Trip to Makasutu Cultural Forest, The Gambia
Facebook:
My first visit to Makasutu Cultural forest with Aziz the Birdman from Palm Beach Hotel. I'd never thought of going on my previous visits to The Gambia, but I'd definitely visit again now I have been! Recorded 16th February 2017.
Our Visit to Makasutu Culture Forest/The Gambia: with THE DEE'S
By far, this was the most informative tour/adventure that we received in The Gambia! If you are truly into learning about Gambian culture and ecology take this tour. At 3+ hours the half day portion of this tour is quite sufficient, just eat before you arrive. Be ready for nature: wear closed-toe shoes (I made it with rubber sandals) insect repellent and bring sunscreen. Along with the plethora of information from our guides we saw an amazing amount of wildlife, animals & plants. Also don’t forget to bring a bottle or two of water with you, you’ll need it.

Empowering forest communities in The Gambia
A nationwide programme to transfer government-owned forest land to local communities is changing lives in The Gambia while promoting the sustainable management of its forests. As communities manage forest affairs and benefit from the proceeds from forest resources, more forest-friendly livelihoods such as beekeeping and soap making are boosting incomes while also helping to keep The Gambia’s forests intact.

BIJILO FOREST PARK
Bijilo Forest Park & Nature Trail (Monkey Park) lies in the coastal zone, next to the beach, about 11km west of Banjul capital, in the Kombo Saint Mary District, of The Gambia in West Africa. The species rich, fenced woodland was gazetted in 1952 and covers an area of 51.3 hectares (126 acres / about half a square km), and is on the Atlantic Ocean beach at the southern end of the Senegambia area of Kololi. It has a total length of 1,500 meters parallel to the coast and width of 350 meters, and the soils are deep and well drained. The protected nature reserve is comprised primarily of a closed canopy forest with a significant number of rhun palms, and with a relatively thin strip of herbaceous dune vegetation.

A globe trotting paper doll meets its end in The Gambia
Some ship passengers take photos for their offspring with a cardboard cutout like this one, that travels around the world with them. But this one's journey ended in The Gambia, Africa, when one of the monkeys ate it in the Makasutu Palm Forest outside of Banjul ! By the way, despite humans being larger, there's no question any one of these very strong monkeys could tear apart any human being it chose....so best not to antagonize them.

Bijilo Forest Park: I Found Monkeys! - The Gambia
This was a really good day! I visited the Bijilo Forest Park in The Gambia in hopes of finding some monkeys and was completely successful. My hike through the forest park resulted in finding two different species of monkeys: The green vervets and the much more elusive red colobus monkeys. If all days in travel could have monkeys, there would be no bad days.
Tomorrow I visit a sacred crocodile pond in Bakau!

EP38 _ Sukuta Town Goes green - The Gambia
The people of Sukuta have won back their ancestral forest , that was forcefully taken from them by the ex dictatorial military regime .
Even though the forest has been severely exploited and many plots have been sold to individuals and real estate agencies, the major parts of the forest has been saved .
And on this video , I am documenting their attempt to replant trees on the areas that have been mysteriously cleared (nobody knows by who and why...)
This is like a historic moment , the land officially belongs to the community instead of the state... It’s an exiting moment for the people ...
Personally Its a privileged to take part in such events .
This is a three episode series.
More grace ,prosperity and love in your life!
enjoy...
