Brief History: Malahide Castle has a long and rich history and played a central role in Medieval Irish history. The oldest parts of the castle date back to the 12th century. The building was notably enlarged in the reign of Edward IV, and the towers added circa 1600-1650. The estate survived such losses as the Battle of the Boyne and the Penal Laws. It was home to the Talbot family for almost 800 years (1185 to 1975).
Malahide Castle was built by the Talbots, an English family holding the title Earls of Shrewsbury, who had arrived in England during the Norman invasion with William the Conqueror. The French origin of the name was Tailbois or Talebot, and they had been Barons of Cleuville in Normandy before their arrival in England. Their name is thought to be first recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086.

MALAHIDE CASTLE DUBLIN IRELAND-2019
Entertainment educational and fun
Malahide Castle- First day in Ireland
Erica and Isaac sure enjoyed their first day in Ireland! After a red eye flight from JFK, they landed at 7am Ireland time. They picked up the car rental- (Erica has to go automatic instead of manual) and immediately set off to their first destination- Malahide Castle. It is about 20 minutes north of the airport, away from city center. So totally recommend doing it first and then going into the city so as not to go back and forth.
Malahide Castle was built by the Talbot family in the 12th century. Around 1185. They stayed in that house for 791 years. It survived countless wars, Penal laws, Battle of the Boyne etc. The last person to live in the case was Rose, the sister to the last Baron Talbot. She stayed there until the 1970s when she sold it to the Irish state. She auctioned off many of the pieces of art and furniture to cover previous debts, some of which have been recovered and restored to the house.
It also used to have a moat but can only now see minor remnants. There is also a little church, cemetery, huge grounds and gardens and green houses with hundreds of species of vegetation life.
It was an absolutely amazing adventure filled with history, rain, beauty, and life. (Kind of reminds us of Downtown Abby except way smaller.
Malahide Castle in Ireland
Nature walk in Malahide Demesne Ireland
Castle and the Woods on a nice relaxing Saturday in Malahide Demesne, Ireland.
The castle was closed. I will make a video of the details of the castle after it reopens in the summer =^)
Malahide Castle, parts of which date to the 12th century, lies, with over 260 acres of remaining estate parkland (the Malahide Demesne Regional Park), close to the village of Malahide, nine miles (14 km) north of Dublin in Ireland.
The estate began in 1185, when Richard Talbot, a knight who accompanied Henry II to Ireland in 1174, was granted the lands and harbour of Malahide. The oldest parts of the castle date back to the 12th century and it was home to the Talbot family for 791 years, from 1185 until 1976, the only exception being the period from 1649--1660, when Oliver Cromwell granted it to Miles Corbet after the Cromwellian conquest of Ireland; Corbet was hanged following the demise of Cromwell, and the castle was restored to the Talbots. The building was notably enlarged in the reign of Edward IV, and the towers added in 1765.
The estate survived such losses as the Battle of the Boyne, when fourteen members of the owner's family sat down to breakfast in the Great Hall, and all were dead by evening, and the Penal Laws, even though the family remained Roman Catholic until 1774.In the 1920s the private papers of James Boswell were discovered in the castle, and sold to American collector Ralph H. Isham by Boswell's great-great-grandson Lord Talbot of Malahide. Malahide Castle and Demesne was eventually inherited by the seventh Baron Talbot and on his death in 1973, passed to his sister, Rose. In 1975, Rose sold the castle to the Irish State, partly to fund inheritance taxes. Many of the contents, notably furnishings, of the castle, had been sold in advance, leading to considerable public controversy, but private and governmental parties were able to retrieve some. Rose Talbot, one of the last surviving members of the Talbot family died at Malahide House, Tasmania in 2009. Her closest relatives, who married into the German surname Dietsch, traveled to Canada and the United States of America. Members of the Dietsch family still live in the USA and Canada today.

Ireland 2019 | Dublin || Malahide Castle
On the recommendation of a good friend we decided to head to Malahide Castle to explore the grounds and get our first taste of Ireland touring. Unfortunately at the beginning of the day, our car got a flat tire and we had to call AA to repair it. We then returned the car to the rental company who then replaced it for us.

Malahide Castle & Gardens - Ireland
Malahide Castle is near the town of Malahide. Parts of the estate date back to 1185 to Richard Talbot, a night that was granted the lands during the reign of Henry II. It stayed in the Talbot family from that date until 1976 when Rose Talbot sold the castle to the Irish State.
There is enough to do here that you could literally spend an entire day at the castle, especially if you have kids. The restaurant is fantastic along with the Avoca shopping center.
Kids and parents alike will enjoy the Gardens, Butterfly House, Walled Garden and the Fairy Trail. I would suggest pre-booking in advance as you have to pick your entrance time for the Castle visit. You can spend as much time as you like in the gardens and playgrounds.
