He does not eat food or drink water for nearly nine years since Shiva came before him and gave him the gift to live 500 years.

Mahadeva Malai is one of the beautiful temple of Lord Shiva located at the top of the mountain which is single stone on the way from Vellore to Gudiyattam. There lives a Siddha on this hill who has stopped eating for several years - Mahananda Siddha. Apart from thiruvanna malai this is next place to visit.
