Magong Walking Tour (Penghu, Taiwan)
Magong, sometimes Romanised as Makung, is Penghu's only city with around 60,000 residents.
Guanyin is a Buddhist temple named after and dedicated to the Goddess of Mercy. It sits on the west coast in downtown Magong facing Siyu Islet and is one of the oldest temples in Penghu. Over the years a large sea-side park called Guanyinting, which includes basketball and tennis courts, a playground and a sheltered bay for swimming, has been built around the temple.
Standing over the bay and joining the park’s ocean walkway is the Rainbow Bridge, probably one of the most iconic monuments in Penghu. The bridge lights up each night sending ripples of colour across the bay.

Magong Airport in Penghu recognized as challenging place to land
Magung Airport, where the crash occurred, has been a boon to Penghu’s tourism sector. But experts say that its geographic location creates many challenges for pilots. Penghu’s beautiful natural setting and its annual fireworks festival were big draws in the first half of the year, when 17,000 aircraft carrying more than 1 million people landed at Magong Airport. At the key moment just before landing, at about 100 meters in the air, pilots have to see the runway. Otherwise they should pull up and go around.Magong Airport has international-class equipment to ensure flight safety. Even with the challenges, there have been few accidents, which is why Wednesday’s crash came as such a shock to the aviation sector.
