Kenai Fjords 360 - Glacier & Wildlife Cruise in Kenai Fjords National Park with Major Marine Tours
Experience the whales and glaciers of Kenai Fjords National Park on a cruise with Major Marine Tours. Daily departures from Seward, Alaska.
Kenai Fjords National Park Cruise - Seward, Alaska
The cruise will travel through the protected waters of Resurrection Bay and continue around Cape Aialik into Aialik Bay to view Holgate Glacier.
A National Park Ranger will be onboard to provide a detailed narrative on the history, ecology, geology, and wildlife in the area. They are always more than happy to answer your questions during the cruise.
While in the protected waters of Aialik Bay we will begin serving our optional all-you-can-eat Alaska salmon and prime rib meal that is freshly prepared onboard. This meal is served buffet style and is consistently rated as the best of any day-cruise company in Southcentral Alaska. While you enjoy our cruising restaurant service you will be able to sit at your reserved seat inside the heated cabin and not miss out on any of the beautiful scenery.
At the end of Aialik Bay is the mighty Holgate Glacier, an actively calving tidewater glacier. We will spend time in front of the glacier to watch for calving, where giant chunks of glacial ice break off and crash into the water.
Depending on the time of year, we will explore the Chiswell Islands (part of the Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge) or Cape Resurrection, home to thousands of nesting seabirds including puffins, kittiwakes, and cormorants. The captain will stop the boat close to the seabird nesting areas, providing great photo opportunities. We will also visit Steller sea lion colonies, where Steller sea lions gather on the rugged, rocky coastline. Sea otters, bald eagles, and mountain goats are also commonly seen along the route.

Seward, Alaska in the Winter | Anchorage Day Trip
ALASKAN WINTER ROAD TRIP / Scenic Drive in Alaska + Visiting Seward, Alaska
SEWARD, ALASKA
Seward is about a two and a half-hour drive from Anchorage along the scenic coastal Seward Highway. It makes for a great day trip from Anchorage. Truly, though, this winter road trip in Alaska was absolutely stunning and one of the most beautiful drives we've ever been on.
Once we got to Seward, we visited a little coffee shop and walked around the town a bit. There are a few hikes you could do to glaciers from there but the roads were closed due to snow and ice.

Kenai Fjords Cruise
These photos were taken during a six-hour cruise on Major Marine Tours. The cruise departed from the Seward marina, made its way out to the Gulf of Alaska, around Atalik Cape and up to Aialik Glacier, one of the last remaining glaciers that enters the bay.

SWEET T DOES ALASKA | AMAZING 6 Hour Kenai Fjords Tour!
When I was planning this Alaska trip, I knew I wanted to take a cruise to see glaciers and whales, but there were so many other cool things to do too, like flightseeing and dog sled rides. I had to choose just one for our big splurge. The Kenai Fjords tour was the winner, and boy was it amazing! We chose the 6 hour tour with the company Kenai Fjords Tours. It included lunch and a warm cookie and was well worth the $225 for both of us! We saw beautiful landscapes, along with eagles, seals, otters, sea lions, puffins, humpback whales, and orca killer whales! We visited the Aialik Glacier and watched pieces break off and fall into the water. The sound was like thunder! So loud even for seemly small pieces. The crew caught a piece of the glacier that had broken off for us to hold and look at. It got a bit stormy and the ride back was very bumpy. I only filmed a little because I needed to hold on with both hands and didn't want to drop my phone. A few people got sick but we were just fine! It was quite the adventure and I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Hey! I'm Shannon and I've been traveling with my daughter Talula (Sweet T) and our 3 dogs since June 2016! We have visited 41 states, 2 Canadian provinces and have driven over 30,000 miles together! We currently live in and travel in a 30ft Class C Tioga Ranger motorhome, but we previously traveled with a Nissan Xterra that towed a 20ft Rockwood Mini-Lite travel trailer. We boondock (free-camp, dry-camp, off-grid) about 90% of the time. We've camped at Walmarts, Cracker Barrels, Cabelas, casinos, airports, roadside pull-outs, rest stops, and on public lands(BLM.) I am a photographer and writer, but most importantly, i'm a mother.

Seward's location is nothing short of epic. It sits at the northernmost edge of Resurrection Bay, a deeply dug fjord carved millennia ago by retreating glaciers. To the east are snowcapped peaks decked out in their lower altitudes by forests of Sitka spruce. To the west is 700 square miles of ice known as the Harding Icefield. It is encompassed by the larger Kenai Fjords National Park. No matter where you look, there's something beautiful to see.
It was the area's natural gateway to northern Alaska lands that led to its 1903 selection for the southern terminus of what would become the Alaska Railroad. The settlement was named Seward in honor of the politician who lobbied for and negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867. When the railroad was successfully constructed to Anchorage, Seward's future was secure. Today it serves as a turnaround port for most major glacier route Alaska cruises from Seward to Vancouver.
Seward offers a wide selection of activities for every age, energy level, and interest. By far the most popular are Kenai Fjords day cruises into Resurrection Bay and Kenai Fjords National Park. Our favorite cruises go by spacious catamaran into Aialik Bay for astounding views of tidewater glaciers and ample chances to see the area's diverse marine wildlife. Seward's beautiful bay waters can also be explored by a guided kayak excursion. Seward is a great place for fishing. Monster halibut are caught each year in nearby waters, and the town is host to the popular Seward Silver Salmon Derby held annually in mid-August. Back on land, there's the Alaska SeaLife Center, hiking at Exit Glacier, ziplining, sled dog kennel tours-the list goes on.
Keep reading for expert Seward and Kenai Fjords National Park advice on where to stay, things to do, and how to get around.
For most visitors interested in seeing Seward, we recommend spending at least one or two nights in town. There are as many lodging options as there are activities. The Harbor 360 offers freshly updated rooms, complimentary continental breakfast, and a convenient harbor front location. Farther outside of town, the Seward Windsong Lodge has a cozy rustic feel and views of the Resurrection Valley. The lodge provides transportation into town via a free scheduled shuttle.
Although Seward does have a small airport, most visitors reach Seward by Alaska Railroad, Park Connection Motorcoach, rental car, or aboard a cruise from Vancouver. The Park Connection offers two trips daily between Anchorage and Seward and the only same day connecting service to Talkeetna and Denali National Park. The Alaska Railroad offers daily summer service between Anchorage and Seward, with the train from Anchorage arriving in the late morning and return train departing in the early evening. Many consider this route to be the most scenic train trip in the state. The highway to Seward is a National Scenic Byway in its own right, so we recommend traveling one direction by rail and the other by bus.
Kenai Fjords Ressurection bay tour with Kenai Fjords Tours
During our stay in Seward, we were lucky enough to get out on the bay via Kenai Fjords tours. We did the Resurrection Bay Tour, and loved all the wildlife and whales we got to see..
Kenai Fjords Resurrection Bay Tour
Step aboard the boat for a 4 ½ hour wildlife and glacier cruise. Watch for humpback whales, sea otters, puffins, orcas and bald eagles. Then head to Fox Island to enjoy a buffet of prime rib, wild Alaska salmon, mashed potatoes, salad and rolls. As you board the boat for more wildlife viewing you will smell the aroma of the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies that will soon be your desert.
