O Parque Central da Maia é uma zona de relaxamento onde além de, num local central, urbano, se poder desfrutar de um ambiente calmo, podemos encontrar o posto de turismo da Maia Maia Welcome Center além de espaços de restauração.
As imagens foram captadas num final de tarde de Julho, numa altura em que estava em pleno funcionamento a Feira de Artesanato que já vai na 19ª edição.

O mês de maio, é uma boa altura para visitar a Maia e deliciar-se com pratos tão distintos quanto o Cabrito à Maiata, o Bacalhau à Lidador, os Rojões, o Cozido, entre outros, assim como inúmeros Doces Conventuais, iguarias que poderá apreciar nos restaurantes participantes.

Welcome to the IV Thomas E Starzl HPB Symposium:
The HPB Unit of the Surgical Department, Centro Hospitalar de S. Joao, Oporto Medical School, is organizing the VII International
Course and IV Thomas E Starzl Symposium on HPB Surgery.
This edition, to be held in Porto on February 5-7, 2015, intends to gather, under the overall topic “On the Shoulders of Giants”, some of the most outstanding “pionneers” in HPB and Transplant Surgery in a honouring symposium, that will simultaneously provide a retrospective of the major advances in this field as viewed by the protagonists and a glimpse of the future in the eyes of their legacy.
We are privileged to confirm the participation of Profs. Thomas Starzl, Henri Bismuth, Moreno-Gonzalez, Yuji Nimura, Masatoshi Makuuchi, Paul McMaster and Leslie Blumgart, as well as of some of their most prominent disciples, that are themselves, today, notorious personalities in HPB and Transplantation Surgery.
This VII Course, and IV Thomas E. Starzl Symposium, intends to reunite and honour, in an unique event and in a beautiful, warm and historical location, some of the living legends in our profession, as well as the schools they have created.
The purpose of this endeavour, the quality of the invited Faculty, along with the scientific interest of the proposed topics, are more than enough reasons to join us in what we expect, will be a memorable event.

Here’s a city made for walking…..
It’s little streets full of history and nostalgia make us want to turn back time.
To stroll along the Douro River, discover emblematic monuments like the Porto-São station or the Sé Cathedral, or taste the sweet flavour of wine are the musts of this city in the north of Portugal.
Welcome to Porto.
Nicknamed the unconquered city, Porto is the city that gave the country its name.
Initially it was called, Cale, but the Romans thought they were right at the time to add the word Port. Portus Cale was thus born.
During our city trip, we’ll discover the smallest corner of this surprising city, starting with its historic city centre, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. After dropping our luggage at the Hotel Sheraton, we invite you to enter the medieval neighbourhood of Ribeira, then take the Dom-Luis bridge, one of the 6 bridges that cross the Douro.
Liberdade Square and the São Bento train station with its hall adorned with azulejos will amaze you. Not forgetting the beaches, the tourism activities, or the places to party….in Porto, there’s something for everyone, trust us!
But for now, we’re going to get settled at the magnificent Porto Hotel & Spa. Located in the business district, the hotel is surprising by its design.
The modernity of its lines and transparency games, inside and out, are irresistibly successful.
The stairs dominating the lobby as well as the crisscross of the glass elevators have truly charmed us…
The location of the hotel makes it an ideal place, for business and tourism.
And for the rooms, there is ample choice.
Deluxe or club rooms with executive and junior suites, there is plenty of choice.
Access to the spa and club lounge are included and available all day.
But there is a place that Joana Almeida is particularly proud of, and it’s located in this space on the 11th floor.
Not being there for business, we decided to go for a walk along the Douro, the river that had such a large role to play in the wine trade, especially during the 18th century.
At that time, Port wines, which were not yet the wines we know today and were more like simple table wines, were barely consumed in Portugal and really intended for wine export, especially to the UK market.
It was here that the flat-bottomed boats transported the barrels of wine in order to load the ships that remained far away, at the mouth of the Douro in the Atlantic Ocean.
Today the Rabelos as they are called, are used for tourist cruises, and allow the curious traveller to discover the 6 bridges connecting the city of Porto to the Villa Nova of Gaia.
The Dom Luis Bridge is the most emblematic.
Inaugurated in 1886, it was designed by the engineer Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel.
You can admire it comfortably on the terrace of a café on the river. In this district of Ribeira, there is no shortage of places to party and enjoy a good Portuguese dish.
When you turn your head, you cannot escape the colourful facades and flowered balconies, typical of this neighbourhood.
And if the desire to discover Porto in a different way tempts you, why not opt for a helicopter flight.
Flyovers of the city can range from 10 to 60 minutes in the air, for a budget ranging from 45 to €215 per person.
After this excess of emotions, let's take advantage of the SPA at the Sheraton Hotel.

Manour House of the XVIII century with eigth rooms, five of wich with private bath.
The house is completely restored, offers all modern facilities, and is decorated with antique furniture.
Its baroque chapel and box-tree garden with Camelias deserve to be admired.
The Manour House Quinta da Granja is at 16 km from the OPorto airport, and only 5 kilometers away from the city limits.
Beaches, swimming pools, tennis courts or horse riding are within 15 km (Porto, Matosinhos, Leça da Palmeira). Miramar (20Km south of Oporto) has a beautiful and complete Golf course.
Your stay at the Manour House Quinta da Granja can be the starting point for an unforgettable journey to the beautiful Douro Valley where the universally known Port wine is produced. To those wishing to enjoy the quiet and peacefulness of a stay in a nature environment, although integrated into the big city, this Manour House will certainly deserve your preference.
If you are interested in visiting the historic towns of northern Portugal: Viana do Castelo, Braga, Guimarães, Braga, Vila Real, the road connections are simple and near.
The Manour House Quinta da Granja has central heating with condensing boiler for town gas; water heating by solar panels supplemented by electric cylinders and, in some facilities, air conditioners. It also features instalations for public water usage and a borehole for irrigation of gardens and yard.
Lawn with 900 m2 adjacent to the old water tank converted into pool of initiation, the eighteenth-century baroque garden is composed of four flower beds enclosed by double boxwood hedges and century-old camellias, each having at its center a statue in cast iron of the four seasons.
The total area of classical garden is about 1,100 m2.
The tent, considering both the entrance hall and the toilets, has a total area of 400 m2, including industrial and storage kitchen. The floor area of the tent, which opens on the garden, is about 250 m2. It also has a water house where the engines and the water tank from the borehole are located.
It has three main gates: the most important and main access to the eighteen century solar is topped by spiers typical of the time; the other two, although also wide and of the same time period, are essentially for pedestrians and to access the tent.
The chapel dedicated to “Senhora da Piedade” (Our Lady of Mercy), that also gives name to the adjacent street, is fairly good in size in the case of a private chapel. It is covered with tiles and the altar, of baroque finishings, has a life-size image of the Lady of Mercy with authorship attributed to Frei Cipriano da Cruz. It also has adjoining the house where the Manour House’s priest lived. This priest’s house is quite wide and independent, and is fully recovered, having two bedrooms, living room, dining room, kitchen, bathroom, garage and laundry. It has communication through the garden with the Manour House.
