey.
Fajardo was founded sometime between 1760 and 1774 (depending on the authority) as Santiago de Fajardo. It was one of the locations used by the Americans to invade Puerto Rico in 1898.
Fajardo is popular among tourists, especially local tourists, because of its seafood, hotels, and ferry ports with daily trips to the islands of Culebra and Vieques. Fajardo's beaches are bounded by calm, clear water ideal for snorkeling. Seven Seas Beach offers plentiful water sports facilities, offshore points for sailing, snorkeling and plenty of scuba diving. Fajardo is also home to one of the few Bioluminescent Lagoons in the world.
Now sit back as we drive through Fajardo beginning our adventure to the famous El Yunque Rain Forest.
----
Upon leaving Fajardo, we pick up Route 3 which will take us up the coast to Luquillo before turning into the mountains to El Yunque.
----------
Just a short drive outside San Juan, Luquillo is a popular tourist destination with one of the nicest public beaches in the San Juan area.
One of my favorite stops in Luquillo are the Luquillo kiosks (or kioskos). This long row of humble buildings are right alogside Route 3 and the beach in Luquillo. Today, as we pass by, it is early and few of the kiosks have opened. But, later in the day and into the evening it will become crowded with locals and tourists. Don’t let their appearance discourage you — stop in and you will be in for an experience that is uniquely Puerto Rican. There are about 60 different kiosks that sell souvenirs, food and drinks.
We now turn south as we head into the El Yunque National Forest.
Anticipation builds as we drive along a winding road lined with lush vegitation.
As we enter El Yunque, it's interesting to note this is the only tropical rainforest that belongs to the U.S. Forest Service. El Yunque National Rainforest is located on the slopes of the Sierra de Luquillo mountains, encompassing 28,000 acres of land, making it the largest block of public land in Puerto Rico. It is home to over 200 species of trees and plants, 23 of which are found nowhere else.
Our first stop is La Coca Waterfall. This is by far the easiest waterfall to visit as it is right off the road.
La Coca Falls is probably best described as a slide falls. The water slides down a 60' rock face, after which the creek narrows down significantly. It’s a very pretty waterfall, and the tropical rain forest surrounding it is just stunning.
If you want to see a waterfall on Puerto Rico, this is your best bet, especially if you’re not interested in hiking up and down hills.
Next stop is the parking lot that begins the Big Tree Trail leading to La Mina Falls. The 0.7 mile hike begins mostly downhill with a few steps up and downhill for about 35 minutes or so.
11 of the 16 species of common coqui (tree frogs), have been found in El Yunque. This small frog earned its Puerto Rican common name due to the call of the most common coquí species on Puerto Rico, which begins as the sun sets and ends in early dawn. This has made it an animal of great endearment to Puerto Ricans.
Eventually we reach a small footbridge in front of the falls.
La Mina Falls is a relatively modest 10m waterfall surrounded by pools of cool mountain water, perfect for a refreshing dip.
Remember that 0.7 mile downhill hike to the falls. The tip back is uphill so be prepared for a bit more strenuous hike back to your car.
As we drive out of El Yunque, you'll notice quite a bit more traffic and cars parked alongside the road. I would highly recommend to visit the rainforest in the morning hours because as you can see the crowds increase in the afternoon, oftentimes leading to closing the park to traffic.
One final stop before heading back to Fajardo is the Yokahu Tower, providing spactacular views of the forst, the north coast and, on a clear day, the peak of El Yunque itself.

Day 3: el Yunque National Rainforest, Luquillo Beach, Plaza Las Americas
Welcome to my channel, Adventures of DWoods. These videos are geared towards traveling, experiencing new things, and just living life to the fullest. So, come on and go with me, on an adventure with DWoods. Happy Living!
Day 3 included at tour of the national rainforest. The only rainforest in the US. We paid $62 for this tour which included admission. However, because of the potential tropical storm coming in, most of the tourist attractions closed early. However, we didn't know that until we got there. Then once we got there, our tour guide told us to walk up the rest of the way... Well, some man in a jeep, found us wondering up and told us we had to leave. Along with numerous other tourists that were walking along the way. So, when we finally got back to our tour guide, she offered taking us to the other side of the rainforest or to the beach. Well, we chose the beach. But, once we got there we only have 50 minutes to bask in the sun before it closed, due to the tropical storm coming. Later that day, we went to the largest mall in the Caribbean.

El Yunque National Rain Forest, Puerto Rico
April 23, 2017 - Video by: Miguel A. Ramos AI News Service Puerto Rico
El Yunque Rain Forest in Puerto Rico is the only tropical rain forest in the US National Forest system. Ample rainfall (over 200 inches a year in some areas) creates a jungle-like setting – with lush foliage, waterfalls and rivers. Hike along the trails that cover miles of breathtaking terrain. The rain forest is located in the NE corner of Puerto Rico, with the main entrance in Rio Grande, just off Rt 3, on Rt 191.
The Forest contains hundreds of species of trees, orchids, plants and a few animals.

Puerto Rico | Rincon Beach | El Yunque Travel Vlog
Just got back from an amazing trip at San Juan Puerto Rico, Rincon beach, and the El Yunque Rain forest. We met up with our friends Christian and Bertha in Rincon beach, had some drinks at the beach house, and spent some time down in Ponce. Then we traveled to the other side of the island and explored El Yunque Rain Forest. The waterfalls were incredible. We stayed at a nice air B&B in luquillo beach and tried to catch a ferry from fajardo to culebra.
Thanks for watching!

Puerto Rico - El Yunque y Luquillo
En esta aventura nos desplazamos a 'El Yunque', el único rainforest en los estados Unidos. Exploramos a fondo esta selva tropical y después nos vamos a comer lechón, plato típico de Puerto Rico, a los kioskos de Luquillo
Luquillo kiosks - Luquillo Beach - PuertoRico Muct Visit close to El yunke
The kiosks are located on the north side of Route 3, near Luquillo Beach and just past the Route 191 entrance to El Yunque. Hours and days vary, but from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on most days, you'll usually find at least a few kiosks open.
We hike in El Yunque to Mt Britton Tower + Luquillo kiosks food Alcapurria!
A must do if you like hiking is going to El Yunque National Forest. It's the only rain forest in the United States, and has no wild animals. We hiked up to Mt Britto which was pretty easy and had amazing views. After our hike we drove to Luqillo to get some of Puerto Ricos famous Alcapurria!

El Yunque is sooo beautiful and is the only rainforest in the USA. It is totally worth visiting- unfortunately the hurricane has caused a ton of damage to the rainforest but there is a lot of regrowth already. Some mud slides have happened so they continue to have parts of it closed. The lookout tower and La Coca falls are right off the road and fairly simple to get to.
The 4th spot that we wanted to share is El Hippie! You can type in Charco El Hippie in your google maps and find it easily! It is a local swimming hole and local will cliff jump- it is a little harder to find though! Be sure to take bug spray!!
