Beautiful view of Makhdoom Sahib Shrine situated on the southern side of Hari Parbat, Srinagar.
Hari Parbat is a hill overlooking Srinagar, the largest city and summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. It is the site of a Durrani fort, built in 1808. It has the famous Shakti Temple on the western Slope and Muslim shrines of Khwaja Makhdoom Sahib and Akhund Mullah Shah on the southern slope. On the southern side of the outer wall there is a Gurudwara, which commemorates the visit of Guru Hargobind.
Nestled below the imposing Mughal Fort is the shrine of Sheikh Hamza Makhdum. Also known as Makhdoom Sahib, Mehboob-ul-Alam and Sultan-Ul-Arifeen. Shrine is towards the southern side of Hari Parbat Hill. It is one of the most sacred shrines in Kashmir. This double storied, many-pillared structure displays a remarkable architectural style. This shrine is visited not only by Muslims but by people of all faiths, throughout the year. Makhdoom Sahib, also called Hazrat Sultan, was a Sufi saint.

Makhdoom Sahib Shrine at Srinagar is located at the foothills of Hari Parbat. The shrine rests below a magnificent Mughal fort that's spread out on the hill. This fort gives a magnificent top view of Makhdoom Sahib Shrine and falls on the southern side of the hill. Beauty of this shrine is truly enchanting and invites devotees on a large scale irrespective of their religion. This shrine is named after Hazrat Sultan, who belonged to Syed dynasty. He hailed from Tujar Shareef which lies in Kashmir. He inherited land lordship from the family but was a scholar and a mystic Sufi Muslim Saint. 'Makhdoom' denotes a person who dedicates his life to Islam and Quran.
Hazrat Sultan is said to have had divine powers. Personal experiences of people tell us that those who visit the shrine never return empty handed. Unbelievable recoveries have increased the faith of people and their number of visits to this place.
This double storied mosque is an invigorating structure and it's designed with many pillars, high connecting false ceiling and conical roofs. The mosque has a high peak on top finished with descending roof sizes. This shrine also connects to the famous Dal Lake and a number of stone steps take you there. The exteriors of this mosque are a striking example of Mughal architectural design. Some parts of the shrine can be correlated to the Mughal fort on top. This shrine is open throughout the year, irrespective of the extreme weather conditions of this place.

Makhdoom Sahib is a distinguished Islamic shrine, which lies below the Mughal Fort, towards the south of Hari Parbat. It is amongst the most famous shrines of the valley of Kashmir. The mosque is named after the revered Sufi saint Sheikh Hamza Makhdoom, who was known by different names like Makhdoom Sahib, Hazrat Sultan, Sultan-ul-Arifeen and Mehboob-ul-Alam.

Historical Dastgeer Sahib shrine in Srinagar gutted in blaze
Srinagar: A fire has broken out at the more than century old shrine of Dastageer Sahib in the Khanyar area of Srinagar. Fire tenders have been rushed to the spot to bring the blaze under control at the shrine that is mostly made up of wood. However ancient relics of the saint, housed in the Shrine have been saved and retrieved. Officials say since they were kept in a fire-proof safe they remained unharmed.

Makhdoom Sahib Ropeway
The first ropeway system in the city, connecting the famous shrine of sufi saint Makhdoom Sahib (RA) atop a hillock in the old city, was today opened for public. This is the second such project in the state after the famous Gandola Cable Car in Gulmarg ski-resort.
This ropeway, constructed by Jammu and Kashmir Cable Car Corporation at a cost of Rs 6.5 crore, will provide an alternative means of transportation to the old and disabled people who visit the revered shrine.
