Maastricht, Netherlands, City Tour
Maastricht is a unique city in Netherlands because it’s at the southernmost point of the country, way down by Belgium, by Germany, close to France even, and so the culture down here is little bit different than you find in the north and the west of the Netherlands.
It’s a very cosmopolitan city. It’s got that typical pedestrians zone with many little lanes just for people, no cars allowed, a lot of restaurants and cafés, there is the historic sites, the churches, there’s an old fortification and medieval walls around part of the city, and there’s a variety of other touring activities.
The main pedestrian street is Grote Staat. It goes right to the heart of Maastricht and it’s all for pedestrian, it's bicycles, people walking their dog, people out shopping. This evening it's about 7 PM we're getting twilight already. It's a Thursday, shops are open until nine on Thursdays, otherwise generally closing at 6 PM. So Thursday night is a great time to be out walking. And this is September, late September, the weather is unusually warm. For this whole month it’s been just perfect so that might be a the time for you to consider coming to visit the Netherlands.
It's an area for pedestrians and bicycles, for baby carriages, for people walking their dogs, but no cars loud here in this central shopping area of historic Maastricht.
It’s a pretty extensive zone that goes for dozens of blocks and with two main squares that are connected by the lovely pedestrian lanes. Naturally most of the shops are clothing stores but there’s a variety of other kind, there is the art galleries, sundries, there are cafés, there are always the bakeries, and the bar on the corner, there’s a few modern shopping malls tucked away in here as well too, beautiful Maastricht

Starting with a visit to Haarlem, then to Leiden, doing a few day trips out from there. Then to Delft for three more nights and excursions to The Hague, political capital of the nation.
Then to Rotterdam the great modern city of the Netherlands, continuing to Utrecht, a university town with a large historic center and then to Maastricht in the southern part of the country. I'll also be going up to the Alkmaar cheese market which is a lot of fun.
This video is a summary of the trip through the Netherlands. We will be presenting short segments about each city here, but we have 22 movies providing a lot more details about these places so be sure to look for them in our collection.
See the 23 Dutch movies here:
Traveling between cities was so easy because the Netherlands has got perhaps the best train system in Europe. It's phenomenal. The trains are clean, fast, frequent and not expensive. This is a small country, so the cities are relatively close together, you can get from one to the next and 15 or 30 minutes usually. This superb rail service in itself makes a good reason to visit this country, shift for it really does eliminate some of those logistical problems of travel, just getting around. It is so easy with these trains.
Some call it Holland, but the country is The Netherlands. Holland is two provinces in the Netherlands.

Dutch sheep in Maastricht
We came across some sheep in the middle of the city of Maastricht in the Netherlands. They were quite curious and liked eating the grass we fed them. I love their skittish BAAA!

N278: Maastricht - Vaals, the Netherlands
I'm not daviedoff1979. Just so you know.
Also sorry about the quality, it dropped during the upload sequence. I got it figured out now, though~
I sometimes keep to the left too much, but that's because I check to take someone over. If no opportunity is available, I return, which can look as swaying.
The N278 runs from Maastricht to Vaals.
It used to be the major route from Maastricht to Vaals, until the A79 and A76 were completed.
Enjoy the ride!

Wikipedia:
Erzsébetváros ( Elizabethtown) is the 7th district of Budapest, situated on the Pest side of the Danube. The inner half of the district was the historic Jewish quarter of Pest. The Dohány Street Synagogue, the largest functioning synagogue in Europe, is located in this district. Currently it is the most densely populated district of Budapest with 29,681.3 person per km2. In 1910 Erzsébetváros had 152,454 inhabitants. During the socialist era Erzsébetváros's population decreased rapidly, because young people and families moved to the newer panelized boom districts. Gentrification and recovery started in the middle of the 2000s
The Dohány Street Synagogue (Hungarian: Dohány utcai zsinagóga / nagy zsinagóga; Hebrew: בית הכנסת הגדול של בודפשט, Bet ha-Knesset ha-Gadol shel Budapesht), also known as the Great Synagogue or Tabakgasse Synagogue, is a historical building in Erzsébetváros, the 7th district of Budapest, Hungary. It is the largest synagogue in Europe, seating 3,000 people and is a centre of Neolog Judaism.
The synagogue was built between 1854 and 1859 in the Moorish Revival style, with the decoration based chiefly on Islamic models from North Africa and medieval Spain (the Alhambra). The synagogue's Viennese architect, Ludwig Förster, believed that no distinctively Jewish architecture could be identified, and thus chose architectural forms that have been used by oriental ethnic groups that are related to the Israelite people, and in particular the Arabs. The interior design is partly by Frigyes Feszl.
The Dohány Street Synagogue complex consists of the Great Synagogue, the Heroes' Temple, the graveyard, the Memorial and the Jewish Museum, which was built on the site on which Theodor Herzl's house of birth stood. Dohány Street itself, a leafy street in the city center, carries strong Holocaust connotations as it constituted the border of the Budapest Ghetto
Leiden walking tour, Netherlands
We’re in Leiden, Netherlands. enjoying the pleasures of this beautiful town. It's another one of the great historic cities of the Netherlands, most famous perhaps for the University. It's the oldest university in the Netherlands, founded back in the mid-16th century and so there's a lot of university students here. And it's not as touristic, certainly not nearly as crowded, as a place like Amsterdam, which is only about 1/2 an hour away by train.
So it's really a refreshing change to come and visit smaller cities like Leiden. This city has got the canals running through it, as most Dutch cities do. And here it's really quite special, the canals come right through the middle of the old town.
There's half a dozen of these very peaceful waterways, especially nice in the morning, busy in the afternoon with lots of people out walking around shopping, eating and drinking.
During the program you will get a good look at most of the interesting parts of Leiden. I'll take you on a thorough walking tour, we will go down some of the main lanes, the little back lanes, side lanes. We will see the University and its botanical gardens. We will walk along canals and we'll just show you this town inside and out.
Starting in this central part of the city, probably the most attractive and popular place to spend time, where the Old Rhine canal and New Rhine canal come together.

4K Cab Ride NL Zaandam - Den Helder - Amsterdam / IC (80)3010 + 833 / 15-06-2019
Autumn in here! So it's time for a rainy video! It's actually a video from last June, but still. It looks like it's autumn. Haha. I hope you will like it. I hope to show you now all our work is done with loads of sunshine.
We start our journey in Zaandam. It's early in the morning and I just took a cab from Amsterdam to Zaandam to get this train from the shunting tracks over there. After making the whole train ready for its departure we take the train from the shunting track at departure time and take it as empty train to first stop: Alkmaar. Because we are an early train the train dispatcher uses our train to take some of the rust away from some junction in Uitgeest. That's why the detour and we aren't running straight through Uitgeest on high speed.
After arrival in Alkmaar I waited for a while on my train manager and the first passengers. Then we take the train as intercity to Den Helder. Well, it's called an intercity, but we stop on all stations on our way to our final stop. It's called an intercity because this train runs between Den Helder and Nijmegen and skips multiple station between Nijmegen and Alkmaar.
As you can see we depart with al little delay and it's hard to get back on time. This is because the tracks are wet and even in summer time this means the tracks can be slippery. Steal on steal and water and other chemical stuff on the tracks aren't the best combination.
After our arrival in Den Helder we change the direction of the train and return under intercity number 833 to Alkmaar. Of course we makes stops at all stations until Alkmaar again. In Alkmaar we combine the train with another train and after 15 minutes take the train further in the direction of Amsterdam. Normally the train continues right away, but today there are construction works around Amsterdam and the train schedules have been changed. On our arrival in Amsterdam Sloterdijk you can see the hard workers in action replacing old tracks for new ones.
I forgot one thing in the video. And that is our arrival time in Amsterdam. Whoops! Well, I won't let my computer render this video all over again, so here it is: we arrive at 09:32:-- at Amsterdam Central Station. Final stop for this video.
I hope you have enjoyed it and if you have any questions you know how to contact me! Have a good weekend! Cheers.
