Matt Peak 2010 Manchester Broad Street Parkade Redevelopment
In 2008 we expanded the Manchester Redevelopment agency to 13 members, and put on some of the most experienced government, real estate and business professional on the commission. We then charged them with coming up with a plan to redevelop this....The Manchester Parkade.
By September 2009 they created a 78 page plan, which you can view at ci.manchester.ct.us (type in Broad Street Redevelopment into the search) The plan calls for bringing in a private developer to demolish these buildings, and to build a new, Green, walkable community with mixed residential, business and civic use.
In November 2009, my Republican Colleagues and I on the Board of Directors approved their plan, and sent to the voters a major part of it...to approve $8million of public money that could be used to build infrastructure, acquire property, complete environmental testing, and create new 'form based zoning' regulations. Most importantly it would give the town a chance to sit at the table with the owners and negotiate solutions.
Despite some strong opposition from some, we put the referendum to the voters and it passed—with 57%. This is a major step forward.
When the town redevelops this property with the help of a private developer, it will be because of this plan.
These are the kinds of problems I've worked on in Manchester, and I ready to take on Connecticuts problems as your state representative.
