1000 Reach Mang Pirying’s place
1100 ETA summit.
1130 start descent
1300 Back at jump-off. Proceed back to Sto. Tomas.
1330 Lunch at Rose and Grace restaurant, Sto. Tomas (famous for Bulalo)
1500 Cross the highway and wait for bus back to Manila
1700 ETA Manila

this is part of the Galaxy Gala episode fINAL assault... the Manabu Trek where we hiked and camped near the peak of the famous mountaineer haven in Sto.Tomas, Batangas... Manabu Peak... it was such an experience knowing that a wondrous place just near our own exists. This was such a nice Gala even though after the climb I had joint aches and blistered butt caused by one of my descends...

Mt. Manabu is a great choice for like us who wants an easier trail, who enjoys rivers and trees, and who lives nearby Sto. Tomas, Batangas. This is also a famous penitential mountain during holy week where stations are marked using a concrete white cross. Below are our photos at the peak but the weather did not quite favor us so it is 360 degrees view of white clouds.

Civet Coffee

Mt. Manabu is the mountain with free coffee. Thanks to Mang Tino, who happily gives the hikers a free cup of civet coffee. His kubo is one of the station you will see along the way. Civet coffee is a form of Kapeng Barako but the only difference is that this coffee is from the faeces (discharge) of the animal Alamid. It tastes better than the usual kapeng barako because the Alamid will only pick the ripe coffee beans (the red ones) rather than the usual coffee harvested wherein the green ones are included.

NAKAKAPAGOD MAG MAHAL! jk sksksks NAKAKAPAGOD UMAKYAT NANG UMAKYAT! Syempre dahil first time nga, hindi ko maiwasang i-vlog to kasi nga it will be part of my memories.

TRIVIA:
The name of this beautiful mountain is a portmanteau of the Tagalog phrase “Mataas na Bundok,” which means “a mountain that is high.” Mt. Manabu’s name suits it perfectly because the higher parts of the mountain are usually covered in clouds.

This event turned out quite well! Everyone was friendly and cooperative.

Thanks to Manuel for the management of team 2 and extra help from Choy.

Also hands down to our amazing volunteers, who at first, are strangers and now good friends. Shout-out to Kiel, Ritsuko, Butch, Cess, Hiyas, Ryan, Jerome, Jeff Ray, Symon, John, Aileen, Mica, Ervina and Mark. This would be more difficult to accomplish without you guys helping out. Power to you all! :)

After all the handwork, 17 bags/sako(rice sacks) of trash. A total of 58.04kg was brought down from the mountain to the jumpoff!!!

It ended in a high note, joys and laughter from start, till end. :D

APRIL FOOLS DAY HIKE AND I WAS ROASTED OUT OF NOWHERE!!! Nag-ninja moves kami ulit at umakyat ng Mt. Manabu sa Sto. Tomas, Batangas noong nakaraang sabado kasama si Jugs at Jayp. Sumonod kami sa mga naunang Ugnayan Kalikasan members para magdilig sa planting site.

Background:
It’s just two hours to climb, and the peak area is like a beautiful garden. The highest point is marked with a white cross. Grass, as if trimmed by a lawnmower, covers the summit area, and there are flowering plants and shrubs – with blossoms of yellow, red, and pink. During summer months, wild berries called ‘sampinit’ grow on the trails near the peak. They are edible and sweet, like mini-strawberries. This image of an elegant park is exactly the image of Manabu Peak, probably the easiest, most accessible mountain from Manila. Add the beautiful views of the Malipunyo mountain range, as well as Mts. Maculot and Makiling, and it’s picture perfect!
