Magaliesberg Canopy Tour - Johannesburg
The Magaliesberg Canopy Tour will take you on a two and a half hour tour down Ysterhout Kloof, situated in the Magaliesberg Mountains.
Eleven sturdy platforms, joined by long steel cables, have been carefully built against the rock faces of the kloof. Slide down the wires as you do for a foefie slide or zip-line, zigzagging while stopping at each platform, to take time out and admire the superb views.

My POV of the canopy tour experience in Magaliesburg, South Africa.
Situated in the heart of the Magaliesberg Mountains, only 1 - 1½ hours drive from Gauteng, at the renowned Sparkling Waters Hotel & Spa. The Magaliesberg Canopy Tour® is a unique eco-adventure that takes you on a journey through the ecology and geology of the second oldest mountain range in the world - estimated to be 2,400 million years old. 11 platforms have been constructed high against the rock faces of the spectacular Ysterhout Kloof (a nature wonderland carved out of the mountainside over millions of years), joined by 10 cabled slides up to 140 metres long and in places 30 metres above the canopy floor.

Ziplining meets Parkour: an epic adventure at Magaliesberg Canopy Tour
Parkour practitioner, Sbu recently introduced Roger to his latest addiction: ziplining and they got to share the #unzipAdventure thrill with Magaliesberg Canopy Tour.
Parkour is an exciting discipline that you can imagine movie stunt doubles using for the workout regime. Developed from military obstacle courses, the aim is for practitioners to get from point A to point B in a complex environment as fast and efficiently as possible (a lot like ziplining!). This includes running, climbing, swinging, somersaulting, vaulting, jumping and rolling.

Magalies Canopy Tour- Zipline
The Magaliesberg Canopy Tour is located in the Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve – 1 ½ hours from Joburg and 1 hour from Pretoria.
Eleven platforms have been built against the cliff and rock faces of the spectacular Ysterhout Kloof, a beautiful gorge carved out of the mountainside, and are joined by long steel cables that you slide along to reach the next platform. Much like a “foefie” slide, the canopy tour essentially involves zigzagging down the kloof while stopping at each platform to admire the expansive views and surrounding ecology.
The Magaliesberg mountains are home to a wide variety of plant, animal and birdlife – watch out for the shy klipspringer jumping from rock to rock below you or look up to spot an endangered black eagle circling above. Two trained canopy guides assure the safety of each participant while describing interesting facts about the indigenous plants, bird life, ecology and geology of the area.

Our Turbulent Past - Part 6
Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve – A series of illustrated talks by Vincent Carruthers.
The series presents a wealth of information on one of the most interesting regions of South Africa. The Magaliesberg Biosphere Reserve, that includes the Cradle of Humankind, was proclaimed by UNESCO in 2015. Biosphere Reserves strive to combine economic development with ecosystem preservation.
Our Turbulent Past traces the fascinating history of the Biosphere Reserve from the early origins of humans through the pre-colonial era until modern times.
