National Museum wants NLC to probe Malindi Land grab
Insane Kenyan Coast Sunset | Things To Do In Malindi Kenya
This week we were out and about in Malindi which is a coastal town in Kenya. We visited the Malindi national museum where we saw the culture of the coastal people and the Vasco da Gama pillar.
Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese Explorer that was the first European to reach India. The pillar was built in 1498 as a symbol of appreciation of his welcome by the Sultan of Malindi. It's believed to be the oldest European monument in Africa. The original cross of the pillar was tested and found to be made of Lisbon limestone.
It stands on the rocks at the northern end of casuarina beach.

KENYA'S LOST TREASURES: The Vigango of the Mijikenda
In July, Kenya made history after 30 cultural artifacts known as ‘vigango’ belonging to the Mijikenda community were brought back home marking a milestone in the country’s quest for social and cultural justice.
The vigango which are a symbolic representation of the spirits of the Mijikenda religious leaders -‘Gohu' were stolen over 100 years ago by foreign treasure hunters during the colonial era.
Their return is part of a restitution programme launched by the national museums of Kenya to ensure the country's lost treasures are returned home and handed back to their rightful owners.
Shukri Wachu visited the Gohu and tells us the significance of the vigango to items to the Mijikenda community.

MALINDI EXCURSION PART I
Ever been to Malindi before? It's finally time to show you my Malindi travel vlog. One more item off my bucket list!!
I visited the Falconry of Kenya (Greifvogel park), Vasco da Gama Pillar, House of Columns (part 1 vlog) and Malindi National Museum, Malindi Pier, Marine Villas & Marafa depression/ Hells Kitchen (part 2 vlog). Part 2 will be featured later.
The Falconry of Kenya was epic in all possible ways, well,except for my natural fear of reptiles and birds. But we are here to conquer our fears for the few seconds and get a worthwhile experience.
Our tour guide was very well informed and took us through the tour. We got to see a massive tortoise, a lizard,different snakes,owls (did you know that owls have to stay in pairs and are monogamous?!! They actually bond for life!) .
We also came across some falcons. The guide sits a bird on your arm and on command it flies away and comes back to rest on your arm. How genius is that! Another one of the Falcons gracefully hugs you with one of his outstretched wings for a photoshoot!
We also got some intel on tortoises and crocodiles before the last falcons spot where you get to launch the Falcon. The tour was super amazing as we also got souvenirs!!

MALINDI VLOG PART 2
Just as promised before, here is Part 2 of our previous Malindi tour Vlog!!!
In this section you will see the Malindi National Museum where we got to learn about the Malindi locals culture, social, political and economic life. Did I mention that there were some great changes I noticed from my last visit? A big up to these guys for making it worthwhile.
We were also taken through Kenya's underwater cultural heritage,how to conserve life underwater and how excavations are done.
Last but not least, we got intel on the History of the Mijikenda, their culture, social and economic activities.
We made a short visit to the Malindi Pier, the breeze and view is nothing short of fantastic.
Your girl got hungry decided to stop by Marine Villas for lunch before heading to Marafa Depressions.If you know me well, you know I'm a sunset lover and what better way to end my day than with a sunset view to forget of my exhaustion!
