MADISON: Museum of Contemporary Art
MADISON, WI - (CBS2/FOX28) Some refer to it as Mad Town, Lake City or even the Paris of Wisconsin. Whatever you call it, Madison is only about a three hour drive from The Corridor, but it feels like it's a World away.
Known for its classic skyline, and prominent view of the glistening white Wisconsin Capitol dome, there's one more building that's now gaining iconic status for its architecture. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art comes to a sharp point at the corner of State Street and North Henry and then its glass walls soar straight to the clouds. Just inside, the open glass staircase almost makes it appear visitors are walking on air as they're lured to three main galleries.
The moment you walk in the door, your eyes are immediately drawn to one of the most unique works you'll ever witness. Artist Jason S. Yi is behind Fragile Permanence. From a distance it appears to be snow covered mountains, but as visitors walk closer, they can see the illusion created by a wood frame covered in strips of white tape that fills the gallery wall to wall and floor to ceiling. What's so unique is Yi is creating art as you watch and he wants you to watch and even ask questions! Imagine interrupting Pollock or van Gogh to ask why they used blue instead of red? It also flies in the face of classic art that is considered 'suitable for framing,' because Yi intends for his creation to be destroyed! Along with dramatic pieces from our own Grant Wood and a collection of thought-provoking sculptures, it's well worth the three hours in the car and you'll be asking, are we there yet, for all the right reasons. The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art invites you to come along as we take you ROAD TRIPPIN' to Madison!

The 7 Most Beautiful Cities in The USA
The 7 Most Beautiful Cities in The USA
Charleston, South Carolina
A lovely historic coastal town, Charleston has sundry Civil War memorials and quaint colonial buildings dating all the way back to the 1600s. Its old-world aesthetic and ‘Gullah’ traditions make visitors feel as if they have stepped out of a time machine. Charleston also has beautiful beaches, famous golf resorts, and plenty of art galleries, for those looking for modern, rather than historical, amusements.
St. Petersburg, Florida
It might not get as much buzz as Miami, but St. Petersburg perfectly embodies Florida’s designation as the ‘Sunshine State’. Its warm, clear weather lasts nearly year-round. Which, given its other big draw, beautiful beaches, is great news. Those who want a little culture with their sand can visit the Salvador Dali Museum, which hosts the largest collection of his work in the western world.
Newport, Rhode Island
Unless you are a Rhode Island native or history buff, you may not be familiar with Newport’s refined offerings and upper-class pedigree. Formerly a favored spot of the iconic Kennedy family, Newport is world-renowned for its architectural landmarks and historic districts, many representing the latter 19th to start of 20th centuries’ Gilded Age here. The city is also considered a top-notch locale for sailing.
San Francisco
Despite some recent dramatic cultural changes, San Francisco remains one of the most beautiful cities in the U.S. The ‘City by the Bay’ is scenic and welcoming, with major landmarks, cultural attractions and streets lined with ornate Victorian homes. And there’s more, parks, stretches of sand, and picture-postcard views, with the Golden Gate Bridge serving as a constant romantic backdrop.
Madison, Wisconsin
Madison is a northern treasure. Besides a beautiful city skyline, it boasts impressive lakeside cycling trails that may make you forget you’re in a major city. The University of Wisconsin’s Bascom Hall on a warm summer day is one of Madison’s must-see sights.
Virginia Beach, Virginia
With miles of extraordinary coastline, Virginia Beach beckons avid surfers looking to tackle its impressive Atlantic waves. Its boardwalks offer mouth-watering restaurants and peaceful romantic scenery, a great evening follow-up to an idyllic beach day. The Busch Gardens amusement park is a great draw for vacationing families. Virginia Beach is located right near Jamestown, America’s oldest existing settlement.
Jackson, Wyoming
Jackson may seem small to visitors, but in America’s least populous state, it qualifies as a mini metropolis. A major gateway for millions of tourists visiting nearby Grand Teton National Park and Yellowstone National Park, Jackson is also well-known for its ski resorts. On the southeast edge of town lies a relatively small but challenging resort known as Snow King, Jackson’s original ski hill. More famous is the nearby Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. The large arches of shed elkantlers at the four entrances to the town square are popular attractions.

“Dangerous Women the Frost Museum FIU 2018
Dangerous Women: Selections from the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, which features different artists’ responses to the women of the Bible. FIU news
Summary of Exhibition
The Old and New Testaments are replete with female characters-good and bad wives, courageous heroines, and deceptive femme fatales. While some women saved their people, were paragons of wifely virtue, or repented their sins to pursue lives of virtue, others were purveyors of sin, harlots or hussies, or deadly temptresses and seductresses. Even if it was through their misbehavior, all of these women – from Judith and Esther to Salome and Mary Magdalene to Delilah, Lot’s Daughters, and Potiphar’s Wife, to name but a few – shaped biblical history.
Dangerous Women will present more than twenty paintings and etchings from the rich holdings of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. The exhibition explores women of the Bible as portrayed by 16th and 17th-century artists, including Pietro da Cortona, and Jan Saenredam. The exhibition will conclude with a modern and contemporary coda: Robert Henri’s sensuous Salome from 1901 and Mickalene Thomas’ Portrait of Madame Mama Bush 1, 2010, a reminder of the tenacious appeal of the subject.
This exhibition has been organized by The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art, the State Art Museum of Florida, Florida State University, Sarasota, FL.
Support for this exhibition is made possible through the FUNDING ARTS NETWORK, INC. and the Miami-Dade County Tourist Development Council, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Council, the Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners. FIU web Site

Water Dance 2014
Madison Contemporary Vision Dance
National Water Dance Day 2014
OBJECTIVES
Experiencing the power of dance to effect social change
Focusing on the need to create a national water ethic
Using the arts to build community
Bringing attention to the importance of arts in education
On April 12, 2014, National Water Dance is an evolution of the 2011 Florida Waterways Dance Project, a statewide, simultaneous, site-specific, performance presented at various water sites around Florida and live streamed on the Internet.
The premise for this project is to bring attention to environmental issues, specifically water, by creating community awareness through the arts. Every state, county, town in the US has a water issue whether it is drought, pollution, overuse etc. Each location will identify the most significant water issue affecting their community and through the creation of the site-specific performance event bring attention to their specific issue.

JAMES ROSENQUIST
Film by Eric Minh Swenson. Music by Sam Webster
James Rosenquist (b. 1933)
James Rosenquist is an American Pop Artist.
Born in Grand Forks, North Dakota, Rosenquist began studying art at an early age. As an only child, he moved with his family to Minneapolis where he won a scholarship to study at the Minneapolis School of Art (1984), and at the age of 21 he moved to New York City to study at the Arts Students League.
To earn a living, Rosenquist worked as a billboard artist from 1957-1960. His experience with commercial artwork provided a perfect launching pad for his characteristic Pop Art style. Advertising and pop culture infused his works. He was influenced by the monumental size of billboards to create room-scale paintings. His works explore commerciality, and are often provocative.
As a printmaker, Rosenquist was prolific. He is thought to have contributed heavily to the printmaking revival in 1965 through his work with lithography at Universal Limited Art Editions in Long Island, New York. Time Dust (1992) is thought to be the largest print in the world at 7 x 35 feet. He works with subjects like Coke bottles, lipsticked mouths, packaged foods, clocks, hands, and appliances.
Rosenquist's Florida home was completely destroyed in a fire in 2009. All of the paintings and prints that were stored in his home were lost, including works that were set for an upcoming exhibition.
Rosenquist has won numerous awards in the United States for his artist achievements. A retrospective of his work was displayed at the Whitney in 1972 and the Guggenheim in 2003.

Hip Hop Architecture: The Post Occupancy Report of Modernism | Mike Ford | TEDxMadison
The Hip Hop Architect explores how hip hop lyrics provide an evaluation of modern urban architecture and some of the areas where it went wrong.
Born and raised in Detroit, Michael Ford, The Hip Hop Architect, is the designer of The Universal Hip Hop Museum. He has dedicated his professional career to stimulating cross disciplinary discourse on the sociological and cultural implications of architecture and urban planning on its inhabitants.
Focusing on the intersection of the built environment and hip hop culture, through three interconnected realms; academia, media and practice, Ford’s national Hip Hop Architecture lecture tour has included stops at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, University of Pennsylvania, South by Southwest and his alma matter University of Detroit Mercy, where he received his master’s degree in architecture.
Ford has worked as a designer at Hamilton Anderson Associates in Detroit and at Flad Architects in Madison, Wisconsin. Michael Ford serves on the board of Detroit’s chapter of NOMA, The National Organization of Minority Architects and is currently a fulltime instructor at Madison College.

Learn a method of how to break a large goal into smaller, achievable steps. Artists have to wear many hats and setting good art goals is a step towards succeeding as an artist.
Dena Tollefson is an American artist whose bold contemporary paintings focus on joyful use of color, texture and movement.
Dena Tollefson (nee Dena Schaefer), born 1965, is a full-time, professional artist. Tollefson graduated from Iowa State University in 1988 and lived in Dallas Texas before returning to Iowa in 1991 where she developed her unique, highly textured painting style. She lives in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her husband and family.
Tollefson is represented in galleries nationally in New Mexico, Texas, Florida, Iowa, Wisconsin and Illinois.
Her Daubism body of work is a unique process she developed, where daubs of individually mixed paint are applied with a palette knife. The largest daubs are applied with a serving spoon, allowing ridges of paint which catch the light and appear to dance and scintillate as the viewer moves past the painting. Tollefson’s work focuses on botanicals, ponds, skies, and her Corn Series of work, biographies where people are depicted as ears of corn. Her work is highly tactile.
