Hauser Dam (also known as Hauser Lake Dam) is a hydroelectric straight gravity dam on the Missouri River about 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Helena, Montana, in the United States. The original dam, built between 1905 and 1907, failed in 1908 and caused severe flooding and damage downstream. A second dam was built on the site in 1908 and opened in 1911 and comprises the present structure. The current Hauser Dam is 700 feet (210 m) long and 80 feet (24 m) high.[1] The reservoir formed by the dam, Hauser Lake (also known as Hauser Reservoir) is 25 miles (40 km) long, has a surface area of 3,800 acres (1,500 ha), and has a storage capacity of 98,000 acre feet (121,000,000 m3) of water when full
Hauser Dam is a six-unit hydroelectric plant on the Missouri River, about 14 miles northeast of Helena, Mont. The units have a total generating capacity of 19 megawatts. (One megawatt can satisfy the average energy needs of 750 households.)
Hauser Dam, which began operation in 1911, is 720 feet long and 111 feet high. Its reservoir is 14 miles long and has a storage capacity of 64,253 acre-feet when combined with nearby Lake Helena's usable storage capacity. The dam is classified as a run-of-river project because it can generate electricity using the water that flows down the river, without the need to store additional water supplies.
Hauser Dam is one of eight hydroelectric plants and one reservoir along the Missouri and Madison rivers covered under PPL Montana's Project 2188 operating license. Through this license, PPL Montana works with state and federal agencies and private groups to implement a diverse array of environmental stewardship projects to protect habitats on or near the banks of the Missouri and Madison Rivers.
The dam has a security gate for full-time recreational pedestrian access to allow recreationists to get to the other side of the river, which is virtually inaccessible by other means.
PPL Montana contributed $1.4 million to acquire, design and develop White Sandy Beach at Hauser Dam. The company also has contributed a total of $400,000 to expand the dam's causeway and reconstruct the access site. In addition to its initial contributions, PPL Montana continues to provide $50,000 a year for the operation and maintenance of recreational sites at Hauser Dam.
Hauser Reservoir and nearby Lake Helena are popular sites for recreational activities such as fishing and hiking. Numerous campgrounds dot the river above and below the dam. PPL Montana's Holter Dam, located 29 miles downstream, offers additional recreational opportunities for outdoor enthusiasts.

#2 MISSOULA CLUB ROADIE: THE BAD LANDS
THE BAD LANDS, SOUTH DAKOTA: SEGMENT #2
ROAD EDIT OF ROAD TRIP TO MISSOULA MT FOR A CHEESEBURGER.
This is Segment #2. This is the first real day of shooting with the Canon Vixia HF S21- when I wasn't driving and navigating and filming at the same time. I just traded in a SLR 5D at B&H the day before I left and picked up this HD cam to do this trip. So forgive me for the wonky footage. Its hard to do The Bad Lands justice any day- they are So F-ing Beautiful. I also switched platforms from a Panasonic DVX 100A to this HD cam which is the size of a Budweiser 12oz can. I'm doing my best with the tiny screen I can't really see and the white balance which is never correct even when done manually. Other then that this little camera rocks! (except that it was a real pain in the ass to get the footage downloaded to imovie 11'- thanks for the update Mac!). The Song is Healing Song #10 from Robert Attson, Johnny Mike & Verdell Primeaux's album Healing and Peyote Songs In Sioux and Navajo EVERYONE PLEASE BUY IT! itunes has it for $10.
