Valley of Rocks (Lynton) to Woody Bay and the Heddon Valley
No visit to Devon (England) would be complete without taking in some of the delightful scenery. In this video we start in Lynton, firstly making our way to “Valley of Rocks” via the coastal path, then taking a gentle drive along the highly scenic toll road towards Woody Bay, finally heading inland to the Heddon Valley.

The Snowdonian 2019 - Lynton & Barnstaple comes to the Welsh Highland
Two 21st Century locomotives took centre stage on the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways 2019 Supporters Railtour on Saturday 13th April 2019.
Lynton & Barnstaple Railway 2-6-2T 762 Lyn and 2-6-2T E190 Lyd are captured on their journey from Waunfawr (where the train turned around instead of heading to Caernarfon, due an earlier lineside fire on the Ffestiniog delaying the train) to Porthmadog through a windy Snowdonia National Park.

Lynton &Barnstaple Railway May 2017
A gala event at the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway in May 2017. Although only a small railway, it is worth visiting as it is situated on the edge of Exmoor in beautiful countryside. Also, any visit will provide funds to assist in the extension of the railway towards Lynton and back to Barnstaple.
Lynton & Lynmouth Cliff Railway & Flood Memorial Hall October 2012
The unique water powered cliff railway, opened on Easter Monday 1890, was funded by the wealthy London publisher George Newnes who'd built himself a holiday home, although it was more of a mansion, high on the hill above the town. He also sponsored the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway, the running in board from the town's closed station can be found in the garden of the Exmoor museum in the town. If you're visiting the area why not call in at Woody Bay station and see what's going on to rebuild the railway, also see some of my other films.
Newnes also gifted the impressive town hall. The water is captured from the West Lyn river and piped about a mile to the top station, water is let in to a tank below the passenger cabin. When it's time to depart, the operator of the bottom car lets some water out of his tank, which flows into the sea. The then heavier top car pulls the bottom one up. There are other water powered railways in the world but these reuse the same water, pumping it back to the top. At the bottom is the small village of Lynmouth which was devastated by a flood on 15th August 1952. An incredible 9 inches of rain had fallen on Exmoor during the previous 24 hours. Water, boulders and mud, surged down the East and West Lyn rivers which meet at Lynmouth. 34 lives were lost, some in surrounding villages and settlements.

Photographing Exmoor Ep2, Watersmeet Waterfall photography in the UK
So Mark Thompson and I decided to visit Watersmeet in Exmoor. Its an area where 2 rivers converge, Hoaroak Water and East Lyn River.
Overcast and damp conditions gave us some nice vibrant greens and the recent rain fall meant the rivers were raging. Although the area is beautiful its not actually that easy to photograph as good compositions are not easy to find. There is a lot going on and its easy to get carried away and not concentrate fully on what you are doing. We had a reasonable shoot overall I think, and a few good shots were taken.
Many thanks for watching, if you like this video please give it a thumbs up, feel free to leave a comment and dont forget to subscribe and click the bell so you get notified when I upload new content.

Lynton and Barnstaple Railway UK. Narrow Gauge Railway. A Look to the Future. North Devon Tourism.
Extension plans are described with views of the railway and the wonderful stock restoration that has been completed. Dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated staff are viewed operating at a very historically exciting time in Lynton and Barnstaple Railway history.
Interest in the Lynton and Barnstaple Narrow Gauge Railway is now intense as the extension has become an extremely important news item around the world of narrow gauge railways and railway preservation.
The completion of the coach preservation projects simply needs to been seen to be appreciated. If this standard of craftsmanship is to be continued, success for the railway can only follow.
Well Done Peco ! ! ! The commitment by Peco Trains to produce the extraordinarily detailed coaches and trucks is to be commended as OO9 scale modelling is just going to have to be a lot bigger than it is at present. Bachmann Trains also have seen the light and have many magical projects in the pipeline for OO9 modelling.
WooWooMad, from this week, is now in 210 countries around the world plus 50 States in America. ( I still can’t believe it how it has expanded in such a short time ! ) I can tell by my stats that interest for narrow gauge railways encircles the globe and I am sure that the fortunes of the Lynton and Barnstaple Narrow Gauge Railway are being followed with the greatest of interest in many countries around the world at this time of the progression of the extension.

Forgotten Stations - Barnstaple Town
Please watch: The abandoned Eurostar
--~--
The first station named Barnstaple Town was originally opened as Barnstaple Quay in 1874, and became Barnstaple Town in 1886. It was located in Commercial Road and later formed part of the bus station. The total cost of rebuilding the station in its later location was about £6000 (equivalent to £613,400 in 2016), of which £2000 was contributed by the L&B.
Opened on 16 May 1898 to serve as the connection to the Lynton and Barnstaple Railway (L&B), a Lynton and Barnstaple Railway line that ran through Exmoor from Barnstaple to Lynton and Lynmouth in North Devon, a distance by rail of almost 20 miles. Both lines were controlled by separate signal boxes.
Both lines came under Southern Railway ownership in 1923. The L&B signal box was downgraded to a ground-frame and the LSWR signal box took over control of the narrow gauge line.
The L&B closed in 1935. The main line closed, along with the station, in October 1970.
During the 1980s and early 1990s the old LSWR signal box was operated as a small museum for the L&B and the station building was in use as a restaurant. The signal box is now (2007) empty but the station building is now used as a school.
