Barcelona Magic Fountain of Montjuic (Font Magica)
A combination display of water, music and light which was originally built in 1929. It was restored in 1992 and provides a spectacular show every half hour.
The Font Màgica, or Magic Fountain, is the main feature of a complex of fountains, cascades and pools on Avinguda de la Reina Maria Cristina, the street running from the Palau Nacional to Plaça d'Espanya in Montjuïc.

GB: Font Magica is described as a symbiosis of water, colour, and music. You can find it nr. Placa d'Espagna on the Avda. de la Reina Maria Christina right in front of the National Palace. The show can be watched some days of the week but depending on the month/ season. Wonderful to watch - also the street lined by numerous fountains - but pse. note that the music can only be heard when you are standing next to it! The kind of music is a matter of taste and I have used Rossini for the first half (when we were not that close) and in the second half you can listen to the original music. An optical show worth to enjoy when you are there!

Font Magica, the Magic Fountain is between Plaça d'Espanya and the Palau National in Barcelona. For the evening, a magnificent light show was promised. On arrival at the Plaça d'Espanya, we are looking for a restaurant because we have not eaten anything since breakfast. As we didn't see a restaurant at the Placa, we try it in the former bull ring.
The former bull ring is now a shopping center and in the basement we found a number of snack bars, but no restaurant. So went to the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. Here we find indeed a restaurant whose food was quite good, but the ambiance right next to the road is not particularly.
At nightfall, we first go to the roof terrace of Las Arena. We find an outdoor elevator that costs one euro per person. Once at the top, we enjoy the lovely view.
But to our surprise, here are the nice restaurants we had previously missed. Probably there is also a free lift somewhere.
The Magic Fountain was opened just before the 1929 World Fair. 3000 workers needed merely a year to complete it. The fountain exudes 2600 liters of water per second.
Prior to the Olympic Games 1992 it was completely restored.
The colored illuminated water pours out of 3600 nozzles, accompanied by music and provides a fascinating show of colors and sound. We are enthusiastic about the innumerable forms, designed by the water.

Font Màgica de Montjuic, der magische Brunnen liegt zwischen der Plaça d’Espanya und dem Palau National. Für den Abend wurde eine grandiose Lichtshow versprochen.
Wir haben seit dem Frühstück noch nichts gegessen, deshalb suchen wir nach unserer Ankunft an der Plaça d’Espanya ein Restaurant. An der Plaça können wir keines entdecken, deshalb versuchen wir es in der ehemaligen Stierkampfarena.
Las Arenas ist heute ein Einkaufszentrum und im Untergeschoss sind eine Reihe von Schnellimbiss-Lokalen, die uns aber nicht sonderlich ansprechen. Also versuchen wir es entlang der Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes. Hier finden wir zwar ein Restaurant, dessen Essen auch recht gut war, aber das Ambiente direkt an der Straße ist nicht besonders.
Bei Einbruch der Dunkelheit wollen wir auf die Dachterrasse der Arena fahren. Wir finden einen Außenfahrstuhl, der einen Euro pro Person kostet. Oben angekommen, genießen wir den wunderschönen Ausblick.
Doch zu unserer Überraschung sind hier die schönen Restaurants, die wir zuvor vermisst hatten. Vermutlich gibt es auch irgendwo einen kostenlosen Lift.
Der magische Brunnen wurde unmittelbar vor der Weltausstellung 1929 eröffnet. 3000 Arbeiter benötigten lediglich ein Jahr um ihn zu vollenden. 2600 Liter Wasser verströmt er pro Sekunde.
Anlässlich der Olympischen Spiele 1992 wurde er vollständig restauriert.
Das bunt beleuchtete Wasserspiel aus 3600 Düsen wird von Musik begleitet und liefert eine faszinierend Show aus Farben und Tönen. Wir sind total begeistert von den unzähligen Formen, die das Wasser gestaltet.
