STORYLINE:
Children from a school in Srinagar held a memorial service on Saturday to commemorate the victims who died last year in the South Asia earthquake.
The disaster devastated many parts of northern Pakistan and Indian Kashmir, killing 80,000 people and leaving more than 3 (m) million homeless.
Many children were killed when schools and houses collapsed.
The pupils said prayers and held a three minute's silence to remember the dead.
Some of them held posters with messages such as, 'One we are, one we should always feel.'
The children hoped that these would send out a message of hope and solidarity to the people of Kashmir.
The memories of the disaster are still fresh in the minds of many.
''It was a drastic and terrible day on that day. Everybody in grief, shock, pain, suffering and what not,'' said Nusrat, a teacher.
One of the main tasks after the earthquake has been to help young children recover from the trauma by providing them with a proper education.
Many thousands of survivors in northern Pakistan and Indian Kashmir are still living in tents and temporary shelters.
They are now preparing to face a second winter without permanent homes.
Reconstruction has been constrained by rigorous new quake-proofing rules and has moved slowly.
According to the relief agency Oxfam, 1.8 (m) million survivors are still living in tents or makeshift shacks.
