Extradition bill protesters cause rush hour chaos in Hong Kong by blocking main MTR rail line

Rush hour train services were disrupted and delayed in Hong Kong on the morning of July 24, 2019, after protesters launched another campaign targeting railway operator MTR Corporation.
The protest in Admiralty is related to July 21 violence at another MTR station in Yuen Long, where a mob of men in white T-shirts attacked passengers, passers-by, and those returning from an earlier demonstration in Central.
The group accuses the MTR of mishandling train door operations during the attack, and police of delaying their response to the violence.

Unprecedented scenes of violence played out in Hong Kong’s MTR network on the night of Saturday, August 31, as police stormed into Prince Edward station and beat protesters on a train.
Protesters and their supporters accused police of beating commuters indiscriminately, but police said they were going after radicals who had changed their clothes and were pretending to be passengers.
Members of the police Special Tactical Squad, known as the Raptors, entered the station after the MTR reported that protesters were vandalising the premises and fighting with passengers.
Sixty three people were arrested following violence in Prince Edward and Mong Kok stations, which remained closed on Sunday.

In December 2007, the operations of MTR and Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation have been merged to form one of the most efficient and far-reaching railway networks in Asia. The newly expanded system extends all the way from the heart of Central and Causeway Bay to the New Territories and Lantau Island.
Today, the entire system has 91 stations and 68 Light Rail stops. MTR operates ten main commuter lines serving Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. Among them, the East Rail Line connects to the boundary at Lo Wu and Lok Ma Chau stations for travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen. In addition, a Light Rail network serves the local communities in the North West New Territories, while a fleet of buses provides convenient feeder services.
The MTR also operates the Airport Express, a dedicated express rail link providing the fastest connections to Hong Kong International Airport and AsiaWorld-Expo. Passengers can also travel with ease to Guangdong province, Beijing and Shanghai in the mainland of China using the MTR's intercity railway services.

Guide to Hong Kong's MTR
Guide to Hong Kong's railway system called the Mass Transit Railway or well known as the MTR for getting around Hong Kong.
MTR is Hong Kong's railway company since 2007. But before that, MTR was just a metro rail system company since 1977 and their national railway company was the Kowloon-Canton Railway or well known as KCR operating suburban trains and intercities as sharing with the Ministry Of Railways (MOR) of Mainland China.
This video is a short introduction to the MTR especially for those who haven't been to Hong Kong. I hope this video will guide you well if you are travelling to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong's MTR trains crash during signal test
Subscribe to our YouTube channel for free here:
Two trains of Hong Kong’s railway system the MTR collided near Central station during an overnight test of a new signal system. Both drivers of the trains were taken to hospital after the crash. MTR Corp officials say the railway will suspend all testing until the crash has been thoroughly investigated.
The MTR experienced a morning of delays following the crash, as well as because of a separate incident at around 10.34am the same day when the East Rail Line was delayed after a person reportedly fell onto the tracks.
Service at the Mong Kok East station was suspended because a woman had fallen near Kowloon Tong station. During the incident, trains between Tai Po Market and Lok Ma Chau stations were running less frequently between Hung Hom and Mong Kok East, and between Tai Wai and Lo Wu.

MTR l Hong Kong
Getting around Hong Kong to enjoy its world-class attractions couldn't be easier with the quick and efficient Mass Transit Railway (MTR) system. This covers all major districts in the territory, including stops at the boundary with Mainland China (Lo Wu Station and Lok Ma Chau Station).
The MTR consists of ten rail lines, including Island, Tsuen Wan, Kwun Tong, Tseung Kwan O, Tung Chung, West Rail, East Rail, Ma On Shan, Disneyland Resort and the Airport Express. The MTR also operates a light rail system that runs between Yuen Long and Tuen Mun in the New Territories, plus an inter-city train service to Mainland China.
It is one of the most profitable such systems in the world, with a high farebox recovery ratio of 186%. Opened in 1979, the system now includes 218.2 km (135.6 mi) of rail with 152 stations.
