MB&F MAD GALLERY - The Dubai Mall
The MB&F M.A.D.Gallery concept is a captivating universe of kinetic art where Horological Machines and Mechanical Art Devices reign supreme.
MB&F’s first M.A.D.Gallery opened in Geneva in 2011, a stone’s throw from MB&F’s offices and atelier in the heart of the city’s old town.
A second M.A.D.Gallery was inaugurated in June 2014 in Taipei with the collaboration of local retail partners Swiss Prestige.
A third M.A.D.Gallery, operated by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, opened in Dubai in January 2016 and is now located in The Dubai Mall.
MB&F created the M.A.D.Gallery in order to situate their Horological and Legacy Machines in an appropriate context and along the way, they have discovered kindred spirits in the world of mechanical art. MB&F Founder and Creator Maximilian Büsser explains the concept behind the gallery and the common thread running through the fascinating pieces in the collection:
“We saw the M.A.D.Gallery as the perfect platform to showcase our own Machines as well as other pieces of kinetic art by other creators whom we greatly admire.
MB&F create Machines that tell the time, not to tell the time. They are unique examples of mechanical horology but, more than that, they are pieces of three-dimensional kinetic art. The same goes for all the creators featured in the gallery: their craft transcends a practical purpose and their creations assume the status of artworks.
Thanks to the M.A.D.Gallery, we are meeting like-minded artists operating in parallel worlds; people who think like us and share our passion for creating mechanical art.”

Switzerland: $20K Astrograph pen inspired by space exploration goes on sale in Geneva
With its mechanical art and futuristic design inspired by the dreams of space exploration, an Astrograph pen created after four years of cooperation between premium Swiss writing tool company Maison Caran d'Ache and luxury watchmaker MB&F went on sale in Geneva, Tuesday.

SIHH 2019: Hands-on the MB&F + L’EPEE 1839 Medusa table clock
The MB&F + L’EPEE 1839 Medusa table clock (it also can be ceiling mounted) is available in three limited editions of 50 pieces each with green, blue, or pink Murano hand-blown glass dome and tentacles. In its tenth collaboration with Switzerland’s premier clockmaker, L’Epée 1839, MB&F plunges into warm ocean waters where the beautiful and ancient jellyfish proliferate.

'Wall Machine' by Swiss artist Florian Schlumpf
Tick-tock. Tick-tock. The rhythmic swing of the long pendulum paired with the steady tempo of the Time Machine mechanism fills the air with harmonic sounds – a melody orchestrated and invented by artisan Florian Schlumpf. The MB&F M.A.D.Gallery is proud to present an installation of impressive kinetic art pieces designed and developed by Schlumpf, an expert engineer with a passion for art and mechanical precision.
The dynamic Wall Machine by Schlumpf creates a dramatic visual into the universe of time by virtue of its size. Measuring approximately 2.1 x 2.2 meters (6.9 x 7.2 feet), the bold, black filigree frame houses black and golden anodized gears contrasting with a mirror-polished golden pendulum disk and hands. A striking component is the large 1.8-meter (5.9 feet) orbital drive. An anchor beam rotating around the central anchor wheel provides constant movement.

One week for one watch hand, you must be crazy!
More than 30 operations and at least one week are necessary to manufacture a hand for a high-end watch. The WATCHES.tv filmed into the whole production process at Fiedler's factory in Geneva. It is amazing to see how much attention such a tiny part needs.
Cool Hunting Video: MB&F
For the first video in our Lincoln Hello Again series, we traveled to Geneva, Switzerland to visit one of the most forward-thinking watchmakers on the planet. In the digital age, when the smartphone has become the modern-day pocket watch, the traditional wristwatch has become something of a relic. It serves more as a fashion accessory or status symbol—especially mechanical watches, with their complicated movement. MB+F founder Maximilian Busser set out to give the mechanical watch renewed purpose by turning it into a 3-D mechanical piece of art and we were lucky to see behind-the-scenes at their workshop.
Miki Eleta's Die Sieben at the MB&F M.A.D. Gallery
Calibre's Editor-in-Chief Carl Cunanan talks with an MB&F M.A.D. Gallery curator about Miki Eleta's Die Sieben. Translating to The Seven in English, it's a kinetic sculpture that presents with intricate detail and unique acoustics. Steel balls travel through the 1.4m tall sculpture, rolling through 16 passageways and striking cylinders to chime 16 different tones. Gravity and the drive of 47 gears keep the balls in motion, rolling to the bottom where these are gathered back up again for an unending cycle of descents, playing a unique tune that would repeat itself only once every seven years.

MB&F M.A.D.Gallery Time Machine With Old Nixie Tubes
Just imagine time displayed by big bulbs manufactured during the communist era in East Germany. This is the new Nixie Machine presented last month at the M.A.D. Gallery in Geneva. The Nixie Machine is a clock that displays hours, minutes, seconds, and also other functions. It was realised by Franck Buchwald, an artist based in Berlin and well-known for manufacturing lamps with a steam-punk science-fiction design. The project was possible thanks to a Nixie tubes' passionate, Alberto Schileo, who fund a stock of dozen of brand news bulbs in an old storage of the Bulgarian army! Schileo convinced Max Büsser, founder of MB&F and the M.A.D. Gallery, and Buchwald in order to produce 12 pieces in total. Watch how these gentlemen succeeded in showing time in a spectacular way!
