Mada'in Saleh 2013-0039
Mada'in Saleh
is one of the best known archaeological sites in Saudi Arabia,
located in Al Ula (previously known as Dedan),
some 400 kilometers north of Al Madinah.
Mada'in Saleh was once inhabited by the Nabataeans some 2000 years ago,
Petra (located in Jordan) being the capital of the Nabataean kingdom.
The Nabataeans are of Arab origin who became rich
by their monopoly on the trade of incense and spices
in particular between the East and the Roman, Greek and Egyptian empires.
Mada'in Saleh has about 130 dwellings and tombs that extend over some 13 kilometers.
Visiting SAUDI ARABIA'S Greatest Wonder, MADAIN SALEH ????????
Madain Saleh is arguably the greatest attraction (non-religious) for tourists visiting Saudi Arabia. Located close to the small northern town of Al Ula, this was the second largest city built by the Nabataeans after Petra over 2000 years ago. Its 131 tombs carved into the free standing rock of the Arabian desert is a sight to behold.

Madain Saleh ( مـدائـن صـالـح )_Saudi Arabia ( URDU / HINDI)
Mada'in Saleh (مـدائـن صـالـح) (Cities of Saleh), also called Al-Hijr or Hegra, is an archaelogical site located in the Sector of Al-Ula sector, within the Province of Al-Madinah in the Region of the Hejaz, Saudi Arabia. A majority of the vestiges date from the Nabatean Kingdom (1st century AD).The site constitutes the kingdom's southernmost and largest settlement after Petra, its capital. Traces of Lihyanite and Roman occupation before and after the Nabatean rule, respectively, can also be found.
Madain Saleh is a 5000 years old city of people of Thamuds (قومِ ثمود). ALLAH sent Hazrat Saleh A.S to preach them the true path. But they denied.
When ALLAH decided to punish them , He destroyed them by earth quake and lightning.
Thamuds were very strong and brilliant in carving out homes in the mountains.

Madain Saleh Al Ula Saudi Arabia ~ #MadainSaleh #Saudia #SaudiHistorical #OldSaudi #WelcomeKSA
Madain Saleh Al Ula Saudi Arabia. Al-ʿUla, also Al Ola, is a governorate of the Medina Region, and a city in north-western Saudi Arabia. Historically located on the incense route, the city lies within the Governorate of 'Ula, one of seven in the Medina Region, covering an area of 29,261 square kilometres.
Al Hijr or Madain Saleh is located 22 kilometers to the north-east of Al Ula municipality of Al Madina Al Munawarrah province in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia at latitude 4726 north and longitude 5337 east, and it was called Al Hijr since the ancient times. It occupies a strategic position on the ancient trade route that links the southern Arabia, Mesopotamia, Levant, and Egypt.
The ancient trade rout in Al Hijr that emanates in the south of Arabian Peninsula divides into two branches, one heading to the north passing through Tabuk ends in Petra in Jordan, which was the political capital of Nabataea, while the second branch heads towards Mesopotamia through Tayma in the north of Arabia. This important strategic location has made Madain Saleh an important trading city of Nabataea and a significant economic destination for the trade caravans.
Al Hijr or Madain Saleh is an ancient pre-Islamic archeological site in Saudi Arabia. It was the land of Thamud in the Wadi Al Qura, Valley of Villages, lying between Madina and Tabuk. Al Hijr is also known as Madain Saleh, the Saleh’s village. The site was mentioned in Torah (the old statement) of the Holy Bible, and the Holy Quran with reference to Prophet Saleh (PBUH). The Holy Quran stated that, the people of Thamud had met their doom because they refused the call of Prophet Saleh to obey God's Will after they slaughtered the she-camel that was sent to them as a divine sign from God.
Madain Saleh, Saudi Arabia (Travel Documentary) - Part 3
Madain Saleh is 50 kilometers north of the city of Al'Ula. According to Islamic scholars, Prophet Saleh was the son of Thamud. He came from Bani Ad. The Nabataeans built their homes on mountaintops and like the tribe of Ad, worshiped idols. God sent them Prophet Saleh who began preaching to them about one God. They told him that they would believe in him if he performed a miracle. They wanted to see the rock split in two and that they wanted a she-camel to come out of it. After the miracle, some of Prophet Saleh’s people believed and became his followers, although most continued in their disbelief. Eventually, they killed the camel and God destroyed the city.

Archeologists Views:
According to archeologists, Al Hijr was inhabited by Maeneans and Thamudians in the third millennium BC. Prior to them the place was occupied by the Lihyanite in the 9th century BC. Nabataeans invaded the state and subdued the Lihyanite, and used stone structure as their houses, temples and tombs. According to the found inscriptions, Nabataeans were the real builders of Al Hijr. Al Hijr contains a great deal of Maeneans and Lihyanites inscriptions that refer to Al Ula, Khoraiba and Hiania, as the oldest towns, dating back to around 1700 BC. Some of these places were destroyed by earthquakes according to the established literature. As for Al Hijr city's antiquities, they belong to Maeneans and the early Thamud traders, who had moved into it from the south of Arabian Peninsula.
In 2008, UNESCO's World Heritage Committee (WHC) agreed on Madain Saleh site to join the World Heritage List. Thus, the site has become the first archeological site in Saudi Arabia to be enlisted by the WHC of the UNESCO.
The remains of Madain Saleh show the remarkable work of its engineers. More than 131 big tombs were found carved out of huge sandstone mounds, standing singly amidst a world of wavy sands, but some of these are in a state of decomposition. When you arrive at this archeological city, to the west of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, between Tabuk and Al Madina, around afternoon, you will see the scene of the golden hill behind it, far away is laid the Harat Awaired with its volcanic land. It is one of the most stunning scenes in the Arabian Peninsula. The names engraved on the landmarks belong to the local Bedouins tribes.

Madain Saleh: One of Saudi Arabia's most stunning historical landmarks
Madain Saleh or Al-Hijr is a tourist landmark that Saudi Arabia is proud of.
This site precedes Islam and dates back to the Nabataean Kingdom. It constitutes its southernmost and largest settlement after Petra.
In 2008 Madain Saleh was selected as one of UNESCO's World Heritage Sites, the first of its kind in Saudi Arabia.
Madain Salehh is named after a prophet of Islam called Saleh.
Arab News visited Madain Saleh and toured its palaces and tombs.
Elephant Rock (Jabal Al-Feel) is located 7 Km east of Al-Ula.
It is a massive rock, 50m tall and characterised by its unique elephant-like shape.
Al-Hijr station is one of the Hijaz railway stations which used to link the city of Medina with the Levant. It is considered the second largest station train in Hijaz after Medina Station.
Madain Saleh was previously a thriving city because of its important location on the Incense Route linking Asia and Europe at the time.
Al-Ula Treasures: How the site of Mada’in Saleh paved the historic Incense Route
Mada’in Saleh, also called “Al-Hijr” or “Hegra”, was the first Saudi site listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site for its huge historical significance.
Mentioned in the Holy Quran, many religions and peoples coexisted in its land for peoples of civilizations throughout history.
The area of Mada’in Saleh stretches about sixty hectares, and what is known on the surface is only a fraction of the treasures buried under the land. These immortal features made by the former Nabataeans who settled around this region between the first century BC and the first after AD are only the highlights of the civilization who ruled the land at the time.
