MGR Samadhi otherwise called it as MGR Memorial is a memorial structure built on the Marina beach in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. It was built in memory of former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. G. Ramachandran. Spread over 8.25 acres, the memorial is located next to the Anna Memorial and has the highest footfall on the seafront. The body of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and MGR's protégé J. Jayalalithaa is also buried at this site near to MGR Samadhi.

MGR memorial in Chennai
A well known memorial of a well known person, MGR Memorial House, in Chennai, is dedicated to MG Ramachandran, India's first actor to become a chief minister and that too for three consecutive terms until his death. Considered as one of the greatest political leaders and actors of the state, his followers idolize him as Puratchi Thalaivar (Revolutionary leader). He was posthumously honoured with Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award of India.
The memorial house is situated at Arcrot Street, T. Nagar and was opened for public viewing in 1990 by Mrs Janaki Ramachandran in the presence of Dr. N.C Raghavachari, Shri N.P.V.Ramasamy Udayar and many well wishers of Late Dr. MGR. This was his official residence and was used by him for more than two decades. This memorial house is open for public viewing on all days except Tuesdays from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
The house has a green that comes into view as you enter the house. The songs featured in Late MGR's films playing in a low tune all along will infuse the atmosphere with the feeling of his olden and golden days of acting. There are a number of shields displayed in the reception which were presented to MGR. The first floor of the house has his office room where there are displayed his belongings and personal things which he used.
Things like the swords, spears, heavy wooden clubs used by him, his plate, tumbler, telephone instrument, his shirts and the medals won by him are also shown here. Apart from this, there are things like his Bharat Ratna medal, books read by him, camera, photographs taken from MGR's films, his letters, his famous cap and dark glasses and the certificate degree of his doctorate are all displayed here. However, due to lack of space, all of his photographs are not been exhibited.
People come to this memorial to see what all things belonged to him, to have a glimpse of his memory, so that they can remember him the way he was. The memorial house has no entrance fees as it is maintained by MGR Memorial Charitable Trust. For a MGR fan, the Galleries of MGR's films and photos displayed is something to be proud of.

Amma Samadhi Chennai | Marina Beach MGR Statue Memorial & Jayalalitha Samadhi Memorial in Marina Beach Chennai - Visiting Chennai's MGR Memorial & Jayalalitha Memorial (Amma Samadhi) in Marina Beach Chennai. To pay tribute to Amma Dr. J Jayalalitha after her death, I went to visit Chennai for a day. Video shows IRCTC Food Quality ordered in Vizag (Vishakhapatnam) station during my Indian Railway journey to Chennai from Bhubaneswar. After reaching around 3am at Chennai Central Railway station, I rested there inside Chennai Central Railway Station for 2 hours. Then, after breakfast and lunch, I went to visit famous Marina Beach of Chennai and then MGR Samadhi place (MGR Memorial) and Amma's Samadahi (Jayalalitha's tomb (memorial)) in Marina Beach, Chennai. Here is the video of my one-day visit of Chennai City visiting MGR Memorial (MGR Samadhi), Jayalalitha's Tomb (Jayalalitha Samadhi) on Marina Beach in Chennai.
Later in the afternoon I had delicious south Indian foods like Uthapam, Dosa, etc in Chennai.

The memorial was built in 1988 and was inaugurated by Janaki Ramachandran, wife of M. G. Ramachandran, in May 1990.[3] The memorial was remodelled and the whole complex was laid with marbles and opened in 1992 by J. Jayalalitha when she became the chief minister of the state of Tamil Nadu the previous year. When J. Jayalalitha died on 5 December,2016, she was buried next to MGR.

In October 1984, MGR was diagnosed with kidney failure and rushed to the Downstate Medical Center, Brooklyn, United States for treatment, undergoing a kidney transplant. MGR died on December 24, 1987 after his prolonged illness. He was 70. His death sparked off a frenzy of looting and rioting all over the state of Tamil Nadu. Shops, movie theatres, buses and other public and private property became the target of violence let loose all over the state. The police had to resort issuing shoot-at-sight orders. Tamilians from Bangalore rushed to Madras in trains to see the mortal remains of MGR. Govt had announced free train facility for this visit. The violence during the funeral alone left 29 people dead and 47 police personnel badly wounded. [1],[2] This state of affairs continued for almost a month all over the state of Tamil Nadu. Around one million[3] people followed his remains, around 30 followers committed suicide and people had their heads tonsured. After his death, his political party, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, split between his wife Janaki Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa; they later merged in 1988. In 1989 Dr. M. G. R. Home and Higher Secondary School for the Speech and Hearing Impaired was established in the erstwhile Residence MGR Gardens, Ramapuram, in accordance with his will dated January 17, 1986. His official residence at 27, Arcot Street, T.Nagar is now MGR Memorial House and is open for public viewing. His film studio, Sathya Studios has been converted into a women's college.

Marina Beach is an urban beach in the city of Chennai, India, along the Bay of Bengal, part of the Indian Ocean. The beach runs from near Fort St. George in the north to Besant Nagar in the south, a distance of 13 km (8.1 mi), making it the longest urban beach in the country and the worlds fourth longest.
The Marina is primarily sandy, unlike the short, rocky formations that make up the Juhu Beach in Mumbai. The average width of the beach is 300 m (980 ft) and the width at the widest stretch is 437 m (1,434 ft).
