#TOURISMMATTERS - Lýtingsstaðir Horse Farm
Tourism matters to Icelanders, as one of the biggest trades in the country. Everyone benefits from it and the communities grow and improve all over. Tourism has become one of the pillars we build our country on.
Evelyn Ýr runs Lýtingsstaðir - Horseback Riding in Skagafjörður with her husband and family, and has done so for the past 18 years. Before moving to Iceland, she worked in tourism with her parents in Germany. She says that tourism is very important to the community in Skagafjörður and has very visible and positive effects.

An Icelandic mother-child-day
Summer in Skagafjörður, North of Iceland....me and my son decided to spend the day on horseback. Just the two of us...on our mares Hátíð and Ósk.
The weather was fantastic and we spent unforgettable hours riding in the breathtaking landscape we are living in. Things are different when you see them from the back of a horse.
We rode a little bit more than 20 km over wide and soft grazing land with free running horses, along the country road, through rivers with ice cold water and hot springs beside. We had a waterfall on our way and watched the annual horse breeding competition while crossing the competition ground.
Our mares were fresh and willing during the whole ride and enjoyed the river crossing most as it was refreshing in the heat of the day (15°C)
The ride took us about 5 hours and we ended up in our village Varmahlíð to get an ice-cream. From there we got a transfer back home. A happy but tired child was sitting in the car with a happy and even more happy mother. This day will be unforgettable for both of us. Life is wonderful!
