Macedonia Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Macedonia.
Macedonia is a young Balkan republic that is a combination of both Orient and Occident. Skopje is the capital of Macedonia and is located in the Vardar River Valley. It has a dramatic history that spans many thousands of years and forms the junction of two trading routes in southeast Europe that unite both western and eastern civilisation. The legacy of Ottoman times is omnipresent in Skopje. One of the city’s most well-preserved mosques is that of the Gazi-Isisa-Bey Djamia and in the seventeenth century it is believed that there were up to a hundred and twenty mosques in the city. Ottoman rule began in 1392 and lasted for more than five hundred years. Near the village of Glumovo is the Bogorodica Monastery that was founded in the fourteenth century and is active again today. The mediaeval frescos on the walls and ceilings are well preserved after five centuries. Southwest of Prilep is the ancient city of Stibera that is also known as Macedonian Pompeii. It is in a good location on an important road. The last Macedonian king, Perseus, had his military headquarters in Stibera during his struggles with Rome. In the south, just a few kilometres from the Greek border, is Bitola, at the foot of Pelister Mountain and on the edge of the fertile Pelagonija Plains. Buildings with Neo-Baroque and Renaissance facades, huge mosques and splendid diplomatic residences indicate the city’s importance. Macedonia is a wild land full of natural splendour and with a long and dramatic history that is well worth more than just a flying visit. Indeed, this visit also features a Galička wedding that is a fine example of colourful tradition and local culture.

Pella & Aegae - Macedonian Capitals
Macedonia is a geographical and historical region of the Balkan peninsula in southeastern Europe. Its boundaries have changed considerably over time, but nowadays the region is considered to include parts of five Balkan countries: N.Greece, the Republic of Slav-Macedonia, Bulgaria, Albania and Serbia.
Its oldest known settlements date back approximately 9,000 years. From the middle of the 4th century BC, the Kingdom of Macedonia became the dominant power in Greece and the neighboring regions; since then Macedonia has had a diverse history. The definition of Macedonia has changed several times throughout history. Prior to its expansion under Philip II, the ancient kingdom of Macedonia, to which the modern region owes its name, lay entirely within the current Greek province of Macedonia.
The Roman province of Macedonia consisted of what is today Northern and Central Greece, the geographical area of the present-day Republic of Slav-Macedonia the southeast Albania and the southwest Bulgaria. Simply put, it covered a much larger area than ancient Macedonia. In late Roman times, the provincial boundaries were reorganized to form the Diocese of Macedonia with capital Thessaloniki, consisting of most of modern mainland Greece plus Crete, southern Albania, and parts of modern-day Bulgaria and the Republic of Slav-Macedonia.
Aegae, 60km SW of Thessalonica, the first ancient capital of the kingdom of Macedonia, spreads over the low hills on the northern slopes the Pierian range, between the modern villages of Palatitsia and Vergina. This city was the most important urban center in the region until the 4th c. BC. Here were to be found the ancestral sanctuaries of the Macedonians, and the palaces and the tombs (with their famous treasures) of the Argead dynasty, which traced its origins to the mythical hero Heracles and gave Greek history its most captivating figure, Alexander the Great.
Pella was the second capital of the ancient kingdom of Macedonia, 40km NW of Thessalonica. A common folk etymology is traditionally given for the name Pella ascribing it to a form akin to Doric Greek Apella, originally to have meant a ceremonial location where decisions were made. However, the local form of Greek was not Doric, and the word exactly matches standard Greek pilla stone, undoubtedly referring to a famous landmark from the time of its foundation.

Republic of North Macedonia moots student, professor exchangeprogrammes with SRM Institute of Science and Technology
The Republic of North Macedonia has
proposed an exchange of students and professors with the SRM Institute
of Science and Technology to take the bilateral relationship to a new
level. Charge d’ Affaires, Embassy of North Macedonia, NehatEmini, on
Friday mooted the proposal in a meeting with SRMIST Founder Chancellor
Dr. T. R. Paarivendhar, MP, and President Dr. P. Sathyanarayanan.
Noting that the School of Public Health in SRM is one of the top 10
schools in the country, SRMIST President Dr.Sathyanarayan said, “I am
happy that Mr NehatEmini, Charge d' Affaires is with us today. The
sculpture and heritage of North Macedonia is very similar to India and
I hope we have pivotal trade and education connection between our
countries”. He said it was an honour and prestige that SRM School of
Public Health has been selected to do the NFHS-5. “Normally it is the
government who does such surveys but this has been passed on to a
private organization. This is a privilege for SRM to be designated as
a nodal point for this survey in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry”.
“School of Public Health is a multidisciplinary field as it involves
Management, Statistics, Biology and several other fields. We have all
these under one umbrella in SRM and we have to make use of these
facilities for this survey,” he said.
“I would like to invite students from India as well as professors for
exchange programmes to my country where we have very good professors
with good standing in Europe, as I am deeply convinced that our common
aim is to deepen cooperation in areas of our mutual interest,” said
the Macedonian official who was the Chief
Guest at the launch of the National Family Health Survey (NFHS)
Round 5 for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry at the SRM School of Public
Health, a nodal centre for implementing the survey. The project cost
is estimated to be around Rs. 9 crore.
Dean, SRM School of Public Health, Dr. Padma Venkat, said the North Macedonian capital was Skopje, thebirthplace of Mother Teresa, who had become a legend in India for her
missionary service to heal the sick and the poor. Significantly, North
Macedonia was highly rated on the human development index and had a
rich cultural heritage of music, art, dance and fresco paintings.
SRMIST Vice Chancellor Dr. Sandeep Sancheti called for timely
completion of the survey which would be greatly beneficial to society
at large. He said the SRM School of Public Health should excel in
carrying out its mandate given by the government to change the
perception that societal contribution of educational institutions is
not so strong.
Among those present were the Registrar Dr. N. Sethuraman, Deans and
Directors of SRMIST besides C Latha, Project Officer, Tamil Nadu,
International Institute of Population Studies which is the national
nodal centre for implementing the NFHS-5, Dr. J Allirani, Deputy
