Witham is a town in the county of Essex in the East of England. Witham is part of the District of Braintree and is twinned with the town of Waldbröl, Germany. Witham stands between the city of Chelmsford (8 miles to the south-west) and the town of Colchester (13 miles to the north-east), on the Roman road between the two. The River Brain runs through the town and joins the River Blackwater just outside.
The town is served by Witham railway station, situated on the London Liverpool Street to Ipswich main line operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. Trains take approximately 40-45 minutes to reach Liverpool Street. The station is also the junction for the Braintree branch line to Braintree. Another branch line, now dismantled, went from Witham to Maldon.
Witham is situated on the A12 trunk road between Chelmsford and Colchester, that is to say the Roman road from London to Colchester. Originally the A12 ran in a straight line through the middle of the town; however for some decades there has been a by-pass completely avoiding the town.
Witham has a mainly linear town centre focused around the high street and two shopping precincts to form a cross that bisects the high street – the Newlands Shopping Centre of 1970s design to the north, and the Grove Centre of a 1980s brick design to the south. There are also a range of small shops, restaurants, pubs, major high-street banks and several national commercial chains.
Witham also has a hockey club formed in 1924 and is now made up of 5 men's teams and 3 women's teams. Witham also participates in the local mixed league as well as the men's and women's summer league and indoor league. Witham hockey club play on the astro turf across the road from Maltings Academy on Spinks Lane. The hockey club share a clubhouse with the cricket club which is situated next to the recreation ground, commonly known as the Maldon Road Park, on Maldon Road.
Leisure facilities include Benton Hall Golf and Country Club, a pool club, and a library which occupies the site of what was the town's long-closed cinema, the Whitehall. A 'River Walk' runs for three-and-a-half miles through the town and is home to a range of wildlife. Witham Leisure Centre is located in Spinks Lane, adjacent to the former Bramston Sports Centre.

Maldon is a town on the Blackwater estuary in Essex, England. Maldon is the seat of the Maldon District and starting point of the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. It is most renowned for Maldon Sea Salt which is produced in the area.
Maldon is a town of circa 15000 people on the tidal River Chelmer by the Blackwater Estuary in Essex. It is on the A414 10 miles (16 km) east of Chelmsford, and 49 miles (79 km) north east of Charing Cross, London, using the A13.
Essex is a county built on London clay, overlain with pockets of gravel deposited by riperian action, the lowest land is made up of river alluvium and salt marsh. At Maldon the railway cutting (now a road cutting) provided a reference section for geologists. There are three landslips on the north-facing river cliff of the Blackwater at Maldon. The middle slip is called the West Maldon Landslip, which was caused by repeated rotational slips of the bedrock London Clay, which is trying to reach a stable angle.
Hythe Quay at the confluence of the Chelmer and Blackwater, which flanks the northern edge of the town, was an important port, and Cooks Yard remains significant for Thames barges. The River Blackwater, that was diverted into the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation, re-emerges into the Blackwater Estuary, through locks at the Heybridge Basin, the stream bed passes down Heybridge Creek. and this delinearates the border between Maldon Town and Heybridge Parish Council.
Maldon's first railway link was a branch line to Witham opened in 1846. Later a second line linked Maldon with Woodham Ferrers on the Crouch Valley Line between Southminster and Wickford line. Whilst Wickford is itself on the line between Shenfield and Southend (thus providing Maldon with another route into London Liverpool Street), a short-lived spur line at Wickford also gave direct access towards Southend.
Maldon West railway station was opened in 1889 by the Great Eastern Railway. The line between Maldon and South Woodham Ferrers closed to passengers in 1939, the Maldon and Witham line closed in 1966. The nearest railway stations to Maldon are now Hatfield Peverel, Witham and North Fambridge. Hatfield Peverel is the closest railway station to the north of the town, whilst North Fambridge is closest to southern parts of the town.

Maldon - Essex
Maldon is home to the Thames barges that used to ferry cargo back and forth to the city, and an hour at the lake might catch some tasty Maldon crabs. A trip to Maldon's Promenade Park is ideal for topping up a tan, or to let the kids loose at the Splash Park or to fly the aerial runway next to the adventure galleon.

Justice4Jez Goldhanger/Tolleshunt D'Arcy Sea Wall path
This clip is part of the four and half mile route that the prosecution claimed Jeremy Bamber walked/cycled in the dark on the night of the murders on 7 August 1985. I believe the CPS story is that Jeremy telephoned Essex Police from White House Farm in Tolleshunt D'Arcy, impersonating his father, saying his 'daughter' had gone berserk with one of his guns, then walked/cycled back to his own home in Goldhanger and telephoned Essex Police and told them that his father had called him saying his sister had one of his guns. Oh, and all in less than ten minutes. Well I thinks that's how they tell it. Goldhanger church can be seen in the distance and Joyce's Farm House is around the half way mark between the two locations. The terrain remains virtually the same throughout the route. As can be observed, the path is very narrow with a steep drop either side and though the grass has now been cut along with the harvest - in the first few weeks of August it can grow to over two feet in height and spread across the path, making walking difficult let alone cycling. To view copies of police telephone logs and other documents supporting Jeremy's innocence visit
