Canberra Southern Cross Club Twilight Cocktail Cruise
The wind was in my hair, the sun shined brightly and the fluffy clouds moved gracefully in the bright blue sky. I was at the Canberra Southern Cross Club's jetty just about to board the M.V. Southern Cross for an arvo of cocktails and canapes! If you're anything like me, a day our on the water puts a smile on my face. Toss in good food and great company and it seals the deal.

Oceania Regatta Cruise: Welcome to Port Melbourne
Close-by Melbourne has an excellent cruise port in Port Melbourne with wonderful walking/biking trails. A tram travels right from the port to City Center. How easy is that. However, we spent most of our day in the wonderful suburb of Port Melbourne enjoying the beach, boutiques and restaurants.

Ocean liner Canberra launched in Belfast - 1960
45,000 tons of ocean-going liner ready to take to the water at Harland and Wolff's Belfast Yard: she's Canberra, the largest merchant ship built in Britain since the Queen Elizabeth. Just nine years after Prime Minister Menzies had named the Canberra bomber, his wife Dame Pattie gave the name to a liner. There was Australian wine to wish her well, and the latest P and O liner moved majestically down the ways.

PAKISTAN: FORMER P&O FLAG SHIP CANBERRA ARRIVES TO BE SCRAPPED
Natural Sound
The Former British P&O Flag ship Canberra has arrived at a scrap heap in Pakistan to be stripped down.
Her illustrious career included a tour of duty during the Falklands war after operating as a world renowned cruise liner.
After being decommissioned, she was purchased by a Pakistani ship breaker for 280 (m) million rupees (6.3 (m) million dollars).
Affectionately known as the Great White Whale, the Canberra now stands in her moorings at the Gadani Shipyard, near Karachi in Pakistan.
Originally, she was built at a cost of 17 (m) pounds sterling, and when launched in March 1960, was the largest British post-war passenger ship.
During that decade she carried out cruises and liner voyages to Australia - whose capital city she was named after - transporting emigrating Britons.
In the 1970s she became a full time cruise ship.
In 1982, Canberra was requisitioned by the Ministry of Defence, converted by the military, and served a 94 day tour of duty during the Falklands war.
But the glory days are over for her now - as can be seen by the deserted decks and dilapidated interior.
She is gradually being taken apart by shipbreakers at this wreckers yard in Pakistan.
The Gadani Shipyard bought Canberra for 280 (m) million rupees (6.3 (m) million dollars).
The shipbreaking industry in Pakistan has been suffering a decline in recent years.
This is due primarily to a lack of demand, but also, competitors such as India offer lower prices.
The Gadani Shipyard has found an illustrious addition to its fold, in the Canberra.
Her value will now be measured ashore by the shipbreakers who are stripping her of her fixtures, fittings, and in time, her grandeur.

SS Northern Star - Press Trip - 1962
Here's the new Shaw Savill round-the-world cruise ship: the 22,000 ton Northern Star, a one-class tourist liner with more than 500 cabins. Turbine-driven, she cruises at 22 knots, and she carries more than 1,400 passengers. Our cameramen went aboard for the press trip, a sort of dress-rehearsal for her maiden voyage from Southampton. On the bridge, we joined the man in charge: Captain Edmeads.
