Joy and I visited the Maizuru Natural Culture Garden to see the hydrangeas.
This time of year the garden is popular with the hydrangeas. There are somewhere around 50,000 hydrangea plants in this garden.
They have something to view in all four seasons.

Joy and I visited the Maizuru Natural Culture Garden to see the hydrangeas again this year.
This time of year the garden is full of hydrangeas. There are somewhere around 50,000 hydrangea plants. The hydrangea garden has a nickname of Sea of Hydrangeas (アジサイの海).
They have something to view in all four seasons.

Maizuru is a town where the sea breeze and red bricks meet.
This video highlights the sights I have seen around Maizuru over the last four plus years. The video starts in August and ends in July, much like the normal JET year. I am happy to call Maizuru my Japanese hometown.

Around Higashi Maizuru after Man-yi

After the rain had stopped I went out on my bike to look around Higashi Maizuru.
As I was expecting, all the waterways were extremely flooded.
I put my camera in a plastic bag and attached it to my monopod as I rode my bike. I am sure I was a sight to see with my camera and rain gear on.
Maizuru Chatta Matsuri (2014)
This is just some of the fireworks that was displayed at the Maizuru Chatta Matsuri 2014.
Chatta Matsuri is held on the last weekend of July and the fireworks were on the 27th of July this year.

In ancient times, the Province of Wakasa ーpresent-day Fukui Prefectureー used to supply the then-capitals of Kyoto or Nara with delicious food offerings such as seafood and sea salt, and thus it was known as 'Miketsukuni', or a land of royal provisions.
Today, I am in Obama City, in the southwestern 'Reinan' part of Fukui, to learn more about the rich culinary history and culture of the region!

Best Places to Visit in Japan During Summer! Japan Travel Guide
Wakasa Wada in Takahama, Fukui has to be among the best places in Japan to visit during the summer. It has a beautiful beach, outdoor activities, and a ton of other traditional Japanese stuff to do.
It's not too far from Kyoto and if you have the JR Pass you can use it to get there!

Kongo-in Temple in Autumn (秋の金剛院) 2013
Standing quietly amid the tranquility of the deep mountain folds is Kongo-in Temple, which is renowned for its beautiful red autumnal leaves. The sight of the red leaves surrounding this ancient temple, which was built by Prince Takaoka in the Heian era (794 - 1185), was also beautifully depicted by Yukio Mishima in his novel, The Temple of the Golden Pavilion. The three-storied pagoda with its persimmon tree roof tiles and the statues of the standing figures of Shukongoshin and Jinja Taisho are nationally important cultural assets. It wasn't the peak of the Autumn colors, but the weather was fantastic. We have had rain at least once a day for nearly two weeks. It was so nice to have nice weather and blue skies.
