The Historic White Pass Railroad - Skagway, Alaska
It started to get a little boring in Haines, so we decided to go over to Skagway for the day! On a last minute decision, we hopped aboard one of the White Pass trains to tour the summit. The last time that I had been up there was back in 2006 when my dad took me. I think that I'm able to appreciate the history, views, and wildlife a lot more now these days.
Ferry travel from Haines to Skagway, ruins at Dyea
Scenes from the Alaska State Ferry M/V LeConte, traveling from Haines to Skagway, Alaska. Film clip ends with brief glimpses of the Dyea Cemetery, and old pilings and dilapidated buildings from the Gold Rush town of Dyea, Alaska. Filmed in 1986 by Alaska filmmaker Bill Bacon. (Color/Silent/16mm film).
This sequence contains excerpts from AAF-20042 from the William W. Bacon III collection held by the Alaska Film Archives, a unit of the Alaska and Polar Regions Collections & Archives Department in the Elmer E. Rasmuson Library, University of Alaska Fairbanks. Helicopter and Dog Sledding on a Glacier in Alaska - Seward
There are some glaciers you can drive to, but very few that you can stroll to. Just 15 miles from Seward—where many cruises embark and disembark—Exit Glacier is one of the most popular road-accessible glaciers in the state. In fact, you can walk almost right up to the face of it in 30 minutes, by way of the Edge of the Glacier Trail.
Exit Glacier is not huge, but it looks big up close, so it makes a great place for photos. It’s also a good spot to learn about glacial movement, since it’s receding quickly; there's even a guide marking its recession over the past 120 years.
The well-developed trails here have good footing and interpretive signs, explaining the return of plant life after the ice. There’s also a self-guided audio tour on The Alaska App, narrated by the Park Service’s chief interpretive ranger.
If you’re looking for more of an adventure, take the Harding Icefield Trail, which climbs 3,500 feet in 4 miles, and gives great views of the glacier. There are also guided hikes on the glacier, if you want to strap on crampons and walk on the ice.
Alaska Incentive Trip 2018
May 18-25, 2018
In 2018, Precoa Escapes spent a week taking in the beauty of the Alaskan wild. The beautiful Celebrity Solstice was our home at sea as we made our way from Seattle, Washington to Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway, Alaska and Victoria, B.C. Some of the highlights included whale watching, a ride on a floatplane, the beauty of the secluded Tracy Arm Fjord, and an entertaining and memorable Celebration Event. We’re so glad we could spend another week with such an amazing group of talented and caring people.
Haines, Alaska WildLife Tour
This is a video of a wildlife tour that I went on with some friends in Haines, Alaska. Spoiler Alert: We did not see a bear :(

Epic Helicopter Ride onto Mendenhall Glacier | Juneau, AK
We always take our staff on an excursion at the end of the season. This year we took them on an epic helicopter ride up over the Juneau Icefield and then we landed on Mendenhall Glacier and explored for a while. We saw waterfalls and crevasses.
Many thanks to Temsco Helicopters for the fantastic discount (locals + group rate).
Sorry about the quality. I filmed this video on September 24, 2013, a week before I bought my HD 1080p camera.

Haines Alaska
Everyday working on the ferry, we make multiple trips to Haines, AK. Sometimes we dock there for hours before leaving leaving again and during those time's I like to go ashore and explore the town. Haines is known for the Chilkat mountaines and their world-renowned for its Heli-skiing, as well as being the location where the movie White Fang was filmed.

The Mt. Roberts Tramway experience | Juneau, Alaska
According to wikipedia, the Mount Roberts Tramway is an aerial tramway located just south of downtown Juneau in the U.S state of Alaska. In operation since 1996, the tram makes a six-minute ascent of 3,819-foot (1,164 m) Mount Roberts from the cruise ship docks (just feet above sea level) to a height of about 1,800 feet (550 m). A restaurant, theater, nature center and retail shops are located at the top of the tramway, as well as connections to trail leading both up and down the mountain. One trail up the mountain leads to a large cross erected by Roman Catholic Father Brown in the early 1900s.

Our Top Alaska Cruises to Take in 2020
Subscribe to the Eat Sleep Cruise YouTube Channel if you love to travel and cruise the world!
With more ships sailing the region than ever before, 2020 is a great year to cruise to Alaska. If you are considering a trip to this 49th state, you will want to take a look at our picks for the Top Alaska Cruises in 2020.
If you enjoy the video, make sure to give it a BIG THUMBS UP!
With ships from all major brands, there is a cruise ship with the features and amenities that is right for you.
Norwegian Cruise Line has two of its largest ships sailing the region again this year. Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy offer many innovative attractions that are fun for the whole family including a racetrack, laser tag, and an interactive virtual reality pavilion. Not to mention, there are many great dining options, Broadway hits in the main theater, and the Observation Lounge with floor to ceiling views of the amazing landscapes.
Royal Caribbean also has some great options for cruises to Alaska in 2020. Ovation of the Seas is the largest cruise ship sailing in the region and is specifically built for cold water cruising. This ship has some innovative features of its own including the SeaPlex with bumper cars and roller skating, as well as the North Star aerial gondola and a sky diving simulator. Additionally, Radiance of the Seas is always a cruiser favorite in Alaska as the ship offers some of the greatest views of Alaska from the nine-story central atrium and outward facing elevators.
Celebrity Cruises will also host a number of ships in Alaska in 2020 including Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Eclipse. Offering Solstice-class favorites like the Lawn Club, Hot Glass Class, and the Crush martini bar, there will be plenty to keep you entertained when you are not ashore exploring all that Alaska has to offer. Celebrity Millennium will also be cruising to Alaska in 2020. This ship has recently undergone an extensive revitalization with updates to the staterooms, dining, and more.
It is tough to pick the best Alaskan cruise for 2020 among the 8 Princess Cruises’ ships sailing in the region this year. Given that we are partial to mega-ships, Royal Princess makes our list. This ship offers signature Princess amenities and some amazing views from the SeaWalk, a 60-foot glass walkway extending 28 feet off the side of the ship. Star Princess also makes our list this year as it offers unique 10-day round-trip voyages from San Francisco.
If you are looking for an all-inclusive feel and simple elegance during your cruise to Alaska in 2020, look no further than Viking Orion. This ship will sail from Vancouver to Seward and visit Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, Sitka, Icy Strait Point, and Valdez. The best part is this trip includes seven guided tours among other amenities like complimentary WiFi, specialty dining, beer and wine at meals, bottled water, and more. These destination-focused itineraries compliment the unparalleled service and inclusive nature of the cruise line.
Finally, one of Holland America’s newest ships is also making its way to Alaska in 2020. The MS Koningsdam will be sailing 7-day round-trip cruises from Vancouver. When you need a break from sightseeing, Koningsdam offers plenty of top-notch amenities, entertainment, and dining as well, like performances on the World Stage, America’s Test Kitchen live cooking shows, and BBC Earth Experiences to bring you closer to nature.
No matter which ship you choose, your cruise to Alaska in 2020 will certainly be filled with majestic landscapes, magnificent wildlife sightings, and memories to last a lifetime.
