The Grouse Nest at Atwater Landing, 1424 Gillespie Road for sale in Sooke BC.
The Grouse Nest at Atwater Landing is a spectacular oceanfront sub-dividable estate encompassing 33.8 hectares on the well-protected Sooke Harbour. With nearly a kilometre of shoreline offering easy access to the fertile fishing waters of the Pacific Ocean, this west-facing property is the epitome of a West Coast wonderland. Old growth and Arbutus forest is dissected by a meandering creek; orcas, eagles and other spectacular wild life cohabitate nearby; the Galloping Goose Trail welcomes cyclists and hikers to traverse the property.
Situated on a prime sunbathed peninsula with south, west and north exposure, the European-style lodge is a legendary property whose history dates back to the 1930s. With your vision plus expert renovation and interior redesign, the 15,000-square foot, 12-bedroom lodge could be transformed into a lavish single-family home, a luxurious resort for retreats or fishing expeditions, or perhaps serve as a community centre to a more extensive development.
Grouse Nest is located in Sooke, a thriving bedroom community just 40km from downtown Victoria. The area is currently undergoing a boom of residential and commercial development. Sooke supports medium-density mixed-use development, offering many opportunities and possibilities for this property, including the addition of a marina.
The Area
The District of Sooke is the region’s southwestern gateway to Vancouver Island’s rugged West Coast. Hikers flock to the famed Juan de Fuca and West Coast Trails. Campers book years in advance for picture-perfect sites in the many provincial parks that dot the coastline as far west as Port Renfrew. Daytrippers explore East Sooke Park and Roche Cove Regional Park, while others cycle and trek the Galloping Goose. Swimmers relish the cool fresh waters of Sooke Potholes and Matheson Lake. Fishing enthusiasts drop crab traps and launch their vessels from the harbour, and whale-watching boats frequent the surrounding waters. Foodies and travel-trendsetters are lured to the region’s acclaimed restaurants and resorts. Sooke has developed a reputation as a prime destination for adventurers and eco-tourists seeking immersion in West Coast splendour.
The Potential
The area adjacent to this property has undergone extensive research as preparation for potential development including midden archaeological and environmental impact studies, servicing statistics, projected demographics, neighbourhood planning, marketing strategy, and much more. Topographical and other detailed information is available for your consideration.
Grouse Nest at Atwater Landing is offered at just 6.98 million Canadian, substantially below current market value for immediate sale. Development possibilities and subsequent profit potential are exponential for this one-of-a-kind opportunity to own a portion of authentic West Coast paradise. Start dreaming up your boundless vision and submit your offer by July 15th at 4 p.m.

Books: Meet the People - Vancouver International Writers Festival - Hal Wake
Transcript and Descriptive Text:
00:00-00:19 - Close-up on Hal Wake, who is giving an interview to someone off screen. He is seated in front of a bookcase full of books.
Writing is a solitary activity. People sit in a room somewhere for four years, living inside their heads, creating worlds. The books go out. Reading is a solitary activity. People sit and read by themselves. What we do is create a place where readers and writers can come together
00:19-00:21 - Exterior shot of yellow banners announcing the Vancouver International Writers Festival. In the background, lovely trees with autumn leaves.
and talk about the ideas that are
00:21-00:24 - Shot of a discussion table. Two women and a man are discussing. They have microphones. The man is speaking.
in books. Because, when you come right down to it,
00:24-00:26 - Back to Hal Wake seated in front of a bookcase full of books. Fade out.
that's what books are about, they're about ideas.
00:26-00:31 - Back to Hal Wake seated in front of a bookcase full of books.
A book or an e-book is simply how that's delivered. The notion of

telling stories, that we need to tell each other
00:34-00:45 - Back to Hal Wake seated in front of a bookcase full of books.
stories, that that's the way we find out about other people, there's no other art form where you get inside somebody else's mind the way you do through, I'll say
00:45-00:49 - Shot of a white table holding books by Sarah Waters. Then the camera pans over shelves full of books.
a book, but through stories and texts.
00:49-01:10 - Back to Hal Wake seated in front of a bookcase full of books. On the screen we can read: Hal Wake, Artistic Director of the Vancouver Writers Festival. Fade out.
So, you know, in the end I'm not sure it matters how that's delivered, whether it's delivered over the Internet or through... Books will always be around, books are not going to disappear. But, there will be other ways for people to get that information. But, I don't think we'll ever stop telling stories.

Alice in Wonderland | Limited Edition – Folio Society Reviews
Please watch: New Books in: May | Mystics and Folio
--~--
Here is the Limited Edition of ”Alice in Wonderland” published by The Folio Society. The book is limited to 1000 copies and it’s illustrated by Charles van Sandwyk.
ABOUT THE BOOK:
”Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, or shortened, ”Alice in Wonderland” was written by the English writer & mathematician Lewis Carroll in 1865.
The story follows the young girl Alice and her extraordinaire experiences in Wonderland.
”The tale plays with logic, giving the story lasting popularity with adults as well as with children. It is considered to be one of the best examples of the literary nonsense genre. Its narrative course and structure, characters and imagery have been enormously influential in both popular culture and literature, especially in the fantasy genre.” [1]
I was absolutely amazed when I first read this book and buying this limited edition copy was not a hard decision to make after reading it. It really plays with your imagination and the dreamlike, nonsense state which this fantasy novella takes place in reminds me a lot of dreams and how the lack of logic makes things a bit wacky. The writing is simple and flows nicely. I highly recommend it to anyone, big and small!
BINDING & PAPER:
From the book:
This edition of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland has been composed in Founders Caslon types at The Folio Society and printed on Ambassador Cream Twin-wire laid by Smith Settle, Yeadon, West Yorkshire. The plates and the scraps have been printed on Olin silk paper by Napier Jones, London. The limited edition etching has been hand-printed under the artist's supervision by New Leaf Editions, Vancouver, Canada, on Somerset velvet buff 100% cotton mouldmade paper, and mounted on Hahnemühle Bugra Butten.
The endpapers have been printed letterpress on Bugra Butten by the Logan Press, Wellingborough, Northants. The book has been hand-bound in vellum blocked in 22-carat gold, with vellum tips and Freelife Merida sides, by Smith Settle. The edition is limited to 1000 copies, signed and numbered by the artist on the etching, and thirty copies numbered in roman numerals, which are hors commerce.
That sums up the book very good. The quality is of course absolutely top of the top. No doubt about that. Same with the wonderful illustrations by van Sandwyk.
The size is 13 x 9¾” or 33 cm x 25,5 cm.
CONTENT:
This book is lovingly illustrated by the Canadian artist Charles van Sandwyk. It has eleven coloured, tipped in plates and a bunch of other black & white illustrations and coloured ”scraps”.
It also contains notes from the publisher (Folio Society) and notes from the author. The book is of course divided by chapters.
I want to thank you so much for watching. Make sure to subscribe to my channel if you want more Folio Society videos and please like this video if you enjoyed it. Have a lovely day! :-)

Books: Meet the People - Alexander MacLeod
Transcript and Descriptive Text:
00:00-00:19 - Fade-in on Alexander McLeod reading a passage from one of his short stories. He is seated at his worktable. In the background, we see an old hot-water radiator and tons of books. The camera does a close-up on his hands, in one of which he is holding a pencil. On the bottom of the screen we can read Alexander McLeod, Author. Fade-out.
He came around a turn and a bad rut in the trail or a rock, or a bump, or some stump. Nothing special. It was the kind of thing that happens as swerving. He went one way, rolling down the bank, still holding tight to the bike. And she flew off in the other direction, straight into the trunk of a tree at 45 miles an hour.
00:19-00:38 - Shot of Alexander McLeod being interviewed by someone off-screen. He is seated at his worktable. Behind him, on the left of the screen, we can see a bookcase full of books. To the right are a bicycle and another bookcase full of books. When he mentions his short story collection, an image of the book appears for a moment in the upper right corner of the screen, then disappears.
My name is Alexander McLeod, and I wrote a collection of short stories a couple of years ago called Light Lifting. There's seven stories in that book, but it took me about 15 years to get to the point that they could come out into the world. So, it's been a sort of lifelong pursuit for me.
00:38-00:43 - Fade to a shot of Alexander McLeod and a printed page with pencil marks on it.
I sort of treasured my writing and kept it with me privately while I was working at school and getting a Ph.D.
00:43-00:51 - Back to Alexander McLeod being interviewed by someone off-screen. He is seated at his worktable. Behind him, on the left of the screen, we can see a bookcase full of books. To the right are a bicycle and another bookcase full of books.
And I teach at university, as you can see, so I have to mix my writing time with my teaching time
00:51-00:54 - Fade between two images of Alexander McLeod working at his desk and reading.
and my correcting time and my meetings
00:54-00:58 - Back to Alexander McLeod accordant being interviewed by someone off-screen. He is seated at his worktable. Behind him, on the left of the screen, we can see a bookcase full of books. To the right are a bicycle and another bookcase full of books. Fade-out.
and that sort of stuff, that people, anyone who's ever been to a university knows what that's like.
00:58-01:03 - Fade-in. Back to Alexander McLeod being interviewed by someone off-screen. He is seated at his worktable. Behind him, on the left of the screen, we can see a bookcase full of books. To the right are a bicycle and another bookcase full of books.
My advice to young artists of any kind is trust your style.
01:03-01:06 - Shot of Alexander McLeod in a classroom teaching. He is writing on the board.
Like, find it. Find it and then trust it.
01:06-01:12 - Fade back to Alexander McLeod being interviewed by someone off-screen. He is seated at his worktable. Behind him, on the left of the screen, we can see a bookcase full of books. To the right are a bicycle and another bookcase full of books. Fade-out.
Don't ever try to, don't ever try to be like anyone else because A-
01:12-01:16 - Shot of Alexander McLeod in a classroom teaching. We see him speaking to his students. In the foreground, to the left of the screen, we see a female student's back.
you can't do it and B- it's only going to frustrate you.
01:16-01:39 - Fade back to Alexander McLeod being interviewed by someone off-screen. He is seated at his worktable. Behind him, on the left of the screen, we can see a bookcase full of books. To the right are a bicycle and another bookcase full of books. At the bottom of the screen we can read Alexander McLeod, Author. Fade-out.
Your real stuff is going to be sitting there sort of at odds with what you're trying to do. So, once people get a hold of their, I'm not going to say their voice, but when they get a hold of how they want to do it, that's usually the most valuable, the most valuable moment I found with my students, you can recognize it. Because it becomes very easy and everything goes well after that.
