#Hampi #KarnatakaTourism #StepsTogether
Lakshmi Narasimha (Ugra Narasimha) Idol
We left Krishna temple complex at 4.10 PM and headed towards the popular Lakshmi Narasimha statue. This huge idol is easily noticeable from the main road itself. The iconic monolithic idol is the largest statue in Hampi. The idol is damaged majorly so much so that people often call it as Ugra Narasimha even though it is a representation of Lakshmi Narasimha.
The original idol had the image of Goddess Lakshmi sitting on the lap of Narasimha. But, the idol of Lakshmi had been completely demolished during the fall of Vijayanagara dynasty and thus making the impression of Ugra Narasimha. It is said that even now we can see the hand of Goddess Lakshmi idol resting on the back of Narasimha. But, you cannot see this because entry inside the enclosure is restricted.
Badavi Linga
Next to Lakshmi Narasimha idol, you can find the largest Shiva Linga of Hampi known as Badavi Linga. It is also housed in a small chamber with only one opening at the front. The Shiva Linga is very big and lower portion of the linga is always submerged in water. It is believed to be constructed by a poor woman hence the name Badavi Linga (Badavi means poor lady in Kannada). We left Badavi Linga at 4.30 PM and headed towards Royal Enclosure.
Queen’s Bath:
After visiting Badavi Linga idol, we headed towards Royal Enclosure. On the Royal Enclosure side of Hampi, the first attraction you will get to see is Queen’s bath.
This is the place where queen used to take bath. However, many theories decline this and suggest that it is a place used for recreational activities. Whatever be the case, it is a beautiful structure one cannot miss. It has an empty pond in the middle and a beautiful open pavilion with small windows. There are steps on one side through which one can get to the pond area. We spent time there till 5 PM and headed further towards the Royal Enclosure area.
Mahanavami Dibba:
The first structure you get to see in the Royal Enclosure is the huge Mahanavami Dibba. Mahanavami Dibba is a large stone platform built by Krishna Devaraya of Vijayanagara dynasty to celebrate his victory over Udayagiri. The structure is more beautiful than you see in the photos. When I Had a look at the photo of this place before visiting, I did not find it interesting at all, but the reality is quite different.
You need to climb about 25-30 big steps to reach the top. The side walls of the platform have a well-carved array of sculptures. At the top, there is nothing except a big plain stage. This is from where kings used to watch the march past of the army, cultural celebrations during Dusshera, sword fights, and other cultural activities. Now, if you go on top and have a look, you can find the ruins of the Royal Enclosure. Though it is sad to see the renowned town in such condition, never miss to sit there for some time and imagine the glorious past of the place. At the backside of the platform also, there are steps to climb. You can climb up from the front steps and climb down using the rear steps to cover the structure completely.
Stepped Tank:
From Mahanavami Dibba, we walked towards the stepped tank which is in the same enclosure. This stepped tank was excavated in the 1980s and is one of the beautiful water tanks. Well maintained by the ASI, the tank has steps in the formation of pyramids next to each other making it look elegant. The water of this tank was believed to be used for religious purposes. Next to this tank is the public tank. This is a bigger and normal looking tank. There is no water in the public tank currently. Apart from these, there is a king’s audience hall in this royal enclosure.

Royal Enclosure including Hazara Ramchandra Temple and Mahanavami Dibba, Hampi
Royal Enclosure encloses the Hazara Ramachandra Temple, the Mahanavami Dibba among other structures. It is the description of our visit to these edifices in Hampi, Karnataka.
True Story of Hampi - Hindi
Hampi is located at Bellary in Karnataka on the banks of the river Tungabhadra.
Hampi was the capital of the medieval Hindu kingdom of Vijayanagar empire, and is now only present in the form of ruins.
History of Hampi begins with the first century. At that time there was a workplace of Buddhists around it.
Later, the Vijayanagar Empire was established in 1336 by Harihar Rai and Bukka two brothers.
The Vijayanagar Empire was a very rich and rich state.
This empire was very dreamy and prevailing under the rule of Lord Krishna. The highly intelligent Tenaliram was in his court. Most of the monuments of Vijayanagara were constructed by Krishna Deva Raya. The empire expanded to existing areas of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra.
But the invasion of the Mughals destroyed the Vijayanagar empire and Hampi also became a ruin. Muslim states of Bijapur, Golconda, Ahmednagar and Bidar jointly invaded Vijayanagar in 1565. The Vijayanagara Empire was badly defeated in this battle. After that the Mughal forces destroyed this beautiful city.
In the mythological treatise Ramayana, Hampi has also been mentioned as the capital of the monkey kingdom Kishindha. Perhaps this is the reason why there are many monkeys here.
Here every year about 1.5 million tourists visit and
Virupaksha Temple is the main place here. In 1509, during his anointing, Krishna Deva Raya constructed it.
The main attraction of the Vithal temple is its pavilion wall and stone chariot.
They are known as musical pillars, because of the love of music, it gets out of love. It is said that its wheels roamed, but the cement coating has been applied to save them.
Rani's bathroom located in Hampi is closed from all sides. This 15 m² bathroom has a gallery, veranda and Rajasthani balcony. This bathroom is surrounded by surroundings and is open from above.
The nearby Budava Peninsula is surrounded by water, because the canal passes through this temple.
Hampi Lakshmi Narasimha Temple is made up of tall rocks; it is the tallest statue of Hampi. It is about 6.7 meters high.
Hazara Ram Mandir was considered as the private temple of the King of Hampi. The interior of the temple and the exterior walls have been well-appointed.
The Kamal-shaped two steped palace located in Hampi and its Munder Palace attracts tourists.
The archaeological department's museum located in Kamalapur is a conglomeration of many ancient idols and handicrafts. All the handicrafts in this area can be seen here.
Hampi's elephant is stuck with the Genan area. Eleven elephants could live together in each of its chambers. This is a fine example of Hindu-Muslim art formation.

Hampi - Secret Council Chamber
The Secret Council Chamber is reputedly the place where the king gathered his most important nobles to discuss matters of politics and war, and is located approximately 100m south of the Hazara Rama Temple.
One can easily miss the secret council chamber and walk straight past without realising it is there. Set below ground level, it can only be noticed when you walk right up to it, unless you know it's there of course. The roof has collapsed and thus the main chamber is open to the elements, but three of the four walkways are still undercover. A small but discreet entrance is located on the north side. The passageway is relatively narrow.
Once down the steps into the first passage, a remarkable thing occurs. When one turns the first corner, the passageway is so dark that you do not notice another passage entrance to the left, and when you walk around all the passageways one is left rather confused as to where it leads. It's a remarkable design where the final passageway runs parallel to the first one.

Hampi Utsav 2020 | Kadalekalu Ganesha, Sasivekalu Ganesha | Virupaksha temple
Hampi tourist places Episode 3: In this 3rd episode of Hampi Sightseeing, we are covering Beautiful view from Hemakuta Hills proceeding towards Sasivekalu Ganesha and Kadalekalu Ganesha and ending with Krishna temple.
Hemakuta Hill is one among the best places in Hampi to see the sunrise and sunset; and not as tedious to reach the top say compared to the Matanga Hill nearby, which is boasted as the best location to watch sunset in Hampi. So if you find it difficult to make it to Matanga Hill for sunset view, try from Hemakuta Hill.
Number of temples in this area are dedicated to Lord Siva, the major one being the Virupaksha temple at the north of this hill. This place packed with the largest number of pre Vijayanagara temples. Atop is the Moola Virupaksha Temple with a pool infront, considered to be the original Virupaksha Temple
You can access it mainly through two ways. The first is through the tower located close to the Virupaksha temple’s main entrance. From the very end of the Hampi Bazaar that terminates in front of the Virupaksha temple, take the left (southward) alley. You can see the giant but topless tower to the hilltop. On the way you see the Hampi post office on your right.
The second access point is through the twin storied archway located near the Sasivekalu Ganesha & Kadalekalu Ganesha shrines. The top locations near this archway is a great place to get an aerial view of the Krishna Temple campus just south of it; and the Lakshmi Narasimha & Badivilinga shrines located beyond the Krishna temple.

HAMPI | VIJAYANAGARA EMPIRE | AERIAL VIEW | INCREDIBLE KARNATAKA
Hampi, also referred to as the Group of Monuments at Hampi, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in east-central Karnataka, India.[1] It became the centre of the Hindu Vijayanagara Empire capital in the 14th century.[2] Chronicles left by Persian and European travellers, particularly the Portuguese, state Hampi was a prosperous, wealthy and grand city near the Tungabhadra River, with numerous temples, farms and trading markets. By 1500 CE, Hampi-Vijayanagara was the world's second-largest medieval-era city after Beijing, and probably India's richest at that time, attracting traders from Persia and Portugal.[3][4] The Vijayanagara Empire was defeated by a coalition of Muslim sultanates; its capital was conquered, pillaged and destroyed by sultanate armies in 1565, after which Hampi remained in ruins.[2][5][6]
Located in Karnataka near the modern-era city of Hosapete, Hampi's ruins are spread over 4,100 hectares (16 sq mi) and it has been described by UNESCO as an austere, grandiose site of more than 1,600 surviving remains of the last great Hindu kingdom in South India that includes forts, riverside features, royal and sacred complexes, temples, shrines, pillared halls, mandapas, memorial structures, water structures and others.[7] Hampi predates the Vijayanagara Empire; there is evidence of Ashokan epigraphy, and it is mentioned in the Ramayana and the Puranas of Hinduism as Pampaa Devi Tirtha Kshetra.[2][8] Hampi continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple, an active Adi Shankara-linked monastery and various monuments belonging to the old city.
Hampi is situated on the banks of the Tungabhadra River in the eastern part of central Karnataka near the state border with Andhra Pradesh. It is 376 kilometres (234 mi) from Bangalore, 385 kilometres (239 mi) from Hyderabad and 266 kilometres (165 mi) from Belgaum. The closest railway station is in Hosapete (Hospet), 13 kilometres (8.1 mi) away. During the winter, overnight buses and trains connect Hampi with Goa, Secunderabad and Bangalore.[10] It is 140 kilometres (87 mi) southeast of the Badami and Aihole archaeological sites

Hampi - King's Balance
Just outside the Vitthala Temple the King's Balance is situated on the main path towards Hampi centre.
As stated in the video, the king would sit on a seat on one side of the balance, which was placed through the stone hoops at the top, and on the other seat gold, silver, gems and other precious objects would be placed to match the weight of the king.
This was thought to have been carried out on special occasions, like an eclipse, and the items then distributed among the priests.

Steps Together present the trailer of the new vlog series, Hampi - A Time travel.
Hampi is one of the most popular destinations in India. Situated on the banks of Tungabhadra river in Ballari district of northern Karnataka, the place attracts a huge crowd from all over the world. Hampi was the glorious capital of mighty Vijayanagara empire in the 13-14th century. Historical stories state that Hampi was a very prosperous and wealthy town filled with extraordinary temples, farms and trading markets. By 1500 CE, Hampi-Vijayanagara was the world’s second-largest medieval-era city after Beijing, and probably India’s richest at that time.
The Vijayanagara empire was defeated by the Muslim Sultanates in the 15th century. The precious monuments and temples were destructed very badly during the fall of the Vijayanagara empire. The Archaeological Survey of India conducted excavation in the area and the results can now be seen in the form of ruins of this great empire. The group of monuments of Hampi is declared as UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986 and the monuments are well preserved.
Surrounded by hills filled with huge boulders, lush green agricultural lands, ancient priceless monuments at each and every corner of the town, Hampi is a must visit place in India. The rich temples are scattered all around the town and need proper planning to avoid missing any of the attractions.
The Tungabhadra river broadly classifies Hampi into two parts – 1) Hampi center side (Kamalapura side) and 2) Anegundi side. Hampi center side contains almost all the tourist destinations and is usually filled with tourists. Anegundi side is on the other side of Thungabhadra river and is usually less crowded. It is often called the hippie island.
The major Hampi center attractions (the one on the Kamalapura side) can be grouped as follows. The places within each group can be covered by walk:
Group 1 – Hampi Bazar, Virupaksha temple, Hemakuta Hill temples, Sasivekalu Ganesha, Kadlekalu Ganesha, Monolithic bull, and Krishna temple.
Group 2 – Ugra Narasimha and Badavi Linga (these are on the way from Royal enclosure to Virupaksha temple)
Group 3 – Royal Enclosure (Queen’s bath, Mahanavami Dibba, King’s Audience Hall, Stepped Tank, and Public tank), Hazara Rama Temple, and Zenana Enclosure (Basement of queen’s palace, Lotus Mahal, Elephant’s stables, and watchtowers)
Group 4 – Monolithic Bull, Mathanga Hill, and Achyutaraya temple
Group 5 – Vittala Temple complex
On the Anegundi side, the main attractions are Anjanadri Hill, Gagan Mahal, and Sanapura Lake.
