Mudukuthore (Thirumalakudu Bettahalli) is a pilgrim centre situated on the banks of the river Kaveri. The village is called T. Bettahalli, as per the government revenue documents, whereas Mudukuthore is a mythological name. T. Bettahalli is a quiet village with a backdrop of a hillock called Somagiri. T Bettahalli is located at a distance of 48 km from Mysore, 25 km from Somanathapura, 18 km from T.Narsipur, and is close to Talakad. The place gets its name Mudukuthore from the river Cauvery as it gets a turn and flows forward. Muduku means 'diversion' and thore means 'flow forward'.
. The small Somagiri hill is just 200 ft high, and vehicles can go up half the way. From that point, you have to climb up a 100 steps to reach the Mallikarjuna Temple. Once you reach the top, you see two white Nandhis and then you enter a spacious courtyard with a tall Deepasthamba. The Main Sanctum houses a Shiva Linga, and it is a very important shrine as it is one of the five Panchalinga temples of Talakad. The walls of the temples are decorated with beautiful frescoes depicting scenes from the epics.
Beside the main temple is a shrine dedicated to Bhramarambha Devi.
During Mahabharatha period, Arjuna, one of the Pandavas stayed here on the hill. He carved the idol of Lord Shiva and did pooja with Mallika pushpa (Jasmine). That's the reason the Lord Shiva is called Mallikarjuna.
It is one of the five temples that are part of the Panchalingadarshana held at Talakad once every 12 years. The five temples, Sri Kshethra Vaideshwara, Sri Pathaleshwara, Sri Maruleshwara, Sri Arakeshwara and Sri Mudukuthore Mallikarjuneshwara, are believed to be Panchalingas and thus have become famous.
Sri Mallikarjuna temple, Hirenallur - with Bho Shiva Shambo sung by Susheela Rao
The Sri Mallikarjuna temple, Hirenallur, located about 12 kms from Kadur in Chikmagalur Dist, Karnataka, is one among the many temples that were built during the Hoysala era in the 12th & 13th century. The architectural beauty of the temple is amazing. As the temple was closed at the time of our visit, we were able to shoot only the exteriors of the temple & it's gardens.
I have sung a bhakti geete as a background score for this video dedicated to Lord Shiva - Bho Shambo Shiva Shavmbo...................

Talakadu is a desert-like town on the left bank of the Kaveri river 45 km (28 miles) from Mysore and 133 km (82 miles) from Bangalore in Karnataka, India. It once had over 30 temples, most of which now lay buried in sand. The extant group of temples, where the eastward flowing Kaveri river changes course as the sand on its banks spreads over a wide area, is a popular pilgrimage site for Hindus.
he origin of the town is lost in antiquity; but one tradition is that its name was derived from two Kirāta twin brothers, Tala and Kādu, who, cutting down a tree which they saw wild elephants worshiping, discovered that it contained an image of shiva, and that the elephants were rishis transformed. The tree being miraculously restored, all obtained mōksha and the place was named Tala-kādu, which was translated into Sanskrit as Dala-vana. Two stone images declared to represent the brothers are pointed out in front of the temple Veerabadra swamy. In a later age, Rāma is said to have halted here on his expedition to Lanka.

Hedathale Lakshmikantha Swami temple Mysore tourism Nanjangud tourism Karnataka Tourism
Lakshmikantha Swami temple ,Hedathale, Nanjangud tourism Mysore tourism, Karnataka Tourism, Karnataka temple. This was built in 1182 C E. Hoysala Veera Ballala III got this temple constructed. Lakshmikantha statue is in position of Shama sayanam or Mudra Dharana ( wearing of the symbol) .As per Sri Vaishnava Culture after Sudarshana Homa the Shanka chakra were heated and the Chakra was pressed on the right hand and Shanka on the left hand, causing a permanent mark, after which the person was considered purified. One specialty here is that generally behind Krishna, Venugopala generally is the Adishesha but in this temple Adishesha is not there.
The Lakshmi kantha Swamy temple situated at the center of the village is the centre of tourist activity in this village. This is an ancient temple and is at least 700 years old. It is an exquisite piece of Hoysala architectural marvel and is constructed in the trikootachala style with a triad of shrines around a central atrium. From the vantage point of the central atrium one can simultaneously view the three deities. Lakshmikantha (literally the Lord of Lakshmi) adorns the central sanctum sanctorum. Venugopala and Lakshminarasimha comprise the other two deities of the triad. A beautiful image of Andal adorns a corner of the central atrium. Another enclosure houses the images of Sri Ramanuja, Vedantha Desika and other alwars. Outside the main complex, at the entrance gate are shrines of Ganapathi and the Navagrahas. For most part of the last century, this temple was in a dilapidated state. But towards the turn of the last century, this temple was renovated due to the untiring efforts of Sr Veerendra Hegde, Sri Rangapriya Swami and the financial support of the TVS group. Sri Sri Rangapriya Sri Sri, was a prominent sanyasi in southern India and was instrumental in the revival of the Lakshmikantha swami temple.
The specialty of this place is that when the lights are on the statue looks like a normal statue, but when the lights are switched off , and in the light of the mangala arthi, it appears that the statue eyes looking straight at us, with a smiling face. The other speciality of the Mantapa or Chavadi at this temple is that it is a 16 faced Mantapa consisting of 16 seats. Bhimanna Dandanayaka the palyegara (ruler) got this 16 faced Chavadi (a place of assembly) constructed, because he had 16 daughters and after their marriage.
The king and the queen had a desire to see their daughters frequently, but if they visit their daughters turn by turn, then the administrative requirements of the place would suffer as they were 16 of them. So they would fix a day and invite all of them over. The Kind Queen daughters and the son in laws would all gather here and enjoy the singing concert, a dance programme, or some cultural programme performed at the stage like platform at the center of the Mantapa from morning to evening.
To avoid any confusion as to which one was which son in law they got each pair seated together in numerical order.
Also earlier generations there was a practice, that the Mother in law would not see her son-in –law directly face to face. Keeping that practice in mind the Chavadi was designed such that the King can see all 32 people that is all of his daughters and son in laws but the queen can only see her daughters. The daughters husband sitting next to them are not visible to Queen.
Hedathale is a village in the southern state of Karnataka, India. It is located in the Nanjangud taluk of Mysore district in Karnataka. At the bank a river in rishis (Sage) used to do Homa, Havana and poornahavathi which is done at the end. At that time, somewhere a Rakshasa would come running at and stamp that homa or pour blood over it .This way he would spoil their homa. The rishis when to Koundilya Maharishi and requested him for a solution to their problem. So Koundilya Maharishi does penance to Narayana and when Narayana appears he requests for the Rakshasa to be killed. Narayana Kills the Rakshasa, cuts that Rakshasas head and throws it to the left side. The village his head fell is known as Yedathale which means Yeda (left) thale(head) and in common usage has become Hedathale.

Halthi Mallikarjuna Cave Temple Nagamangala Tourism Mandya Tourism Karnataka Tourism | trek
Halthi ( ಹಾಲತಿ ) Mallikarjuna Cave Temple at Nagamangala, Mandya, Karnataka. Mallikarjuna cave temple is part of Nagamangala tourism, Mandya tourism and Karnataka tourism. Halthi is a small village temple is located above the small hill, after a trek one can reach the Mallikarjuna Cave temple.
The Cave temple is locked usually, so best contact the Pooraji of the Temple who resides in the village before climing the hill. The temple Archakar is Mahadeva his contact number is 9731415517. The Shiva Linga in the cave is a naturally formed Linga, Known as Udbhava Moorthy. Halthi has a rich association with two Mythological figures. One is Parashurama and the other being the Pandavas.
The Village gets the unique name of halthi due to the situation of Parasuramas axe slicing the side of the shiva linga, causing milk to flow down the hill into this area. Thus the name Halthi, which in Kannada refers to Haal as Milk. The place where the milk flowed down from the hill. Further ahead the milk flowed into the next village and formed the cream above the milk this village is known as Kendanahallil. Kene in kannada means the cream of the Milk. It is believed that Parasurama resided on this hill for many years in search of the cure for his curse of Killing his Mother. He had visited 100 shiva lingas and was to see 101 in order to be freed from his curse. During his stay here unable to find any direction, he requests a sage for assistance. The sage tells him to go on top of the hill and call out to shiva. When he does so, he finds a voice responding to his call but is unable to locate it. On closer observation he finds a bee entering a small opening in the hill. Being curious Parasurama starts digging open the hill using his axe. This is how the cave came into existence. Initially he is fully energised and digs a big opening and as he proceeds the opening starts decreasing to the bare minimum place required for a person to crawl and go in. finally his axe slices the side of the Linga causing the Milk to flow down the hill. On Darshana of this Linga, Parashurama is liberated of his curse. From here he heads to Kerala, where he throws his axe, which he had used to kill his Mother.
It is also said that the Pandavas resided at Halthi hill during their Vanavasa. The kalyani or pond on the hill next to the temple has water all through the year and the water is said to be clean and portable even during the worst droughts. This is a sacred pond and is quite deep, do not try to go in and do not pollute this water. There is a gopura on the way up the hill.
Inside the Mallikarjuna cave temple there is a statue of Nandi believed to be carved by Parashurama using his nails. The other two Nandi Statue are later additions by the devotees of the temple. Inside the main cave are two other caves. The cave on the left side ijs believed to lead to Melukote Dhanushkoti and people do go by walk through the left side cave towards Melukotes Dhanushkoti..The cave on the right is said to connect to Shivgange and Siddagange . This cave is guarded by a cobra at all times and hence cannot be accessed. If people come inside the temple with wrong intension then a cobra blocks the way to the exit of the main cave, not permitting the person to leave the temple. Also one more thing to keep in mind is, if people do not come to the hill with pure body and mind Such as if they consume non-veg food before coming to the temple, then there is belief that the bees attack them and does not allow them go further towards the temple.
Inside the cave all through the year Water continuous to fall on Shiva linga from the rocks above.
During rainy season the cave gets filled with water and no one can enter the cave. The worship of Shiva linga is stopped during this time. The water inside the cave increases so much that the water forms a waterfall from flowing from inside the cave, through the door and down the hill. During this time only Gangae pooja is done to the water flowing out of the cave in the form of waterfall.
It is also said that after being liberated from the curse Parashurama ate rice mixed in milk near the temple hence the name Halthi .
On the foothills is the Adichuchanagiri matta branch. They have been providing free service to the devotees by offering free food . Accomodation is also available. One needs to inform the matt beforehand or wait for half an hour to get food.

Talakkad (Talakadu) Panchalinga temples 2
Several temples have been excavated from sand. Folklore suggests that the area was covered by sand following a woman's curse.
