Maizuru Park in Fukuoka City
Only a 3min subway ride away from Tenjin, the city center of Fukuoka City, lays the famous Maizuru Park with the ruins of Fukuoka Castle. The ruins of Fukuoka Castle (福岡城跡 - Fukuokajōato) are located in the middle of the city in Maizuru Park, named after the castle's alias, Maizuru Castle. Nowadays only ruined walls and a few turrets remain, and the park attracts visitors with walking trails and a few lookout points. Furthermore, another must-see spot is the Korokan, which was one of the ancient guest houses for foreign diplomats in earlier Japan, about 1000 years ago. The Korokan at Maizuru Park is the only one whose original location has been identified. It is said that the house had ushered the imperial embassies and missions from China (Shilla) for about 400 years from the end of 7th century to 11th. The remains were first discovered in 1987. The museum exhibits artifacts and trading items of the time. Check out Sam's report about these two famous places!

Maizuru Park Sakura: Cherry Blossom Explosion Fukuoka ✿ 福岡市舞鶴公園の桜●花見 - Japan As It Truly Is
Cherry blossoms at their peak! If you've never seen them up close at the height of their beauty, then THIS is the video to see. Maizuru Koen in Fukuoka is one of the greatest sakura areas in western Japan and it never fails to amaze.
The park covers the area that Fukuoka Castle used to occupy. Now there are only the castle moat, some walls and stone remains. But the view over the western part of the city is still excellent and the area is most of the time very tranquil and relaxing.
Also close by is the Heiwadai Stadium and the Korokan Historical Museum, where you can view the remains of guest houses for Chinese diplomats used for 4 centuries until the 11th Century.

in the city of Maizuru to be exact ???? and we went ashore at 12 nn. to unwind and walk around thru the city, as we have limited time because we need to get back on the ship before are all crew onboard which is 5pm.
we walk around to sense the taste of the past and to witness the numerous historical sceneries such as group of temples and shrines.
we visited
Enryu-ji Temple- which is a very old temple erected by Gyoki during the Nara period.
Asashiro Jinja Shrine- a very old shrine, originally built to praise izanami-no-mikoto, the guardian diety of Maizuru.
Keirin-Ji Temple- infront of the main gate is the inscription Kinkushu. Kun and Shu refers to garlic and alcohol respectively, while kin means prohibited. Essentially. No alcohol or smelly things allowed.
the west area of maizuru city has been developed as a castle town of the military commander Yusai HOSOKAWA.

福岡城跡にある、お堀に近い公園の方へも立ち寄ってみました。普通は、四季折々の季節の花が咲いています。福岡城は江戸時代の日本の城です。別名舞鶴城とも呼ばれ、国の史跡に指定されています。7年の歳月をかけて築かれたと言われていますが、周りがお堀で囲まれているのが..よくできていると思います。機械がない時代に大きな石をどうして運んだのか不思議です。現代では、お城の前には、素晴らしいビルが立ち並んでいます。石垣とか、石畳みは品格を漂わせてビルに負けていません。、現在では市民の憩いの場となっています。春になると桜が一面に咲く観光スポットでもあります。

Japan Trip - 21 (Maizuru 3)
My final trip to Maizuru on Friday, October 26, 2012. We visited a statue of Kunizo Arimoto, Tanabe Castle, and Goro Sky Tower.
Day-til-Night Hanami in Fukuoka! Maizuru Park
Hanami means to watch and enjoy cherry blossoms while you drink and eat under those trees, but I think I saw more people than cherry blossoms lol...
