We stood directly below massive planes as they were landing and experienced the strong jet blast blowing everyone over as the planes took off the runway! Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. BOEING 747 low LANDING above THE BEACH - St Maarten and Maho Beach (4K)
Boeing 747 low landings at St Maarten - Those were the days. KLM used to operate at least three weekly Boeing 747 flights from Amsterdam to St Maarten and sadly they stopped operating these flights cause the Airbus A330-200 is much more efficient on this particular route. It was a very sad moment for all aviation enthusiasts around the world when KLM officially announced the end of the Boeing 747 operations at Saint Maarten. Another Boeing 747 operator which frequently passed Maho Beach used to be Corsair but they also replaced the Boeing 747 with an Airbus A330-200 in their Orly flights. Currently even Air France reduced the flights for Paris from an Airbus A340 to an Airbus A330.
Doesn` t change the fact that Maho Beach is on of the most amazing beaches in the world if you are interested in aviation. It` s definitly the biggest tourist attraction on the island and I am pretty sure we will return to this beautiful island one day.

Amazing St Maarten Airport Maho Beach Jet Blast
The best of St Maarten! That sand from the jet blast on Maho beach in St Martin (as some people say) stings if you're on the beach, the sand coming up and having a grate affect on yourself. We bring you the most amazing aircraft captured on camera, some short take offs, some low approaches and awesome landings by aircraft as big as the Airbus A330 and the Boeing 757.
American Airlines is first taking off on runway 10 and a wet jet blast from a jet blue A320. Be careful not to stand right behind the engines for too long due to the exhaust fumes.
We stayed at Sonesta Resorts, mainly Ocean Point which has great views of the airport. KLM comes into land every now and then, they used to have the 747 jumbo landing here but it's now stopped.

Princess Juliana Airport Saint Maarten planespotting on Dec 25 2019. Busy day for air traffic. Great crowd at Maho Beach to enjoy the scenery of aircraft taking off and lading while at the beach.
Some are at Sunset Beach Bar and restaurant enjoying the cocktails while looking at the fabulous approaches to Princess Juliana Airport.
Some are holding on the the airport fence experiencing the thrill of the jet blast from the departing traffic at SXM or TNCM airport.
Most traffic are from the US and Canada with major airlines like JetBlue, Delta, United etc and a lot of private jets at this time of the year.
Some of the folks at beach are also from cruise ships on schedule layover to St Maarten for the day.
Aircraft that can be seen today are Boeings, Airbus, Twin Otter, BN2, Gulfstreams, etc

This was shot at Maho Beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Sint Maarten. We shot several plane landings and got in the water to shoot this jet takeoff. The jet blast blew everything all over the place, including this girls bikini top.
This tiny strip of Maho Beach in St Martin is best known for very low landings and approaches. The beach sits directly across from Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM). Experience the jet blasts of a 747 Jumbo Jet taking off just less then a football field away from you. Don't miss the feeling of an Airbus landing just a few yards above your head. Watch people and their stuff get blown across the beach and into the water. You can't experience this anywhere else in the world. It's a BLAST!

Maho Beach is a beach on the Dutch side of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, in the territory of Sint Maarten. It is famous for being adjacent to the Princess Juliana International Airport, and is a popular site for tourists and planewatchers, who visit the beach to watch aircraft on final approach landing at the airport, passing only a short distance above their heads.
Due to the unique proximity of low flying airliners, the location is very popular with plane spotters. This is one of the few places in the world where aircraft can be viewed in their flight path just outside the end of the runway. Watching airliners pass over the beach is such a popular activity that daily arrivals and departures airline timetables are displayed on a board in most bars and restaurants on the beach, and the Sunset Bar and Grill formerly had a speaker on its outside deck that broadcast radio transmissions between pilots and the airport's control tower.

Dan and Chelle arrive at the final stop on their Royal Caribbean cruise! Today they are in Saint Martin and their first stop is at Maho Beach, also known as airplane beach, to try and see the famous landings, dangerous jet engine blast, low level landings and take offs at the Princess Juliana International Airport that sits right on the beach! They hang out and play at the beach with This Is How We Bingham until they see their first plane come in, and then they keep on coming! They even get to experience a large airliner taking off and get blown by the massive jet turbine blast! What an amazing experience! They finish off their day with a little more fun at Great Beach, get some pizza, and start packing to disembark in the morning. This cruise has been one of the coolest times!
