Malá Strana (Czech for Little Quarter, German Prager Kleinseite) or more officially Menší Město pražské (English Lesser Town of Prague) is a district of the city of Prague, Czech Republic, and one of its most historic regions.
In the Middle Ages, it was a dominant center of the ethnic German (and since 16th century also Italian) citizens of Prague.[citation needed] It also housed a large number of noble palaces while the right-bank towns were comparatively more bourgeois and more Bohemian Czech.

Haunted Prague : The Ancient Necropolis of Mala Strana Cemetery
A survey of the haunted site. Paranormal investigations during summertime 2016 took me to Mala Strana Cemetery in Prague, Czech Republic - one of the most haunted cities in the world. I have been travelling to Prague for over 25 years and have even lived in Mala Strana (on the left side of the River Vltava) within the shadow of Prague Castle. The residents of Mala Strana call their district The village within the city and are very proud of their district. Mala Strana does feel like a village within a city. Over the last 25 years I have forged many friendships with local historians, intellectuals and Occultists who live there - and this is why the true history of this Cemetery can be read now.
It is a constant source of surprise for me that most Prague citizens have no idea exactly how old this Necropolis is. Most believe it was founded in 1680 (along with Olsany cemetery - Prague's largest Necropolis) due to the massive epidemic of The Black Death which ravaged the city at the time. Now it is true Mala Strana took its share of the 100,000 victims in 1680 - but its origin is much older. Even if you visit Mala Strana Cemetery today and look at the information provided for the tourists, or indeed, do your own research online - you will be informed 1680 was the year of its origin. Not so.
Mala Strana Cemetery is Prague's oldest Cemetery. Dating back to the very foundations of the city itself - in excess of 1000 years. When the founder of Prague, the Princess Libuse, took her spear and slammed it into the earth, declaring We shall found a city here of such beauty that it will even shame the stars - Mala Strana Necropolis was already receiving the dead as a burial site.
It has seen the city of Prague rise all around it, even though for most of its history it was open fields and vinyards. Today Mala Strana Necropolis is not technically part of Mala Strana district itself, it has been swallowed by the much larger district of Smichov. Though this is recent - circa 1910.
As mentioned, in 1680 it did receive many thousands of Plague corpses (as the city struggled to cope during the epidemic) and also in 1713 - 1714 when another lesser outbreak of Bubonic Plague occured. However, when the 1680 dead were buried, Mala Strana had already been a burial site for the best part of 1000 years.
Today Mala Strana Necropolis is not only the oldest Cemetery in Prague, but probably the most beautiful. The only remaining graves are Georgian/Victorian but there is a real Gothic feel to it - matched only by the western fringes of Olsany Cemetery. No visit to Prague is complete without a visit here. There is full public access and no charge to wander around - the people who manage this beautiful place are happy if you want to take videos or photos.
Note - Even though it exists in Smichov district today, Mala Strana Cemetery should not be confused with Smichov Cemetery - a much larger Necropolis which lies about a mile to the south on top of Smichov Hill. Smichov Cemetery is Victorian in origin.
Mala Strana Cemetery is the oldest Necropolis in Prague and the most beautiful.
