Whiskey Review Makers Mark Bourbon Review
Wheat Bourbon that is to die for. Seriously can't go wrong with the whisky.
Maker's Mark® is made with soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, for a one-of-a-kind, full-flavored bourbon that's easy to drink. To ensure consistency, we rotate every barrel by hand and age our bourbon to taste, not time. Each and every bottle of Maker's® is still hand-dipped in our signature red wax at our distillery in Loretto, Ky., just like Bill, Sr., would have wanted.
(Nose)
Woody oak, caramel, vanilla and wheat prevail in the nose
(Taste)
Sweet and balanced with caramel, vanilla and fruity essences
(Finish)
Smooth and subtle
Please don't drink alcohol if you are under 21 years of age in the United States.

Maker's Mark V.S. Bulleit
This weeks episode of Talking Whiskey has a classic Kentucky bourbon going toe to toe with a new comer to the Blue Grass State Bulleit bourbon whiskey.
Bill Samuels, Sr., simply wanted a whisky he would enjoy drinking. That's why Maker's Mark® is made with soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, for a full-flavored bourbon that's never bitter or hot. To ensure consistency, we rotate every barrel by hand and age our bourbon to taste, not time. Each and every bottle of Maker's® is still hand-dipped in signature red wax at our distillery in Loretto, Ky., just like Bill would have wanted
Proof: 90
Aroma: Woody oak, caramel, vanilla and wheat prevail in the nose.
Taste: Sweet and balanced with caramel, vanilla and fruity essences.
Finish: Smooth and subtle.
Bulleit Bourbon is inspired by the whiskey pioneered by Augustus Bulleit over 150 years ago. Only ingredients of the very highest quality are used. The subtlety and complexity of Bulleit Bourbon come from its unique blend of rye, corn, and barley malt, along with special strains of yeast and pure Kentucky limestone filtered water. Due to its especially high rye content, Bulleit Bourbon has a bold, spicy character with a finish that's distinctively clean and smooth.
Medium amber in color, with gentle spiciness and sweet oak aromas. Mid-palate is smooth with tones of maple, oak, and nutmeg. Finish is long, dry, and satiny with a light toffee flavor.
Betty's Trip to Maker's Mark Distillery with Rick--NO RECIPE--
Betty and her husband, Rick, visited the Maker's Mark Distillery in Loretto, Kentucky (about 70 miles from our home). This video shows several buildings associated with the making of Bourbon whisky (not spelled whiskey!). Rick and I spent some time just enjoying the scenic views around the distillery, and then we went on a tour that lasted about a half hour. The tour showed us some history behind Maker's Mark and all the steps in making this liquor, which must be aged from about 6 years to 7 years. We finished our tour at the gift shop, where we were treated to bourbon balls, a popular candy in Kentucky and a tasting of incompletely aged whisky as well as aged whisky. I asked our tour guide for the recipe for Maker's Mark Bourbon Balls, and I was given the recipe--you may see those in Betty's Kitchen later! At the gift shop, I also bought 2 dipping bottles of Bourbon (free of the red wax topping). I was allowed (helped) to dip those myself, and although I had a little trouble dipping the bottles in the hot red wax, one of them turned out beautifully! These are some of the things you will see in this little day trip video--and I will be making something with Marker's Mark bourbon whisky for you soon! Kentucky produces 95% of the world's bourbon whisky. I hope you enjoy this tour of a true Kentucky tradition! -- Betty :)
