50 Years Later: MacArthur's Duty, Honor, Country Speech
This year marks the 50th anniversary of General Douglas MacArthur's Duty, Honor, Country speech at West Point. Pat Riedel, then-General William Westmoreland's secretary, was in the Poop Deck, transcribing the speech live. Now 50 years later, she recounts her experiences from that day.
As the fifth recipient of the Sylvanus Thayer Award, MacArthur addressed the Corps of Cadets in the Mess Hall. Duty, Honor, Country: Those three hallowed words reverently dictate what you ought to be, what you can be, what you will be is one the most famous lines from his acceptance speech.

Touring The - Nauticus Naval Museum Norfolk, VA & USS Wisconsin (BB-64)
Nauticus was incorporated under the National Maritime Center Authority in February 1988. The following month, Rear Admiral Jackson Knowles Parker USN, (Ret), retired commander of Norfolk Naval Base, became the Founding Executive Director. Construction began at the former site of Norfolk's Banana Pier on the downtown Norfolk Waterfront in February 1992 and Nauticus opened to the public in June 1994. Other attractions close by include the Virginia Zoo, Norfolk Scope and Harbor Park, home to the Norfolk Tides.
There is a great parking garage across the street from the Naval Museum. Park here and walk to many other great museums in the area. Including the Gen. Douglas MacArthur museum. The USS Wisconsin (BB-64) is next to this Museum. You enter the USS Wisconsin (BB-64) through the museum and this is where you purchase the tickets to go on the Wisconsin.
The City of Norfolk opened the Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center—located at Nauticus on April 7, 2007. The 80,000-square-foot, passenger-friendly facility features views of the Elizabeth River; an enclosed, elevated passenger gangway; a retractable bridge leading into a 16-slip marina; a terrazzo floor tile in the entrance; a separate lounge and check-in area for cruise line VIP passengers; a security-focused Customs and Border Protection area and an embarkation stations. Its first passenger ship, RCI's Empress of the Seas, arrived on April 28 2007.
The Half Moone also serves as an event venue with approximately 23,000 square feet of event spaces, each of which include interpretation and exhibits. Among the areas available for special event rental are the Bermuda Room, which displays artifacts and objects that tell the historic connections between Virginia and Bermuda; the Half Moone Vista, which includes some facts about the original fort; and the Lido and Promenade Decks, which address functions of those traditional decks on board cruise ships.
The name—Half Moone—is taken from the name of the fort that was built on the same site in 1673 in the form of a half moone. The fort was built to protect Norfolk's burgeoning maritime industry.

Wayback Playback: United States elevator at the Baptist Healthplex in Clinton, MS
This video was taken in 2013 and was uploaded on my defunct Mid-South Elevators youtube channel that I had created thinking I needed a fresh start for content but it failed because lack of viewers...
Providence, RI: Millar Hydraulic Stateside Mall Elevators @ Providence Place
This is the Millar Roped Hydraulic Mall Elevator, on the Stateside end of Providence Place, Providence, Rhode Island.
First thing I noticed is how much it looks like one of the Monties I've ridden, so I thought both of these Mall lifts were from them, but upon closer research, found it to be otherwise.
Anyway, like any Millar variant of a Schindler product, they're crap. They shake, the valve timings are horrible, and are inconsistent. The later one also had slight pre-door, but that's likely more to sloppy workmanship than intent.
What's funny about these Mall elevators is that they only serve the parking decks, and just the first floor of the mall itself. I figure there must be central ones that cover all three floors, but there wasn't. You have to rely on other parking garage elevators which serve both. This is the one bad design of the complex I've found.

SDA Church Raided. Members Beaten, Bibles Confiscated & Trashed. Forced to Sign Doc Renouncing Faith
A Seventh-Day Adventist Church was raided by 200 Police Officers and Government Officials. Attacks on House Churches Intensify Across China. Religious Liberty and Human Rights In China are being violated while christians are being persecuted under the Communist China party which is being led by Xi Jinping:
Protestant house churches, regarded as a threat to the regime due to large numbers of believers, face total extinction, people threatened to give up their faith.
Police: Evangelism harms people
“Evangelism in public places disturbs social order, harms the people, and breaks the law,” an officer, holding a copy of the new Regulations on Religious Affairs in hand, was berating two house church believers on October 12. The two believers in Nanchang, the capital of the southeastern province of Jiangxi, were arrested for distributing gospel leaflets in a local market that day and were brought to a police station.
US-China War Before The Sunday Law. Communism Falls in Bible Prophecy. Daniel 11, Trade War:
Later in the month, local government officials accused a house church believer of “slandering and rebelling against the state.” He was diagnosed as having “a mental disorder” because he had religious stickers on his motorbike, arrested, and sent to a mental hospital. On November 1, his family went to the hospital to visit him but were refused. A doctor told them to come back in a month.
On September 29, five house church believers from Nanyang city in the central province of Henan were arrested and interrogated after they were reported for evangelizing. The next day, police officers escorted them to a detention center. Three of them were detained for 13 days, and two for 10, and each was fined 500 RMB (about $ 70). When released, they were all forced to sign a statement of repentance, which reads: “You are not allowed to hold religious belief after returning home; otherwise, you will be given a prison sentence.”
100+ police officers raid Seventh-day Adventist church
To intensify their persecution efforts, the CCP started labeling regular house churches as xie jiao, the term earlier reserved for groups identified as banned “heterodox teachings.”
A Seventh-day Adventist house church in Neijiang city in the southwestern province of Sichuan was raided on October 19. More than 200 people, including government officials and police officers, came to the church, claiming that it was a xie jiao. Officers took photos of each believer present, ordered to cut off electricity supply to the building, and took some valuables from the church.
Four police officers dragged two church co-workers out of the residential building where the meeting venue is located, pushed them on the ground and beat them. The two believers, along with the church’s pastor and preacher, were escorted to a detention house for interrogation. They were released later the same day.
A week later, the church was raided again. This time, more than 100 officials and police officers blocked the entrance to the venue, forbidding anyone from entering. The officials confiscated the tables, chairs, audio equipment, and other church property, throwing Bibles into a trash can outside. The officials also ordered to weld the entrance to the venue and install a surveillance camera above it.
According to a congregation member, several churchgoers received calls from officials, who threatened to withhold the salaries of their children and grandchildren or impede their futures if the believers did not give up their belief.
Donation money looted, Bibles confiscated
On December 1, local officials, accompanied by the police, harassed a house church in Jiangxi’s Nanchang on the ground that it “was holding illegal meetings and disturbing public order.” They destroyed the church’s blackboard, seized Bibles and hymnbooks, and confiscated more than 800 RMB (about $ 115) of donation money.
“The government inverts justice and makes trouble out of nothing. It just wants to eradicate the church,” the man in charge of the church said with anger.
In late November, a meeting venue of the old Local Church in Sizhou town, administered by Jiangxi’s Dexing city, was sealed off for refusing to join the Three-Self Church. Since then, the congregation meets in a shabby bicycle shed.

Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! SUMMARY
=======
Douglas MacArthur (26 January 1880 – 5 April 1964) was an American five-star general and Field Marshal of the Philippine Army. He was Chief of Staff of the United States Army during the 1930s and played a prominent role in the Pacific theater during World War II. He received the Medal of Honor for his service in the Philippines Campaign, which made him and his father Arthur MacArthur Jr. the first father and son to be awarded the medal. He was one of only five to rise to the rank of General of the Army in the US Army, and the only one conferred the rank of field marshal in the Philippine Army.
Raised in a military family in the American Old West, MacArthur was valedictorian at the West Texas Military Academy, and First Captain at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he graduated top of the class of 1903. During the 1914 United States occupation of Veracruz, he conducted a reconnaissance mission, for which he was nominated for the Medal of Honor. In 1917, he was promoted from major to colonel and became chief of staff of the 42nd (Rainbow) Division. In the fighting on the Western Front during World War I, he rose to the rank of brigadier general, was again nominated for a Medal of Honor, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross twice and the Silver Star seven times.
From 1919 to 1922, MacArthur served as Superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, where he attempted a series of reforms. His next assignment was in the Philippines, where in 1924 he was instrumental in quelling the Philippine Scout Mutiny. In 1925, he became the Army's youngest major general. He served on the court martial of Brigadier General Billy Mitchell and was president of the American Olympic Committee during the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam. In 1930, he became Chief of Staff of the United States Army. As such, he was involved in the expulsion of the Bonus Army protesters from Washington, D.C. in 1932, and the establishment and organization of the Civilian Conservation Corps. He retired from the US Army in 1937 to become Military Advisor to the Commonwealth Government of the Philippines.
MacArthur was recalled to active duty in 1941 as commander of United States Army Forces in the Far East. A series of disasters followed, starting with the destruction of his air forces on 8 December 1941, and the invasion of the Philippines by the Japanese. MacArthur's forces were soon compelled to withdraw to Bataan, where they held out until May 1942. In March 1942, MacArthur, his family and his staff left nearby Corregidor Island in PT boats and escaped to Australia, where MacArthur became Supreme Commander, Southwest Pacific Area. Upon his arrival, MacArthur gave a speech in which he famously promised I shall return to the Philippines. After more than two years of fighting in the Pacific, he fulfilled that promise. For his defense of the Philippines, MacArthur was awarded the Medal of Honor. He officially accepted Japan's surrender on 2 September 1945 aboard USS Missouri anchored in Tokyo Bay, and oversaw the occupation of Japan from 1945 to 1951. As the effective ruler of Japan, he oversaw sweeping economic, political and social changes. He led the United Nations Command in the Korean War with initial success; however, the controversial invasion of North Korea provoked Chinese intervention. Following a series of major defeats he was removed from command by President Harry S. Truman on 11 April 1951. He later became chairman of the board of Remington Rand.
