few days back we visited makandawa rain forest which is in kitulgala.
its a one day trip which can be done within few hours.we cooked some pol rot in middle of the forest.i hope you guys enjoy the video.

The Makandawa Forest Reserve is one of Sri Lanka’s richest and most unspoiled rainforests. It covers an area of 1155 hectares and lies close to the village of Kithulgala, one of Sri Lanka’s centers for adventure sports. The reserve hosts a plethora of rare and endemic flora and fauna. It also hides one of Sri Lanka’s well known ancient treasures; the Belilena Cave. Makandawa is also the selfsame rainforest where the famous World War II movie, ‘The Bridge over the River Kwai’.

The Forest

This secondary lowland rainforest has several interesting geographical features; such as crystal clear natural rock pools, waterfalls, wonderfully challenging trails that meander through the thick tropical rainforest, and of course the Kelani River running right through the jungle. As such it is a great place to go hiking,5 whitewater rafting, birdwatching or butterfly watching. There are also a number of adventure sports that you can engage in in Kithulgala.

බුදු රජාණන් වහන්සේ සහ උතුමාණන්ගේ ගොලයින් 500ණමක් පූජනීය ශ්‍රී පාදස්ථානය නැත්නම් ආදම්ගේ කදු මුදුනේ සිට බැසීමෙන් පසු දවස ගතකල ස්ථානය යැයි විශ්වාස කෙරේ.

පුරාවෘත්තයන්ට අනුව දිවා ගුහාව සොලොස්මස්ථාන අතරින් 05වන ස්ථානය ගනී.

හින්දු දේවියෙකු වෙනුවෙන් කැප කරන ලද මණ්ඩුක පොකුණ වෙත කාසියක් විසි කිරීම සිරිතකි ළුය ගුහාවට ඇතුළු වූ පසු බැතිමතුන් වෙනුවෙන් සුභ පතනවා යැයි විශ්වාස කෙරේ.

දිවා ගුහාව උඩටම ගිය විට ශ්‍රී පාදස්ථානය ඇතින් පෙනෙන ආකාරය බලන්න පුළුවන් වගේම මෙහි ඇති විශේෂත්වය භික්ෂූන් වහන්සේලා 1000 නමකට වුවද මෙහි වැඩ සිටිය හැකි වීම. තවද මෙහිදී ඓතිහාසික බිතුසිතුවම් වැනි දෑ දැකගත හැකිවේ.

මෙම හෙතූන් මුල් කරගෙන ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නිවැරදිම දිවා ගුහාව ලෙස මෙම ගුහාව නම් කර ඇත..

Kitulgala Adventure with Serandib Adventure

Kitulgala is a small town in the west of Sri Lanka. A rain forestry area, which gets two monsoons each year, and is one of the wettest places in Sri Lanka. Nevertheless, it comes alive in the first three months of the year, especially in February, the driest month. The Academy Award-winning movie The Bridge on the River Kwai was filmed on the Kelani River near Kitulgala, although nothing remains now except the concrete foundations for the bridge Kitulgala is the base for white-water rafting in Sri Lanka.

Large numbers of people make the excursion from Colombo at weekends to enjoy the beautiful scenery, play in the river, Jungle Walks, Adventurous water fall jumps/ slides, White Water Rafting and have an excellent rice and curry lunch at the local restaurants.

The Kelani river is wide at Kitulgala, but it is shallow apart from a deep channel near the opposite bank, so in the drier months it provides a safe and attractive place to swim, wash and play.

Many birders stay at Kitulgala. This area has most of the rainforest bird species that are found at the World Biosphere Reserve at Sinharaja, although in lower numbers. However, the secondary forest and cultivation at Kitulgala is more open than the pristine woodlands of Sinharaja, and elusive endemic species like Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Green-billed Coucal and Spot-winged Thrush may be easier to see. So Kitulgala is a primary spot for bird watching enthusiasts.

Kithulgala_@ Makandawa Rainforest

The beautiful Makadawa Reserve is located in the scenic village of Kitulgala in the Sabaragamuwa Province of Sri Lanka. Among the many native and migrating bird species here, there are fifty-four rare species such as the green billed coucal, yellow fronted barbet and the Ceylon jungle and spur fowl along with the recently discovered serendip scops owl. Red slender loris and grizzle tailed giant squirrels are some of the mammals that you can see here.
