The name Capul came from the word Acapulco, an old trading post in Mexico.
Capul is the only town in the province of Northern Samar with a distinct language, Inabaknon, instead of Waray-Waray. The Inakbanon is a unique language, due to few speakers, the language is highly endangered.
Magluyoan Beach had the clearest water, finest sand, and cleanest beach In all of Capul. The owners also plants large shady bitaog trees which protect you from the heat. There’s basic lodging at two places here and limited dining options but the Magloyuan couple can be convinced to prepare meals for you if you decide to stay several nights. It's a hidden gem. The place is not fully developed but camping is allowed. Sari-sari store available. The place has one toilet/ changing room. Day trip cottages available. Perfect weekend getaway just relaxing in the shore/shade under the trees/soak in the water under the basking sun. Would love to go back again and again and again and again.
Mode of transport in island is single motorcycle with experienced drivers. Must watch sunset by the Lighthouse.
Farola Series: Faro de Isla Capul (Capul Island Lighthouse)
Standing proud on the northern tip of the island town of Capul, Northern Samar is the lonely sentinel of San Bernardino Strait, the Faro de Isla Capul or Capul Island Lighthouse, one of the few remaining operational Spanish Era lighthouses in the country. Served as a guidepost for the Acapulco-Manila galleon trade vessels passing through the treacherous waters of San Bernardino Strait. It also served as the capital of Samar from 1848 to 1852.
The Capul Church, built during the Spanish Colonial Period. In 1781, Fr. Mariano Valero, a Spanish architect-priest led the restoration of the church and built the stonewall fortress similar to that in Intramuros, Manila that would fortify it against Moro attacks.
