Lutterworth Whittle Weekend 18/19 May 2013
A special exhibition exploring the work of Sir Frank Whittle showed there is still plenty of interest in the aviation
pioneer more than 70 years after his jet engine first flew.
Displays at Lutterworth Museum at the weekend featured a number of artefacts from the work of Sir Frank's Power jets firm to develop the jet engine.
Among the exhibits were original combustion chambers from the engine, on loan from Snibston Discovery Museum.
There was also footage of the engine's testing and development, a model of the the first flight engine the W1 and Sidewinder and Martel missiles on loan from the Cold War Jets collection at Bruntingthorpe.
Tours took visitors to the Whittle roundabout, the original Power Jets workshop in Lutterworth, the jets display at Bruntingthorpe and Brownsover Hall in Rugby, where Sir Frank and his administrative staff based their offices.
Geoff Smith, of the museum, said: We had a lot of interest. We were very busy and well supported by the town.
The weekend marked the 72nd anniversary of Sir Frank's jet's first flight on May 15, 1941.
It also marked the 10th anniversary of the erection of a scale model of the jet aircraft on the Rugby Road roundabout at the southern entrance to Lutterworth.

Full Route Visual | Arriva Leicester 84 - Lutterworth to Leicester | 4203 (FJ08 LVO)
Here's my much better edited 84 visual back to Leicester from Lutterworth, and when I say better edited...
Well, as you know, originally I added the first clip (looping around the houses) to the outbound even though that technically marks the start of the inbound as I was struggling with getting songs to fix. The outbound is still on my re-film list as when I did it last month, I got 4512 which seems to have worsened since I did it on that 85 one, and I kept moving the camera up thinking it was too low.
Despite being an MMC route, I got a B9TL for this visual, At the time, the 84 and 85 were getting at least 3 Volvo B9TLs each day because the 31s needed some of the E400s. Today they're a common occurrence across the 44, 44A, 49, 50, 51, 84 and 85. The old Sapphires have returned to the 31 and 31A and spare E400 MMCs now go on the X3. Also, the 86 and 87 are now single-decker routes again, tending to use Solos and Streetlites.
Experiences: Despite being sister service to my local, my first time on this route was only in 2010 from Leicester to Whetstone, and then I didn't use it again for 6 years. I now use it more regularly from Blaby to Whetstone (I'm lazy like that, it's a gap of 3 stops). If cars displayed final destinations, the last few times I've been to Lutterworth before hand would just be London, if not that, New York and before that, Johannesburg. The only memory of Broughton Astley I have is the park which the X84 goes past and if not that, Cosby has only ever been for getting to the A5 in recent years.
How I felt: Despite what I mentioned above, I wasn't worried at all, even being the 3rd route checked off my list (would have been 4th had that first outbound 50 gone ahead) while the 85 was one of the last. Also, I found the views from Dunton Bassett to be quite remarkable (as in, I thought I could see East Midlands Airport. Also, at the time, this route had the closest to going under a tunnel (the M1 bridge splitting Whetstone and Cosby, obviously, now there's the 29 that goes under one at junction 22) and it was pretty cool running parallel with the motorway along the A426.
Songs used:
Since it was the Eurovision final over the weekend, this has influenced my song choices:
First up is probably the most famous Eurovision song in history: Sunstroke Project & Olia Tira - Run Away. This was Moldova's entry back in 2010 and the guy playing the saxophone became a very popular meme, known as the Epic Sax Guy.
Next up are my 2 favourite entries from this year's contest:
ZENA - Like It (Belarus)
Chingiz - Truth (Azerbaijan)
And of course, we came last. Oh well. I felt as soon as they were performed that one of these should have won and I am a bit gutted that they didn't, it would have been incredible if the top one did because ZENA is only 16.
Leicestershire - A fantastic city in the Midlands
Lutterworth - Leicestershire ( is a reasonably little market community in this area of England. It has a little greater than 8, 000 homeowners that live here.
In record Lutterworth was a vital place that stagecoaches stopped while on the way to areas like Oxford or London. To this day there are still numerous inns that continue to be from this amount of time. This is commonly a long destination for travelers of this area.
It is likewise known for being the home of the man that invented the jet engine, Sir Frank Whittle. There are statues that can be discovered right here that offer to commemorate this event in history that travelers can see. There was a pub called after him for many years too, however it was demolished throughout the 1990's.
St. Mary's Religion is another destination that lots of visitors delight in. The stunning wall surface paints that are within are incredible, and there is also a stunning tapestry there that is commemorative of the Millenium. These are something that any person that sees the area may want to challenge trying to see.
There is additionally a gallery right here that can give individuals a check out the past record of the community and its individuals. It has an amazing display based upon Rugby and the past record of the sporting activity too. There is no question some quite appealing things that a person could learn by checking out the Lutterworth museum.
If the outdoors is more your point after that you might determine to stroll through Fosse Meadows Attributes Park, or absorb the Foxton locks to see the little watercrafts that are there. There is a large selection of things for visitors to Lutterworth to enjoy. Look into just what there is and make it one of the places for your moves. There is bound to be something that you will certainly discover that will spellbind you while you are there.

Places to see in ( Bruton - UK )
Places to see in ( Bruton - UK )
Bruton is a town in Somerset, southwest England, known for its verdant countryside. On a hill in Jubilee Park, the Dovecote is a former watchtower from the 16th century with views of the town. Hauser & Wirth Somerset, an arts centre in converted farm buildings, hosts modern art exhibitions and seminars. To the east, woodland trails lead to King Alfred’s Tower, a folly commemorating the end of the Seven Years’ War.
Bruton is a small town, electoral ward, and civil parish in Somerset, England, situated on the River Brue along the A359 between Frome and Yeovil. It is 7 miles (11 km) south-east of Shepton Mallet, just south of Snakelake Hill and Coombe Hill, 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Gillingham and 12 miles (19 km) south-west of Frome in the South Somerset district. The town and electoral ward have a population of 2,907. The parish includes the hamlets of Wyke Champflower and Redlynch.
Bruton has a museum dedicated to the display of items from Bruton's past from the Jurassic geology up to the present day. The museum houses a table used by the author John Steinbeck to write on during his six-month stay in Bruton. The River Brue has a long history of flooding in Bruton. In 1768 the river rose very rapidly and destroyed a stone bridge.
It was the site of Bruton Abbey, a medieval Augustinian priory from which a wall remains in the Plox close to Bow Bridge. The priory was sold after the dissolution of the monasteries to the courtier Sir Maurice Berkeley (died 1581) whose Bruton branch of the Berkeley family converted it into a mansion which was demolished in the late eighteenth century.
The Dovecote which overlooks Bruton was built in the sixteenth century. It was at one time used as a house, possibly as a watchtower and as a dovecote. It is a Grade II* listed building and ancient monument. It is managed by the National Trust. The building was once within the deerpark of the Abbey and was adapted by the monks from a gabled Tudor tower.
Bruton was part of the hundred of Bruton. Bruton is referenced in a well-known English folk song, The Bramble Briar. A very rare copy of an Inspeximus of Magna Carta was discovered in Bruton in the 1950s and claimed by King's School, Bruton. The sale of the school's copy to the Australian National Museum paid for a great deal of the building work at the school.
Much of the town's history is exhibited at the Bruton Museum. The museum is housed in the Dovecote Building, in the town's High Street. The building also contains a tourist information office. The Bruton Museum Society was formed in 1989 and involved the community and local schools in the development of the collection of local artefacts. It was initially housed in the basement of the Co-Op and then in a disused Coach House owned by the National Westminster Bank. The museum moved to its current location in 1999 after it was jointly purchased by South Somerset District Council and Bruton Town Council.
Bruton station lies on the Great Western Main Line (in a section often referred to as the Berks and Hants route) between Westbury and Taunton. This route is the most direct between London (Paddington) and the West Country (ending at Penzance), but is slower due to the geographical nature of the route. The stretch between Westbury and Castle Cary is also part of the Heart of Wessex line served by Great Western Railway services between Bristol Temple Meads and Weymouth.
Work to build the railway line at Bruton Railway Cutting exposed geology of the epoch of the Middle Jurassic. It is one of the best places in England to demonstrate the stratigraphic distinction of ammonites in the subcontractus zone and the morrisi zone.
( Bruton - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Bruton . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Bruton - UK

New Year Special - Layout Update
Hey everyone, first off happy new year to you all. So in this New year layout update, you will see that we have started to box up all items, including railway items which were in the loft. You will also see that we have removed all the buildings, track and some scenery, so this now makes the layout un-operationable. Fingers crossed we will be moving into our new house in early 2015 as things currently stand, and as soon as we have moved, I will update you all again on the construction of the new layout

Enjoy a guided tour round this wonderful church.
Nestling so peacefully in the surrounding hills its history echoes with the results of conflicts through the ages from the times of Border Reivers, to the ravages of the two World Wars. It also commemorates those who had a deep love of this countryside and celebrates some remarkable people who had a great influence far beyond the immediate locality.
