Invisibles Magnus Theatre
INVISIBLES - Magnus Theatre is very proud to present INVISIBLES, a play about invisible disabilities, an umbrella term that encapsulates a spectrum of hidden disabilities.
INVISIBLES is a Collective Creation Project of Magnus Theatre’s Theatre in Education program created and produced with the generous support of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council. Teenagers from across Thunder Bay began working on the project in the fall of 2016, with the premise that theatre as an art form, using creative expression and community engagement, can be instrumental in bringing about transformative social change. The project aims to create awareness of the challenges people face. The play specifically examines autism, anxiety, depression and learning disabilities. In 2012, Statistic Canada reported that an estimated 3.8 million Canadian reported being limited in their daily activities due to a disability.
Invisibles spans two days in the lives of four high school students, who must face an unexpected event that throws them into turmoil. There is more to the students than meets the eye, though: each student has a living breathing invisible disability that shadows them, influencing their decisions, reactions and overall well-being.
Invisibles is based on the experience of local teens, giving the play an authentic youth voice that delivers an important message; just because something is invisible, doesn’t mean that it’s not real.

Magnus Theatre Here on the Flight Path
Magnus Theatre closes out its 2016-2017 season with Norm Foster’s Here on the Flight Path. Set on adjoining balconies in a big city apartment building, the play follows John Cummings (played by Stuart Dowling) as he interacts with three women, Fay, Angel and Gwen (all played by Amy Sellors), who become his neighbours over a three and a half year period.
“What an exciting season it’s been here at Magnus Theatre. We’ve had everything from a jukebox musical in Million Dollar Quartet, to most recently, literary drama with Of Human Bondage.” Said Thom Currie about the 2016-2017 Mainstage Season. “Norm Foster has provided, consistently, plays that Thunder Bay love. A perfect way to end the season. “
For the final show of the season, Dowling plays a 'back porch philosopher' who - over the span of three and a half years - has conversations with three neighbors from his balcony. One is an aspiring country singer, one is a divorced homemaker, and the other indulges in the world's oldest profession.
The play sees a pair of Magnus veterans returning to the stage. Dowling, an award winning performer who has performed across Canada, is a longtime favourite of Magnus audiences, having appeared in Driving Miss Daisy and Night of the Living Dead. Sellors, herself an award-winning actor who has appear ed in theatres across Canada (including multiple seasons at the Stratford Festival) appeared at Magnus in Looking and Don’t Hug Me.
Bringing the adjoining balconies to life will be Set Designer Doug Robinson, Lighting Designer Kirsten Watt and Costume Designer Lisa Loveday. Gillian Jones returns as Stage Manager.
Don’t mess this show that the Montreal Gazette said “Keeps audiences in fits in laughter” and the Halifax Herald called “A well crafted exploration of modern-day relationships.” Here on the Flight Path opens Monday April 10th and closes on Saturday April 22nd, with the Gala performance taking place on Thursday April 13th.
Production Schedule for Here on the Flight Path.

Danny Johnson - Live at Magnus Theatre
This is the official first test release of a live concert featuring Danny Johnson and others. Theymedia did the live test to feel out technical issues for future work with Magnus.
Was a lot of fun even though our second angle camera didn't arrive in time, (a new Sony.) We learned everything we needed to.
We had a junior camera man on one of our angles who left the footage at his camera at 23.976 FPS rather than 29.97 FPS if you notice one angle is a little soft compared to the other two. That's why we do these things.
Special thanks to our union audio guys who killed the sound. I mixed in a bit of live ambience into it to make it seem like you were there, don't kill me! Thanks again.

Building Bridges - Ghetto Children - YAAP Culture Days Ontario (Music Video)
Ghettochildren is a collective comprised of many talented musicians and artist's in Thunder Bay Ontario Canada. This particular video features the lyrics and concept of Jack Belhumeur accompanied by the music of Jayven Meekis and arranged and mixed by Benjamin Murray (Planbstrik9) lyrics by (in order of appearance) Jamie Labrador (Chorus and intro/outro) Jayven Meekis (first verse) B the Wiz - Brandon Rodegheiro (second verse first half) Mc OCO - Cody Desmoulin (second verse second half) and Planbstrik9 - Benjamin Murray (last verse) This video was produced in cooperation with YAAP (Youth Arts Ambassador Program) and there many sponsors for the city of Thunder Bay's Culture Week festivities. It was premiered at Magnus theatre on the 29th of September 2018. It tells the tale of 2 communities tied together through families and hardships, suffering and prosperity. The bridge linking fort william first nation was burned and made inoperable several years back and since that time there has been an ongoing dispute between the CN rail the city and fort william first nation about who foots the bill for a new bridge. In that time people have lost there lives due to the re-routing of traffic onto highway 61. This very symbolic event, the burning of the bridge gave us a perfect vessel to convey our feeling about race, culture, equality, justice and unity for all of us here on Earth. The video was filmed over several weeks in several locations including a youth workshop at the Evergreen United youth center and on location at the bridge in question. May our message reach you. Wa'lalin/Meegwetch/Thank you.

MIGRATION PATHS - Magnus Theatre's 2018 Collective Creation Project
MIGRATION PATHS is part documentary theatre, retelling the stories of newly-landed Syrian teenagers in Thunder Bay, and part fiction based on real life accounts. The play follows three characters that must leave their home in search of a safer place, and the dramatic journeys that they embark on to get there. MIGRATION PATHS challenges audiences to consider: what if their story was your story?
The Collective Creation Project is an annual cooperative effort with Magnus Theatre and local high school students. With the guidance of professional theatre staff, students from across the city come together to write a play on a social issue affecting Thunder Bay. Students are involved in all aspects of the creation of the play, from writing to acting and production.
MIGRATION PATHS is possible in part by generous funding from the Ontario Arts Council - Conseil des arts de l'Ontario's Artists in Communities and Schools program, and the United Way of Thunder Bay's Youth 4 Community program. MIGRATION PATHS is presented in conjunction with the Thunder Bay Multicultural Association.
