Visitant ce beau temple construit à la fin du XIXième siècle, le gardien nous a entonné un chant tout en nous fournissant des explications. Il ne parlait pas du tout fort, mais l'acoustique assez exceptionnelle de cette salle amplifiait ses paroles qui étaient aussi prolongées par un écho très puissant.

Ganga Talao (commonly known as Grand Bassin) is a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area in the district of Savanne, deep in the heart of Mauritius. It is about 1800 feet above sea level. The first group of pilgrims who went to Ganga Talao were from the village of Triolet and it was led by Pandit Giri Gossayne from Terre Rouge in 1898.
It is considered the most sacred Hindu place in Mauritius.
The Sagar Shiv Mandir is located on the bank of the lake and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. There are temples dedicated to other Gods including Lord Hanuman, Goddess Ganga, and Lord Ganesh along the Grand Bassin. During Shivaratri, many pilgrims in Mauritius walk bare feet from their homes to the lake.
Clemencia: un temple unique à Maurice
Les villages de Maurice recèlent parfois de trésors insoupçonnés. Ainsi au pied de la Montagne Blanche, se trouve le village de Clemencia, au milieu des bananeraies et des champs d’ananas. Tout au bout du chemin, il y a un temple tamoul, bâti entre 1856 et 1859. Dédié au dieu Muruga, l’Aroul Migou Dhandayoudhabani Swami Kovil, est érigé, conformément à la tradition tamoule reconnaissant ce dieu comme le Seigneur des sommets mais, à la différence des autres temples du pays, celui-ci est construit en pierres taillées. Un caractère unique qui mérite le détour.
