AMMAIA - A Roman town in Lusitania
Ammaia -- A Roman town in Lusitania is the title of a museological booklet and dvd that was produced by the Radio-Past Team in order to make the results of the Ammaia investigation known to a wider public.
In several small chapters, the history of Ammaia is told and explained in the light of the most recent knowledge that the Radio-Past team, in collaboration with other institutions and individual researchers, acquired through the application of a series of non-invasive technologies. The comparison and interpretation of the data led to their visualization and subsequent 3D reconstruction, which shows a digital reborn Ammaia based on the archaeological evidence that is still buried underground.

Lisbon Madrid Hotel night train
From Madrid, I rode a train to Lisbon. This is my experience and a review on it.
----- ****------
It costs about 80- 100 Euros for this ride and it's a good way to travel since you will just hop in the train and you do not need to check in, pass thru immigration and customs. I pretty much saved 1 night from a hotel and it's pretty convenient. It's about 10 hour trip so it's quite perfect timing for sleep and getting prepared. I also did not lose signal for mobile data.

Trenhotel - Night train from Lisbon to Madrid in a private cabin
A great way to travel - Lisbon - Madrid - Lisbon. Consider the night train and have a great night sleep arriving all fresh and ready to roll.
The two sleeper cabins are small but comfortable. As a solo traveller it was perfect. This is a great alternative to flying and all the hassle of security checks, controlled liquids, etc., all the time wasted for such a short ride.
There are difference choices of cabins and seating, but I’m sure one of them will fit you just perfectly.
Here are some links (no affiliation) where tickets can be purchased.

Surrender, trust the driver and enjoy the ride!

There’s a new addition to the Park: the Tree Top Walk. As fall settles, we decided to visit the Park and explore this new feature. Walking along the treetops is a new and exciting experience.

Santa Cruz Seaplane replica in São Brás de Alportel Algarve
Santa Cruz Seaplane
Replica of the Fairey IIID seaplane, piloted by Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho, which arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 17, 1922 during the first air crossing of the South Atlantic.
Length: 10.92 m / Wingspan: 14.05 m / Height: 3.70 meters
Monument by Carlos de Oliveira Correia, honoring the 1st South Atlantic Air Crossing by Sacadura Cabral (pilot) and Gago Coutinho (navigator), from March 30 to June 17, 1922, totaling 8364 km, in 62 hours and 26 minutes of flight, with an average speed of 134km / hour.
Carlos de Oliveira Correia is an agronomist and landscape architect with extensive experience in forest production and management… but art is his great passion and for a decade he has been indulging in the execution of original works of art that mark the spaces and places. An example of this is the “rider” displayed at the roundabout in Castro Marim or the original “octopus” that decorates one of the roundabouts in the city of Quarteira. The most ambitious of his works, with the largest and most significant, came to São Brás de Alportel and recalls the memory of the great crossing that connected Portugal to Brazil in the first South Atlantic air link - the installation “Santa Cruz”, a replica of the seaplane. that reached Rio de Janeiro piloted by Sacadura Cabral and Gago Coutinho.
In this trip were used 3 Fairey III D seaplanes, belonging to Naval Aviation, the last of which, the Santa Cruz, is represented in this monument.
The crossing linked Lisbon (Portugal), Las Palmas (Canary Islands), S. Vicente and S. Tiago (Cape Verde), and the Boulders of S. Pedro and S. Paulo, Fernando de Noronha, Recife, Bahía, Porto Seguro, Vitória , and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
Sacadura Cabral was the only pilot throughout the trip. The two longest steps each lasted about 11 hours.
Gago Coutinho devised a pioneering precision astronomical navigation method and its devices: a sextant with an artificial level, and a course corrector. Special maps were prepared and pre-prepared astronomical calculations performed for specific points of each stage.
It was this reliance on Gago Coutinho's astronomical methods that allowed them to find, in the middle of the sea, the Penedos de S. Pedro and S. Paulo (small cliffs with a length of 250 m), after a 1652 km stage, over the Atlantic. without any outside help. None of the aircraft was equipped with a radio.
The 1922 Crossing linked 4 countries, 3 continents and 2 hemispheres, and coincided with the 1st centenary of Brazil's Independence.
UNESCO entered the Report of the First South Atlantic Air Crossing into the Memory of the World Register on 27 July 2011, which is thereafter considered a World Heritage Site.

AmaWaterways Excursion to Serpa, Portugal on Douro River Cruise Vacation in Portugal and Spain
AmaWaterways Excursion to the ancient fortress city of Serpa in southern jof Portugal during river cruise vacation up and down the Douro River into Spain on luxurious AmaVida and seeing many other parts of Portugal by bus as documented by travel filmmaker Clint Denn.
Serpa is of ancient origins and its establishment probably preceded the coming of the Romans to the area. After the Roman occupation, the neighbouring town of Beja (known as Pax Julia to the Romans) became the Roman capital of Pacensis (southern subdivision of Lusitania province) and Serpa was settled by Roman settlers. The archeological remains of a Roman Villa today lie close to Serpa.
The Moors settled in Serpa after their invasion of the Iberian Peninsula and remained until their defeat at the hands of Portuguese forces fighting their way south during the period of the Reconquista (the Christian re-conquest of Iberia).
As a result of Serpa's proximity to the Spanish border, the town has always been a defensive stronghold and today is still surrounded by thick castle walls. The town castle stands in the middle of town and is partly damaged as a result of the last Spanish invasion.
The AmaCerto and Zambezi Queen, launched in 2012, are being followed in 2013 with the AmaVida on the Douro River in Portugal and AmaPrimra, which was inspired by classic ocean yachts and ill provide the most distinctive river cruise experience.
