Nestled in the tunneled shopping areas of Kokusai Street, Makishi Market is a really cool experience for okinawan and tourists alike.
With a huge variety of colorful, fresh seafood and meats, visitors are guaranteed to work up an appetite walking through here. Make your selection and take the ingredients to the floor above to be prepared by local chefs for you to eat right then and there. After eating, BE SURE to visit the ice cream shop Hearts and Berries on the second floor; the ice cream is homemade and DELICIOUS!

My friends and I went to Kokusai Dori, the walking street of Naha, Okinawa and at the end of the day, we went to the fish market near by.

Makishi Market
The Naha Public Market (Makishi Kosetsu-ichiba), Naha's central produce, meat, fish and general merchandise market, is an excellent place for visitors to go to learn about everyday life in Okinawa. On the first floor you can buy all kinds of Okinawan foodstuffs, from pork, including pig's face, feet and stomach, to many kinds of colorful fish and shellfish, from unique vegetables like goya (bittermelon) and hechima (sponge gourd) to tropical fruits that are delivered directly from the farm. To whet your appetite, the small alleys around the market feature stand-up-style shops, selling delicacies such as fresh tempura (deep-fried fish and vegetables), steamed cakes and goya juice.

OKINAWA WORLD Theme Park & Shop at Makishi Public Market in Okinawa, Japan
We only had one day in Okinawa so how could we fit all this island in one tiny day? By going to their Okinawa World theme park! You get to learn about their culture, arts, history, most importantly about their food, all in one place.
We do a quick shopping stop at Makishi Public Market for last minute souvenirs and Pablo cheese tarts. I don't ever want to leave Japan. It's just so beautiful!

I share 4 tips to best enjoy your trip to Kokusai Street in Okinawa, Japan. These tips are meant to make your trip easier and to maximize your time exploring the mile-long stretch of stores! Be sure to check out the rest of the description box for more details.
One of the main tourist attractions in Okinawa, Kokusai Douri (International Street) is a vibrant mile-long stretch of department stores, shopping malls, souvenir shops, and a variety of restaurants/cafes.
Kokusai Street is located right in central Naha and a hot spot for tourists. Most stores are open everyday, generally between 1000-2300. Karaoke and nightclubs are open until past midnight (some karaoke centers are open 24 hours). Depending on when you go, there may be special festivities with one of the most famous ones being the 10,000 Eisa Festival held early August. I like to visit Kokusai Street whenever I'm on island for a chance to grab souvenirs for my friends and family in the US.

We visited the famous First Makishi Public Market in Okinawa!!! We went in the afternoon so it wasn't as crowded as we expected it to be. They're mostly well-known for their fresh seafood which you can purchase and go up to the second floor food court where you can get any food stalls there to get them cooked right on the spot. We highly recommend you do that!!! Just FYI, the prices is not going to be on the lower end but its definitely WORTH it!!! Join us as we explore Okinawa, Japan and other places for great food to eat.
