Sydney's Best Driving Roads - Macquarie Pass (Uphill)
Macquarie Pass is a 8 kilometre long section of the Illawarra Highway passing through Macquarie Pass National Park. It links the Southern Highland town of Robertson to the coastal town of Albion Park, descending the Illawarra Escarpment via a very narrow bitumen roadway, which has several single lane sections, and for the most part is two lanes with double no overtaking lines.This section of roadway is very steep, and contains a large number of hairpin bends.
Some general info:
- Located around 2hrs south of Sydney, near Albion Park.
- Very busy during peak traffic hours, and even outside of those times you need to be pretty lucky to get a traffic-free run of the whole pass. There's no restrictions in terms of driving through here so you will see trucks, school buses, caravans, you name it. As ever, best time for a traffic-free drive is early in the morning or at night.
- Be especially careful through the blind corners and the unmarked sections of road. As mentioned, trucks and semis do use this road despite the fact that it is dangerously narrow.
- Locals use this road for their daily commute and they don't appreciate it when the road is closed because of some idiot looking for cheap thrills. Please drive with care.
-Enjoy!

Unfortunately this video contains only about half the length of the pass as I ran into a whole heap of traffic. But the sections where I get some clear air were well worth it - awesome collection of twisties and I haven't seen a smoother road surface outside of a racetrack :)

{Jump Rock - Macquarie Pass National Park}
As part of the Macquarie Pass National Park. This is a beautiful walk taking in gorgeous bush and follows the rivulet up to Jump Rock. A series of cascades, rock pools and the famous jump spot. The walk can be steep in sections so ideally some average fitness will assist. The walk takes in a beautiful rainforests and there are great opportunities to take photos.

The City of Shellharbour is a local government area in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. The City is located about 100 kilometres (62 mi) south of Sydney and covers the southern suburbs of the Wollongong urban area centred on Shellharbour, and in 2013 had an estimated population of 67,797.
The area is bordered by the City of Wollongong to the north, with the boundary being the Lake Illawarra entrance (and the suburb of Lake Illawarra) and Macquarie Rivulet (Albion Park Rail). The Municipality of Kiama is to the south of the City of Shellharbour.
The area was discovered by Europeans Bass and Flinders in 1796. Free settlers began arriving between 1817 and 1831 and the township was founded in 1851. The Shellharbour (Municipal) Council was constituted on 4 June 1859, and was gazetted as a City in 1996. In May 2009, Shellharbour City Council celebrated its sesquicentenary.
Shellharbour City has many attractions for family entertainment and recreation. In Albion Park Rail there is a Light Rail Museum and steam trains, Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) Museum, and Albion Oval; a local sports ground. Shellharbour Village, the beach and playground are also popular attractions. Excellent fishing at Lake Illawarra and superb surfing at Warilla beach. A cycleway goes from Oak Flats to Barrack Point. The Macquarie Valley (Shellharbour) provides scenic views and also includes the Macquarie Pass National Park.

{Clover Hill - Macquarie Pass National Park}
This is a delightful little walk, not too long, easy trails and the remnants of an old dairy farm. I even found an old horseshoe. The reward on this trail are the multiple impressive waterfalls along the way, sturdy shoes and an ability to scramble around the waterfalls is a must to get the most out of this walk. The balancing rock is unbelieveable, if you're brave enough to stand underneath, the little amount of rock this thing is balancing on is amazing! There is a great little swimming hole at Mulangong Falls.

Great Driving Roads Australia The Wooton Way
The Wooton Way is a retired section of the Pacific Hwy on the mid north coast of NSW. Climbing up and down Mt Bulahdelah it was once a driving nightmare covered in trucks and caravans. Not any more !!!! Now it's just FUN and no I didn't edit out any of the other traffic. Sorry about the rattle in the camera. If you try listening with headphones you will hear the car better
