Inverclyde Provost Councillor Martin Brennan lights the Beacon on Lyle Hill Greenock at 7pm on 11th November as part of the nationwide WW1 Beacons of Light celebrations.

Greenock (listen); Scottish Gaelic: Grianaig, is a town and administrative centre in the Inverclyde council area in Scotland, United Kingdom, and a former burgh within the historic county of Renfrewshire, located in the West Central Lowlands of Scotland. It forms part of a contiguous urban area with Gourock to the West and Port Glasgow to the East.
It lies on the south bank of the Clyde at the Tail of the Bank where the River Clyde expands into the Firth of Clyde.
Gourock Line
Over the past few months , Scotrail has 'cascaded' their new Class 380 EMU's to the Ayrshire Line , the Inverclyde Line and also to North Berwick. Here we see one of them about to approach the wonderfully named Fort Matilda Station , the first stop heading east after the terminus station at Gourock pierhead. This was taken from Lyle Hill , a superb look-out point above Gourock , giving splendid views of the upper Firth of Clyde. It is really a green and pleasant land.

Greenock Cemetery
A look at some of the impressive monuments and headstones within the Greenock cemetery. The cemetery is one of the largest in the UK and contains some incredible grave markings. It contains the graves of some fairly well known historical figures such as Highland Mary (the girlfriend of Robert Burns). It also contains the Watt Cairn in memory of Scottish inventor and Scientist James Watt.
