Siklós, Malkocs bej dzsámi - Mosque of Malkoch Bey, Siklós, Hungary
The Mosque of Malkoch Bey was built at the second half of XVI. century, during the Ottoman occupation. The reconstruction of the mosque is unrivalled in Hungarian building protection. The building won the Europa Nostra prize in 1993. A Malkocs bej által a XVI. század második felében emeltetett dzsámit a török uralom után beépítették egy lakóházba, így szinte eltűnt. Rekonstrukciója azonban olyan jól sikerült, hogy 1993-ban elnyerte az Europa Nostra-díjat. Die wiederhergestellte Moschee des Bey Malkoç erhielt 1993 den Europa-Nostra-Preis.

The temple's history goes back to the 12th century, but this current double tower was erected in the early 18th century. Beautiful architecture in the beautiful setting.

Pécs: Early Christian graves to Ottoman mosques | Hungary #7
The first of two videos of my visit to Pécs. Pécs is one of the most interesting places in Hungary. This area has been inhabited for a long time and the peoples who lived here have left their marks. Pécs was known in Roman times as Sopianae. The plural form of the name suggests that it started out as a cluster of settlements. The first wall around the fortress (now the site of the cathedral and the episcopal palace) was built in the 4th century CE and some significant remains of this era can still be seen today. Pécs developed in the Middle Ages and was then known as Quinque Ecclesiae which means 'Five Churches'. The Ottomans captured Pécs in 1529. Two mosques built during this era survive today and are the prime examples of Turkish architecture in Hungary.
