Maizuru Park in Fukuoka City
Only a 3min subway ride away from Tenjin, the city center of Fukuoka City, lays the famous Maizuru Park with the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. The ruins of Fukuoka Castle (福岡城跡 - Fukuokajōato) are located in the middle of the city in Maizuru Park, named after the castle's alias, Maizuru Castle. Nowadays only ruined walls and a few turrets remain, and the park attracts visitors with walking trails and a few lookout points. Furthermore, another must-see spot is the Korokan, which was one of the ancient guest houses for foreign diplomats in earlier Japan, about 1000 years ago. The Korokan at Maizuru Park is the only one whose original location has been identified. It is said that the house had ushered the imperial embassies and missions from China (Shilla) for about 400 years from the end of 7th century to 11th. The remains were first discovered in 1987. The museum exhibits artifacts and trading items of the time. Check out Sam's report about these two famous places!

Hanami means to watch and enjoy cherry blossoms while you drink and eat under those trees, but I think I saw more people than cherry blossoms lol...

Maizuru Park Sakura: Cherry Blossom Explosion Fukuoka ✿ 福岡市舞鶴公園の桜●花見 - Japan As It Truly Is
Cherry blossoms at their peak! If you've never seen them up close at the height of their beauty, then THIS is the video to see. Maizuru Koen in Fukuoka is one of the greatest sakura areas in western Japan and it never fails to amaze.
The park covers the area that Fukuoka Castle used to occupy. Now there are only the castle moat, some walls and stone remains. But the view over the western part of the city is still excellent and the area is most of the time very tranquil and relaxing.
Also close by is the Heiwadai Stadium and the Korokan Historical Museum, where you can view the remains of guest houses for Chinese diplomats used for 4 centuries until the 11th Century.

Maizuru Park is a park in Fukuoka with the ruins of the castle. It's a great spot for cherry blossom viewing in late March/early April. They often have special events; I spotted a Yayoi Kusama pumpkin for a temporary Art in the Castle event. Ohori Park is right next door - a large park with a lake and a fun walkway across the middle, with bridges and swan boats. A good place to go running, stroll around or just relax during your time in Fukuoka.

Such a perfect day for a stroll! Interesting to see how Japanese people spend their Sundays in a park. It's Cherry Blossom season as well so I'm kinda fascinated to witness how they celebrate it in known sakura spots. Most people simply enjoy chilling with friends and colleagues, parents and grandparents play with their child / grandchildren... No cellphones, no SNS. Just plain interaction with loved ones. Ah... Bliss.

Cherry Blossoms in Fukuoka, Japan
Cherry blossoms in Japan! In March 2019 I went to look for cherry blossoms in Fukuoka, Japan. In Japan, a lot of people celebrate hanami, or flower viewing, during March/April when the cherry blossoms bloom. It's a beautiful time to be in Japan. I visited Atago Shrine and Maizuru Park at the Fukuoka Castle Ruins near Ohori Park. Atago Shrine was so quiet and peaceful and at Maizuru Park, they were setting up for a cherry blossom festival
