Machida Squirrel Garden, Tokyo in 4K ????️Machida Risuen ????️ 町田リス園 ????️ Japan As It Truly Is
Want 200 instant friends ready to spend time with you? The Machida Risuen in Tokyo will have them eating out of your hands.
Machida Squirrel Garden (町田リス園) also has a large tortoise, some rabbits, birds, guinea pigs, and other small animals. You can buy small bags of sunflower seeds to feed the squirrels, but once they see the glove or mitten with the food, you are fair game and they have no problem climbing up you for some treats. Remember that they do have claws, plus teeth that can cut through a walnut shell, so be sure to wear the protective gear.
It would be better to wear a long-sleeve shirt, and If you are a lady, it would probably be a good idea not to wear a skirt.
The Machida Risuen is open from 10 AM to 4 PM (5 PM on Sundays & holidays Apr-Sep), closed on Tuesdays (except national holidays, then the following business day) as well as the 1st week in June, September & December on Tue-Fri. Also closed for New Year's on Dec 27th-Jan 2nd.
Entrance fee is ¥400. Sunflower seed bags are ¥100 each.

Closest access is by a 15-minute bus ride from the Odakyu Machida train station.

A TRIP TO MACHIDA SQUIRREL GARDEN
#blairvillanueva #japantravel
It was such an awesome trip with my friends to celebrate the beginning of Japan's summer season. We decided to pay a visit at this quaint petting zoo park called Machida Squirrel Garden, and I am so happy that we did! It was my first time to pet squirrels, although I admit we have to be extra careful not to stress them, or they get too excited and give us scratches (occupational hazard).
Full story if this trip will also be available in our blog

CAMERA & AUDIO EQUIPMENT I USE:
Camera: Sony RX100 M3 ►
Voiceover Mic: Samson Go Mic ►
In-Field Mic: Zoom H1 ►
Tripod: Manfrotto Pixi ►
EXPLANATION: I try to keep my equipment as simple as possible. 90% of the time, all I use to film is my Sony RX100 M3, and all I use for audio is my Samson Go Mic (which I use to record voiceovers after filming). Occasionally I use the Zoom H1 for audio if I want to record audio in-field. As for the Pixi tripod, I sometimes use it while filming food, but most of the time I use it to mount my Samson Go Mic on a desk for voiceovers (in conjunction with the other accessories, listed below).
MODULAR COMPONENTS I USE:
Smatree SmaPole S3 (hollow pole only) ►
Joby Action Arm (arm only) ►
Joby Hand Grip (hand grip only) ►
Joby Hub Adapter ►
EXPLANATION: Because I'm often traveling, I prefer to have the lightest, smallest, most versatile components available. Therefore, I use bits and pieces from the above gear sets, and these bits and pieces can be connected together in a huge variety of ways. For example, they can be made into a long selfie stick, they can be mounted to my tripod to make it extra-tall, and they can be used with my tripod and Go Mic to position the microphone directly in front of my face while I'm recording voiceovers at a desk.
MICROPHONE ACCESSORIES I USE:
Foam Mic Cover ►
Pop Filter ►
EXPLANATION: To improve sound quality for voiceovers, I place a mic cover on the Samson Go Mic, then use an elastic band to hang the pop filter on top. This is not the best audio protection available, but it is the most minimalistic and space-efficient gear for traveling. The mic cover can also be used on the rare occasion that I record audio with the Zoom H1.
GEAR I USE FOR CHARGING ON-THE-GO:
Anker Mini PowerBank ►
Silicone Cables ►
Adapter for Micro to Mini ►
Adapter for Micro to Lightning ►
EXPLANATION: Anker's lipstick-sized powerbanks are small yet powerful. I travel with two, so that if one has a low charge, I can charge it in my hotel while I'm out and about with the other powerbank. Using the powerbank in conjunction with the short, durable silicone cables and micro/mini/lightning adapters means I can charge just about any device while on-the-go.

Machida Squirrel Garden
A place where visitors can play with and feed squirrels in Machida (suburb of Tokyo) in Japan. This was a must see destination for my wife, who loves all animals, on our recent trip to Japan.
Video shot on a combination of an Olympus OM-D E-M5II and a GoPro Hero 2. Edited in iMovie on an iPad while riding the Shinkansen between Shin-Yokohama and Hiroshima.

Machida Squirrel Garden: Watch Squirrels Eat From YOUR HAND!!
Recently we had a chance to visit Machida Squirrel Park, which is quite a small park in terms of its area, but it is really a fun and unique experience for kids.
The main attractions are of course the squirrels, can kids can feed them sunflower seeds by hand using small mittens to protect from being clawed or scratched. The squirrels are pretty enthusiastic about taking seeds from your hands, and they will scratch you if you aren't wearing the gloves. My daughter happened to try to feed a squirrel with her non-mitten hand, and got a small scratch -- thankfully nothing serious.
In addition to the squirrels, there are lots of other animals in the squirrel park as well, including rabbits, turtles, some birds, and guinea pigs.
There's also a small but nice gift shop just adjacent to the entrance where you can buy stuffed animals (including squirrels!) as well.
While the Squirrel Park is really fun, you won't spend too much time there. Maybe a few hours at most. If you'd like to fill the rest of your day in the area, check out the neighboring Yakushiike Park, or the Botanical Garden which is also in the area. Neither have anything particularly entertaining for kids, but they are both good spots to get out and experience and learn about nature.

[Animals in Japan] 町田リス園 - Machida Squirrel Garden
Part 1/2 - Had to cut this trip into two parts because there is just too much cute i cant even! This episode we meet all the animals (guinea pigs, rabbits of all sizes, chipmunks, groundhogs, birds, ertc) and enter the squirrel area for some timid interaction. It's a bit overwhelming at first (scary says kelvin) but very quickly you are laughing and loving every second of it!
If you think this episode was cute, wait for part 2! its even cuter and crazier! Clearly all these animals are well fed and not the least bit scared of human contact!
Part 2: We get Squirrel Glomped...
Access: Pretty easy to find. Exit from Machida Station (Odakyu Line) North Exit. Go to Bus Stop #21, which is about 50 meters from the first railroad crossing.
Ride either the bus towards Nozutamachi via Honmachida (Route 55) (本町田経由野津田車庫行(55系統)) or towards Tsurukawa Station (Route 53) (鶴川駅行(53系統)). Get off at Yakushi-ike (薬師池) (about 20 minute ride) the bus automation voice will announce it. You will find the Squirrel Garden ahead on your right with the bright yellow signs. If you struggle just ask, its popular spot for families.
Price: 400yen (adults), 200yen (children)
