Mae Hong Son Loop Day 1. Chiang Mai To Mae Sariang. Went To The Top Of Doi Inthanon
In today's Vlog, I started driving the Mae Hong Son Loop. Day 1 is from Chiang Mai to Mae Sariang. On the way, I drove to the top of Doi Inthanon, which is the highest mountain in Thailand. At nighttime, I got lost in the mountains and was driving around the jungle in pitch black darkness, without having any idea where I was.

Highest Mountain in Thailand - Doi Inthanon // Mae Hong Son Loop Day 4
The highest mountain in Thailand is located in the Chiang Mai province in the north of the country. It is called Doi Inthanon.
On the 4th and last day of my motorcycle trip (called the Mae Hong Son Loop) I visited that mountain. On the way down I hiked the Kew Mae Pan nature trail and on the way back to the city of Chiang Mai, I stumbled upon the beautiful Wachirathan Waterfall.

Day 4 Mae Hong Son Loop | Finding Authentic Homestays Northern Thailand
Today is day 4 on the Mae Hong Son Loop and we make the drive from Mae Hong Son to Mueang Pon Village. We originally planned to stay and explore Mae Hong Son but we talk to the visitor’s center and find a couple of Homestay opportunities a little further south. We are lucky enough to get some help from our Guest house and some kind police officers who call and confirm each homestay has a room for us. However, we still do not have any addresses, only a sheet of paper with two phone numbers and a tourist map with the village names circled on the map.
We are excited for the adventure and head off toward Mueang Pon but we have a couple of stops we are excited about first. We make a longer than expected drive over a very tall mountain to get to the Mae Surin Waterfall. The waterfall is the largest that we have seen yet in Thailand and it is set in a beautiful valley with the viewpoint just a short walk from the car park. We don’t stay long because it is after 1PM, we haven’t had lunch, and we have one more stop along the way.
We end up seeing a couple small cafes right on the edge of a rice field so we decide to stop for lunch. The cafe makes delicious coffee with the help of school children who are learning business skills. We then set off for the Bua Tong Fields. We were told by every local we talked to that we must stop at the sunflower fields so we are excited but still not sure exactly what to expect. WOW, the entire hillside is blanketed with sunflowers that are well above our heads. The view alone from the top is worth a stop but to see the field bright yellow all the way down the mountain is incredible. We are so happy we made the stop but it is starting to get late and we need to make it to town before dark so we can find our homestay.
We make into Mueang Pon a little before 5PM and stop at a convenient store to ask for help. We try a nearby place that is not our homestay so we then try to call our host. With a little help from some locals we are able to connect with our homestay host who is so kind and welcomes us to his home. We meet his wife and their two dogs and get settled in. We end the day with a walk around town and a sunset in the rice fields with a cold beer! We could not have asked for a better day!!
