Al-Ula Treasures: How the site of Mada’in Saleh paved the historic Incense Route
Mada’in Saleh, also called “Al-Hijr” or “Hegra”, was the first Saudi site listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its huge historical significance.
Mentioned in the Holy Quran, many religions and peoples coexisted in its land for peoples of civilizations throughout history.
The area of Mada’in Saleh stretches about sixty hectares, and what is known on the surface is only a fraction of the treasures buried under the land. These immortal features made by the former Nabataeans who settled around this region between the first century BC and the first after AD are only the highlights of the civilization who ruled the land at the time.

Mada'in Saleh 2013-0039
Mada'in Saleh
is one of the best known archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia,
located in Al Ula (previously known as Dedan),
some 400 kilometers north of Al Madinah.
Mada'in Saleh was once inhabited by the Nabataeans some 2000 years ago,
Petra (located in Jordan) being the capital of the Nabataean kingdom.
The Nabataeans are of Arab origin who became rich
by their monopoly on the trade of incense and spices
in particular between the East and the Roman, Greek and Egyptian empires.
Mada'in Saleh has about 130 dwellings and tombs that extend over some 13 kilometers.
Tour in Mada'in Saleh, Saudi Arabia || One of the greatest attractions in the World
Madain Saleh or Al Hijr is located 22 kilometers to the north-east of Al Ula municipality of Al Madina Al Munawarrah province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at latitude 4726 north and longitude 5337 east, and it was called Al Hijr since the ancient times. It occupies a strategic position on the ancient trade route that links the southern Arabia, Mesopotamia, Levant, and Egypt.
The ancient trade rout in Al Hijr that emanates in the south of Arabian Peninsula divides into two branches, one heading to the north passing through Tabuk ends in Petra in Jordan, which was the political capital of Nabataea, while the second branch heads towards Mesopotamia through Tayma in the north of Arabia. This important strategic location has made Madain Saleh an important trading city of Nabataea and a significant economic destination for the trade caravans.
Madain Saleh is an ancient pre-Islamic archeological site in Saudi Arabia. It was the land of Thamud in the Wadi Al Qura, Valley of Villages, lying between Madina and Tabuk. Al Hijr is also known as Madain Saleh, the Saleh’s village. The site was mentioned in Torah (the old statement) of the Holy Bible, and the Holy Quran with reference to Prophet Saleh (PBUH). The Holy Quran stated that, the people of Thamud had met their doom because they refused the call of Prophet Saleh to obey God's Will after they slaughtered the she-camel that was sent to them as a divine sign from God.
Archeologists Views:
According to archeologists, Al Hijr was inhabited by Maeneans and Thamudians in the third millennium BC. Prior to them the place was occupied by the Lihyanite in the 9th century BC. Nabataeans invaded the state and subdued the Lihyanite, and used stone structure as their houses, temples and tombs. According to the found inscriptions, Nabataeans were the real builders of Al Hijr. Al Hijr contains a great deal of Maeneans and Lihyanites inscriptions that refer to Al Ula, Khoraiba and Hiania, as the oldest towns, dating back to around 1700 BC. Some of these places were destroyed by earthquakes according to the established literature. As for Al Hijr city's antiquities, they belong to Maeneans and the early Thamud traders, who had moved into it from the south of Arabian Peninsula.
In 2008, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee (WHC) agreed on Madain Saleh site to join the World Heritage List. Thus, the site has become the first archeological site in Saudi Arabia to be enlisted by the WHC of the UNESCO.
The remains of Madain Saleh show the remarkable work of its engineers. More than 131 big tombs were found carved out of huge sandstone mounds, standing singly amidst a world of wavy sands, but some of these are in a state of decomposition. When you arrive at this archeological city, to the west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, between Tabuk and Al Madina, around afternoon, you will see the scene of the golden hill behind it, far away is laid the Harat Awaired with its volcanic land. It is one of the most stunning scenes in the Arabian Peninsula. The names engraved on the landmarks belong to the local Bedouins tribes.

Madain Saleh ( مـدائـن صـالـح )_Saudi Arabia ( URDU / HINDI)
Mada'in Saleh (مـدائـن صـالـح) (Cities of Saleh), also called Al-Hijr or Hegra, is an archaelogical site located in the Sector of Al-Ula sector, within the Province of Al-Madinah in the Region of the Hejaz, Saudi Arabia. A majority of the vestiges date from the Nabatean Kingdom (1st century AD).The site constitutes the kingdom's southernmost and largest settlement after Petra, its capital. Traces of Lihyanite and Roman occupation before and after the Nabatean rule, respectively, can also be found.
Madain Saleh is a 5000 years old city of people of Thamuds (قومِ ثمود). ALLAH sent Hazrat Saleh A.S to preach them the true path. But they denied.
When ALLAH decided to punish them , He destroyed them by earth quake and lightning.
Thamuds were very strong and brilliant in carving out homes in the mountains.
Madain Saleh, Saudi Arabia (Travel Documentary) - Part 3
Madain Saleh is 50 kilometers north of the city of Al'Ula. According to Islamic scholars, Prophet Saleh was the son of Thamud. He came from Bani Ad. The Nabataeans built their homes on mountaintops and like the tribe of Ad, worshiped idols. God sent them Prophet Saleh who began preaching to them about one God. They told him that they would believe in him if he performed a miracle. They wanted to see the rock split in two and that they wanted a she-camel to come out of it. After the miracle, some of Prophet Saleh’s people believed and became his followers, although most continued in their disbelief. Eventually, they killed the camel and God destroyed the city.

Visiting SAUDI ARABIA'S Greatest Wonder, MADAIN SALEH ????????
Madain Saleh is arguably the greatest attraction (non-religious) for tourists visiting Saudi Arabia. Located close to the small northern town of Al Ula, this was the second largest city built by the Nabataeans after Petra over 2000 years ago. Its 131 tombs carved into the free standing rock of the Arabian desert is a sight to behold.

The Astonishing Mada'in Saleh Rock-Cut Tombs

Continuing on from our previous video, where Don discusses the amazing, and incredibly intricate artistic wonder that is the Kailash temple.
Continuing on this note, we felt it a good time to cover another incredible ancient wonder, and indeed set of rock cut temples, known as Mada'in Saleh.
Predictably a little shared enigmatic site, it is located within modern day Saudi Arabia.
Purportedly dating from the Nabatean kingdom, 1st century AD, it is the southernmost settlement after the better known, yet no less impressive, Petra, made famous by the Indiana jones epics.
In 2008, UNESCO proclaimed Madaʼin Saleh a site of “patrimony,” becoming Saudi Arabia's first World Heritage Site.
131 rock-cut monumental structures, said to have been built as tombs.
However, they were cut with such precision, their existence is clearly a mysterious one.
Very little is known regarding the ancient builders of these sites, the little we do know, was left on several mysterious and invaluable plaques, which adorn a select few of these rock cut structures.
Although the insides of the tombs appear to have been rather crudely finished, the outer exteriors are clearly phenomenally refined.
For a civilization, even a mere 2000 years ago, to have managed to create such precise structures, remains a tough thing for mainstream archaeology to explain.
Just like the many other sites, puma punka, giza, etc, etc… they display a far superior level of ability, to that of which we are led to believe.
And as always, mystery history presumes it is not the historic record which is incorrect, but rather the antiquity of these structures which is actually being hidden, their true age concealed, and attributed to a post cataclysmic civilisation… rather than their true creator.
…The Nabataeans, the academically claimed builders, were quite advanced for their chronological position within history regardless, supposedly having a strongly democratic society, sharing wealth and land equally amongst the tribe.
They also displayed an incredibly complex understanding of hydraulic systems.
The name “Mada’ in Saleh,” or the city of Salih, is also interestingly associated with a very ancient prophet, also named Salih, which is also connected to an ancient tribe, known as the tribe of Thamud.
Saleh is also the equivalent to a very ancient figure, mentioned within the Hebrew Bible.
The tribe of Thamud, said to be the descendants of the Biblical Noah...
However, the Thamud were also said to have become very corrupt, materialistic, and stopped believing in God. According to the accounts, this is when God sent prophet Salih to warn them that if they would continue in that way, they would be destroyed. A prophecy which eventually came true…
To this day, the remains of the ancient sites are considered by some to be cursed.
What do you think regarding the rock cut tombs of Mada In Saleh? Remnants left by a culture some 2000 years ago, with the use of copper and stone tools?
Or structures left by a far more advanced, far more capable, ancient people.
Whose entire existence is attributed to others, subsequently concealing it, here upon our planet.
Thanks for watching guys, and until next time, take care.

A Day in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia - All Things Fadra
Hey, guess what? I traveled all the way to Riyadh and then boarded a plane to explore the remains of the ancient civilization in Al-Ula, Saudi Arabia. From the music to the camels to the tombs to the near-death experience (it felt like it!) at the sand dunes, this trip to Al-Ula in Northwest Saudi Arabia was a once-in-a-lifetime trip. Hope you enjoy a glimpse of my day there!

Travel Saudi Arabia - Touring the Archaeological Site of Madain Saleh
Take a tour of Archaeological Site of Madain Saleh in Saudi Arabia -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Mada'in Saleh is a pre-Islamic archaeological site, and the first UNESCO World Heritage site in Saudi Arabia.
The site is a major part of the Nabataean kingdom, a civilization that existed around the 1st century.
The area is a collection of monuments and tombs to people pertaining to various social classes.
It is located at a great intersection of trade in Saudi Arabia, and thus many languages, writings and artistic styles are present at the site.
Due in part to the arid environment and no resettlement, the ruins at Madain Saleh are incredibly well-kept and preserved.
However, Madain Saleh has not become a great tourist destination because of the belief that it was cursed by Allah.
The rock-cut entrances, tombs and engravings are impressive enough to one day overcome the site's reputation.
